Chikkamagaluru: With the local bodies' elections likely to be announced soon, Congress is preparing to take on the opposition. Congress has launched a campaign 'Sarakarada Nade Karyakartara Kade'. Party has organised the party workers' meet at four assembly segments. District in-charge minister KJ George and other frontline leaders addressed the party workers in Kadur and Mudigere on Tuesday. Earlier, the event was hosted at Chikkamagaluru and Tarikere. The party, under the leadership of District Congress Committee president KP Amshumanth, managed to win all the five assembly segments in 2024. The district was considered a BJP stronghold for several years. Now, the party is eyeing local bodies and making all efforts to prepare the workers. George called on party workers to work for the party without any expectation. "Being a common party worker, I never expected anything from the party. Our ancestors sacrificed their lives for independence. Gandhi's non-violence helped get independence, and we have to follow it," he urged. BJP is misusing religion for political gains. All religions have their own significance, and no religion spreads hatred. BJP leaders have forgotten that Congress has Hindu leaders and workers, he criticised. Congress is by its workers and not leaders. BJP has no issues against Congress, and the saffron party would create issues to taint the image of Congress, he blamed. He called for a revision of the voters' list to be taken with utmost care, and regular discussion is needed in this regard. He expressed confidence in workers in delivering their duty. "We need to strengthen the Congress party to ensure people of the state lead a peaceful life," he said. MLA Nayana Motamma, AICC general secretary BM Sandeep, and others were present.
