Texas A&M lands massive commitment from 2026 5-star CB over Oregon

Texas A&M's recruiting success is only shocking to those who haven't been paying attention, as coach Mike Elko and his staff have landed three priority 2026 prospects over the past five days, led by elite four-star running back KJ Edwards on Tuesday night, securing a victory over the Texas Longhorns. Again, Elko has built a highly respectable culture in College Station that directly led to three of the program's early 2026 commits, including four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory and four-star running back Jonathan Hatton, who have shut down their future visits and are set to sign with Texas A&M during the early signing period. Relationships built on trust both on and off the field are everything in today's college football landscape, and the Aggies have become the best example of how to recruit from the ground up. Advertisement On Thursday morning, Mike Elko landed his 18th commitment in the 2026 cycle, as five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington chose the Aggies over Oregon with his family in front of his high school peers at Mount Miguel HS (CA), as his collegiate future will now start, and likely end in College Station as one of Texas A&M's future star defensive backs. Arrington is one of the fastest and most versatile athletes in the cycle, finishing his 2024 junior season with 26 tackles, three pass breakups, and an interception while reeling in 57 receptions for 527 yards and five touchdowns on offense. While he can play wide receiver, his ability to blanket receivers in press-man coverage and his elite speed to beat top receivers along the boundary will make him a future NFL prospect during his third season with the program. According to On3, Arrington is currently the 9th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 1-ranked athlete, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in California. Elite 2026 4-star running back commits to Texas A&M over Texas

Texas A&M's recruiting success under coach Mike Elko has been nothing short of spectacular after landing three 2026 prospects since hosting 15 last weekend. Starting with three-star star quarterback/athlete Kaeden Johnson on Saturday night, four-star offensive lineman Samuel Rosebourogh followed suit on Monday night, and on Tuesday afternoon, four-star running back KJ Edwards rounded things with his pledge. During his 2024 junior season, Edwards ran for 1,789 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground, paired with 383 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air. Advertisement Edwards is one of the top backs in the country, and by far one of the fastest athletes at any position, possessing track speed and elite footwork, which has aided in breaking leg tackles, while his upfield burst spells game over for defenders in pursuit. After landing four-star back Jonathan Hatton early in the offseason, it was rumored that Elko and running back coach Trooper Taylor were looking to make another splash in the running back room. What's even more impressive is that Texas A&M was one of the last programs to schedule an official visit with Edwards, as Alabama and LSU had already hosted the elite back, while Texas was scheduled to host the Carthage (TX) native this weekend before he canceled the trip. Just like Roseborough, Elko and his staff have beaten out the Texas Longhorns for another priority prospect, and it's fair to say that Edwards is one of the highest-ranked prospects on their proverbial big board. With two running back commits in the cycle, Hatton and Edwards represent the future backfield once Le'Veon Moss and Rueben Owens eventually depart, paired with incoming freshmen Deondrae "Tiger" Riden and Jamarion Morrow. Like several of Texas A&M's 2026 commits, Edwards has immediate NFL potential and could become a future superstar in OC Collin Klein's scheme. According to 247Sports Composite, Edwards is currently positioned as the 42nd-ranked prospect in the class, the 3rd-ranked running back, and 7the th-ranked prospect in Texas. Aggie fans and media react to Texas A&M earning commit from top 50 player KJ Edwards

The month of June has been extremely generous to the Texas A&M football program. It's the time of year when college football programs ramp up recruiting efforts to lock in top prospects before the 2025 season. In the past two weeks, the Aggies have secured six commitments. One of the biggest wins so far is four-star running back KJ Edwards. He's ranked as a top-50 player nationally, the No. 2 RB and the No. 5 overall prospect in Texas, per 247Sports. His addition makes A&M's running back room one of the deepest and most dynamic heading into next season. Advertisement Edwards, a two-sport athlete, ran a sub-11-second 100-meter dash as a sophomore — bringing a much-needed burst of speed to the offense. He announced his commitment on social media and explained to On3's Steve Wiltfong what drew him to Texas A&M: 'Just the overall genuine vibes the staff show to me and my family every time we step foot into Aggieland, we know we're going to enjoy our day every single time. And the coaches just proving and showing how serious they are about me and letting me know I'm a game-changer and that's what they need to win championships.' 2026 5-star Edge will take official visit to Texas A&M This weekend

