GCC's low-cost co-working, learning hub finds takers among students, techies

Chennai: In Kolathur, a community learning hub is evolving into Chennai's most sought-after co-working and co-learning space. Mudhalvar Padaippagam, a government-run facility, charges just 5 for a 3.5-hour study slot—prompting students to book seats months in advance. Comprising desks with charging points, curated reference materials, as well as strict rules regarding decorum, the centre now sees hundreds of aspirants spend up to 10 hours a day here, preparing for competitive exams. "We were spending 5,000 a day at co-working spaces just for a conference room," said Surya S, co-founder of a startup. "Now we pay 2,500 a month here."
