Students told to oppose ragging & drug abuse
Patna: Leading institutions of higher education in the state marked Anti-Ragging Day on Tuesday in compliance with
University Grants Commission
(UGC) directives, aiming to curb campus ragging and raise awareness of its harmful effects.
Most will continue related activities till Aug 18 as part of 'Anti-Ragging Week'.
At the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), vice-chancellor K N Singh, addressing over 300 new students, called on them to "raise their voice against any sort of ragging on the campus." He praised the anti-ragging committee for keeping the campus both ragging and drug-free, stressing that ragging is a "criminal offence" and a "highly sensitive and serious issue" to which the university has "zero tolerance."
He also administered an anti-ragging and anti-drug pledge.
Gaya's sub-divisional police officer Sushant Kumar Chanchal, the chief guest, outlined legal provisions and punishments under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, urging students to focus on studies rather than "wasting time and energy in ragging and drug addiction."
Patna University's philosophy department held an orientation programme at Darbhanga House, where department head Ameeta Jaiswal briefed students and faculty on UGC regulations and preventive measures.