Texas A&M's recruiting success over the last two weeks is only surprising to those not paying attention. Since Saturday night, coach Mike Elko has landed four commitments, starting with three-star athlete Kaeden Johnson, followed by four-star OT Samuel Roseborough, four-star running back KJ Edwards, and on Thursday afternoon, five-star athlete/cornerback Brandon Arrington chose the Aggies over Oregon. Landing Edwards and Arrington was not expected over a month ago, but Elko and his staff, especially running back coach Trooper Taylor and defensive back coaches Ishmael Aristide and Jordan Peterson, have proven their elite recruiting chops. This is just the start of what's to come this month, as Elko stated that more commits are on the horizon, while another priority prospect has just set his official visit with the program. Advertisement According to GigEm247's Andrew Hattersley, 2026 five-star edge rusher Tristian Givens, who will announce his commitment on Monday, will take his Texas A&M official visit this weekend before making his decision. Givens is a slight favorite to land with the Aggies, which could be solidified after his OV. Ahead of his visit, Givens spoke with Hattersley about his close connection with College Station, and why the coaching staff, specifically his comfort level, and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer's plan for him, if he chose the Aggies. "(I like) just how they're going to play me off the edge and stuff and be able to drop me in curls, hooks and all the stuff like that," Givens stated. However, after official visits to Tennessee and Washington, Givens is reportedly "up in the air" regarding his decision. While the Aggies have a leg up as his final host this summer, nothing is set in stone. "Just whichever one, I feel the most comfortable going to and my mom feels comfortable with me going to," Givens stated. According to 247Sports, Givens is the 23rd-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 3rd-ranked edge, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Georgia. Texas A&M Football in Mix for Top Class of 2026 Running Back KJ Edwards

Texas A&M Football in Mix for Top Class of 2026 Running Back KJ Edwards originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas A&M Aggies have a Top 10 recruiting class lined up already for 2026, and they're in the hunt to add another massive piece this summer. Advertisement Head Coach Mike Elko and his staff have their sights on Carthage (Texas) product KJ Edwards, who is among the nation's Top 50 players in the Class of 2026. Edwards is also ranked the seventh-best player in the state of Texas and the third-best running back nationally in his recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Texas A&M Head Coach Mike Elko holds his headset on the sideline during one of the Aggies' games. Maria Lysaker-Imagn Images. Edwards is a highly sought-after prospect, and it appears he's coming close to making his decision on which program he wants to suit up for collegiately -- and Texas A&M fans will be excited to hear that the Aggies are still in the running for the stud tailback. According to Justin Wells, who works for On3's Inside Texas, Edwards will be making his decision on August 2, and the three programs listed as "in the mix" are the LSU Tigers, Texas Longhorns, and Texas A&M Aggies. Wells posted the news alongside footage of the Carthage, Texas native putting his elite speed on showcase and hauling in a deep pass with the ease of a wide receiver. "We call him lightning. He's very physical," Carthage head coach Scott Surratt told Times Record News. "He does a great job in the passing game. He's a third-down back just for protection and stuff. And he is durable. He's just a great player.' Advertisement As a junior, Edwards rushed for 1,789 yards and 23 touchdowns while averaging 12.6 yards per carry. He also became a dynamic target in the team's passing game, adding 30 receptions for 383 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran a 10.99 second 100-meter dash during his sophomore season of track and field. 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks' latest evaluation of Edwards pegs him as one of the top running backs in the nation, saying that he "plays at a different speed" in pads and that he "displays impressive ball skills and body control as a pass catcher." "Frequent big-play threat. Excels as a cut-and-go slasher with agility in the hole to make a man miss and hit the second level unencumbered," Brooks also wrote. "Slippery strong with a low center of gravity that fosters positive pad level. Not stylistically an open-field move-stringer, but capable of stacking cuts and gaining yards after contact."
