Coimbatore rural police form three special teams to nab gang

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore rural police have formed three special teams to nab a gang that robbed a man of Rs 30 lakh on Saturday morning. KG Chavadi police said K Jayan, 50, of Wadakkanchery in Thrissur district of Kerala had been running a gold ornaments polish shop at RS Puram in Coimbatore city. As he faced severe losses, Jayan closed his business and started working at a gold smithery unit in Thrissur. He had developed a good rapport with a gold businessman at RS Puram while running the gold polish shop. The businessman often gave large amounts of money to Jayan to buy auction gold ornaments from Kerala. On Saturday, Jayan was given Rs 30 lakh by a businessman to procure auction gold ornaments. He kept Rs 20 lakh in a specially designed jacket and the remaining Rs 10 lakh in a bag. He was heading towards Kerala from Coimbatore city on a motorcycle. Around 7.45am, while travelling on the flyover at Ettimadai Pirivu, a multipurpose vehicle intercepted his motorcycle, and three people dragged him off his vehicle. They tore his specially modified jacket and took away Rs 20 lakh in cash. They took the remaining Rs 10 lakh from his motorcycle. The gang then dropped him about one km away from the area. "Jayan did not inform us immediately. He managed to reach Coimbatore city and discussed the matter with the businessman. Later that evening, he approached the KG Chavadi police and lodged a complaint. If he had informed us immediately, we would have had a chance to capture the four-member gang," said superintendent of police Dr K Karthikeyan.
