Tina Knowles Cut Her Hair To Save Beyoncé's 1st Destiny's Child Video
Source: KMazur / Getty Tina Knowles has always been more than just a mom. She's been a stylist, a creative force, and a fierce protector of her daughters' dreams. In her new memoir Matriarch , Tina recounts a now-legendary story from the early days of Destiny's Child that shows just how far she was willing to go for Beyoncé's big moment. Read more inside. People reports that in 1997, a 16-year-old Beyoncé and her groupmates—Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett—were filming their very first music video for 'No, No, No (Part 2)' featuring Wyclef Jean. The stakes were high. Tina, who styled the girls' hair for the video, recalled the moment everything almost went off the rails: she had forgotten to bring enough platinum-blonde streaks for Beyoncé's highlights. 'She wanted her first ever highlights,' Tina writes in Matriarch , 'and I had planned to glue in fake platinum blond pieces to match the ones in my own hair.' But when she realized she didn't have enough, and saw the frustration on her daughter's face, Tina knew she had to improvise—fast. Without missing a beat, she looked in the mirror, grabbed a pair of scissors, and began snipping strands from her own hair. 'Just enough here and there to glue into my daughter's hair without leaving me bald-headed,' she wrote. Her quick thinking saved the look and showcased her unwavering commitment to her daughter's success and happiness. The shoot wasn't without tension. Tina also recounted the initial frostiness from makeup artists Chris Maldonado and Eric Ferrell, who had been misled about who would be handling hair that day. But once they realized Tina was Beyoncé's mom, the ice broke and lasting friendships were formed. The resulting video for 'No, No, No (Part 2)' became a major breakthrough, climbing to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the R&B charts. But behind the scenes, it was a mother's dedication—and a few strands of her own hair—that helped Destiny's Child shine. Tina's memoir Matriarch is out now, offering more behind-the-scenes moments from her life as the powerhouse matriarch of one of music's most iconic families. Would you cut your own hair for your daughter? Comment thoughts below. Naturally, Foley has a bevy of classic matches that fans can argue are his best. However, Foley himself believes the answer is simple. Mick Foley prepares to slam Randy Orton during WrestleMania XX Mick Foley prepares to slam Randy Orton during WrestleMania XX KMazur/WireImage/Getty Images In an interview with Denise Salcedo at Comic Con Revolution, Foley revealed that his favorite match of all time wasn't against The Rock, Triple H, or even The Undertaker. Instead, it was against a then fairly fresh Randy Orton who was just establishing himself as "The Legend Killer." "It was my favorite match of all time," Foley said. "I remember dropping that elbow on Randy and thinking it was the most perfect elbow I'd ever dropped. I also remember the feeling like he was growing in front of people's eyes. "You know, people are getting to see a different side of Randy Orton. They really embraced it. I think it was a really good match for both of us. " More Pro Wrestling: Former WWE Star Joins AEW It seems that the feeling is mutual. In an episode of Stone Cold Steve Austin's Broken Skull Sessions (per Gisberto Guzzo and Jeremy Lambert of Fightful), Orton thanked Foley as well as pro wrestling legend Harley Race for establishing the "Legend Killer" persona. "Mick Foley had everything to do with it [the Legend Killer]," Orton said. "The idea itself, I'm not sure, but Foley made me. Talking about coming around, he let me spit in his face. Harley Race too (let me spit in his face). "I knew he [Race] was going to take a swing at me and I knew I'd better get out of the way, I don't care what age the man was, I did not want to get knocked out on live television doing this with him. But old school, it goes back. Loved my dad. "That goes to that -- a lot of these guys that were like this [tight] with my man. That respect was there. I'm Cowboy Bob's son, they loved him. 'Your Bob's kid? Let's go. I'm going to do what I can.' "So here, just like Mark, just like Taker with the hip tosses and the arms drags and yadda yadda yadda here's Harley race. That was huge for me man. Same with Mick." Janet Jackson Is Back On The Charts With One Of Her Biggest Hits
Janet Jackson's 'Someone To Call My Lover' reenters the U.K. Dance Singles chart at No. 31, 24 years ... More after its debut, driven by TikTok virality. (Photo by KMazur/WireImage) Janet Jackson is back on the charts again, and it's not because she dropped a brand new single. Instead, one of her classics is a win once more as a new generation of listeners discovers the track via TikTok, while longtime lovers of the singer's work return to the tune. The cut, which dates back more than two decades, has become a viral favorite, and that momentum is now translating into sales and streams. 'Someone To Call My Lover' is back on the Official Dance Singles chart in the U.K. The track reappears at No. 31 on the list of the top-performing tunes in the genre across the Atlantic. After spending decades out of the spotlight, the cut is suddenly racking up sales and streams, thanks almost entirely to attention it's currently receiving on TikTok. Despite being released more than 20 years ago, 'Someone To Call My Lover' has now appeared on the Official Dance Singles chart in just two frames. In a strange twist of fate, both of those weeks saw the tune land in the exact same spot: No. 31. The first time the song hit the U.K. ranking was back in August 2001. It debuted at No. 31 and then vanished, never to return, until now. The fact that it's found its way back to the same position, two decades later, is a wild bit of coincidence. Originally released in the summer of 2001, 'Someone To Call My Lover' served as the second single from Jackson's album All for You. The tune samples America's 'Ventura Highway' and features a breezy, radio-friendly sound that helped it become one of the standout tracks from that era of her career. In the U.S., 'Someone To Call My Lover' peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100, giving Jackson yet another top 10 smash. It also performed well internationally, though it was a more moderate hit in the U.K., where it didn't climb as high as some of her earlier efforts, as it rose to No. 11 on the main list of the most-consumed songs in the nation. While Jackson remains a touring bestseller and of course, an icon, she's been fairly quiet when it comes to releasing new music. Her last proper single, 'Made For Now,' arrived back in 2018. That cut, a collaboration with Daddy Yankee, peaked at No. 88 on the Hot 100, and it didn't make much of an impact in the U.K. The singer's last full-length project, Unbreakable, came out in 2015. That album peaked at No. 11 in the U.K. but was a major win in the U.S., where it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
