Kidnapping hoaxer Sherri Papini back in court for child visitation battle with ex-husband

The California mother who pleaded guilty in 2022 to charges related to faking her own kidnapping six years prior is back in court, this time fighting her ex-husband for visitation rights with their two children. "For eight years our family has been followed, stalked, harassed and bullied by the media," Sherri Papini said in a court filing for a Friday visitation hearing according to KRCR. "I have done my best to stay private to focus on my children and healing from the events that transpired. For many years after my arrest, I was the primary caregiver of our children before serving my time in prison. My children have always been my primary focus." Papini wants to be able to see the children again after an eight-year saga that has garnered international press attention and was even the subject of a Hulu documentary. Her ex-husband, Keith Papini, is fighting to shelter the pair's children from their mother. Attorneys for both sides pleaded their case in front of Judge Kathryn J. Barton of the Shasta County Superior Court. Sherri Papini Is in Court Today — and She Doesn't Want Ex to Show Children the Hulu Docuseries About Her Crimes

Sherri Papini appeared in a California courtroom on Friday, March 21, regarding the child custody case with her ex-husband, less than two months after a Hulu docuseries made its network TV premiere documenting her 2016 fake kidnapping plot. Papini is infamous for her 2016 hoax, where she claimed she'd been kidnapped by two Hispanic women after she went on a jog from her Redding, Calif., home on Nov. 2, 2016. She returned home less than a month later, with bruises all over her body. After being exposed for her elaborate hoax — which involved self-inflicted bruises and branding on her skin — Papini was sentenced to 18 months in prison in September 2022. Months before her sentencing, her husband Keith Papini divorced her and was eventually awarded full custody of their two children. In a family court declaration, he said her disappearance caused "heartbreaking" trauma for the children. Keith has said he was unaware of Sherri's scheme, and had even sought help from a hostage negotiator during her purported disappearance. Now, Papini alleges Keith is "reopening old wounds," to the detriment of their children, KRCR reported, citing unspecified court filings. Her comment was seemingly in reference to his appearance in the 2024 Hulu docuseries: The Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini. She accused Keith of "revisiting the past and reopening old wounds rather than focusing on moving forward — at the expense of our children," per the filing. She has also asked a judge to block Keith from letting the children watch the series, according to the filing. "For eight years, our family has been followed, stalked, harassed, and bullied by the media. I have done my best to stay private to focus on my children and healing from the events that transpired," she wrote in the filing, cited by KRCR. "For many years after my arrest, I was the primary caregiver of our children before serving my time in prison. My children have always been my primary focus," she added.A court official confirms to PEOPLE that Sherri appeared in a Shasta County court on issues regarding child custody visitation and attorney fees on Friday. The official said the hearing is expected to be long and could last through the end of the day. The law firm representing Sherri did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for further information. Read the original article on People

Man Says He Saw 'Fist Imprint' on Baby During FaceTime Call. Now Mom Is Charged with Child Abuse

A 22-year-old California woman was arrested Sunday and charged with child abuse after a friend allegedly saw a 'fist imprint' on her 11-month-old child's face. Isaiah Polk told KRCR that he called 911 after having a FaceTime call with his friend Aleesha Ann Allen, during which he allegedly noticed bruises on the face of the woman's child. Sheriff's deputies arrived at Allen's Shasta Lake home around 11:15 am to conduct a welfare check on the 11-month-old, per a statement from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. When law enforcement arrived at the home, Allen was in the process of putting the baby into a vehicle. Then, deputies 'observed the juvenile and noticed facial injuries that appeared to be deliberately inflicted and consistent with child abuse,' the statement reads. Like there was a fist imprint." Allen was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of child abuse with possible great bodily injury/death. She's been released on her own recognizance and is now prohibited from consuming any alcohol or contacting the alleged victim, per the Shasta County District Attorney's Office. She's also subject to GPS monitoring. Allen's next scheduled court date is April 8, 2025. After being examined at a local hospital, the child is being cared for by family members.
