Buses barred from Kanchi town limits for car festival
Chennai: Kancheepuram police have restricted the entry of buses into the town limits on Saturday in view of the
Varadaraja Perumal Temple
car festival, as part of the ongoing annual
Brahmotsavam festival
.
To manage the expected influx of devotees, five temporary bus terminals were set up at key entry points around the town.
These terminals are located at the New Railway Station, Oli Mohammedpettai junction, Old Railway Station, Orikkai junction, and Collector Office junction, an official release said.
Authorities estimate that over two lakh pilgrims from across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states will participate in Saturday's chariot procession. Passengers travelling to Kancheepuram are advised to alight at the designated terminals and proceed to the temple on foot or via alternative transport arrangements.
Detailing the security measures, Kancheepuram district superintendent of police K Shanmugham said that around 1,000 police personnel, local task force members, and volunteers will be deployed for crowd management and public safety. He also urged devotees to remain vigilant and safeguard their valuables.
The temple is expected to see a surge of visitors from Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, and other parts of South India. TNN
