Baghbari to be turned into agri market hub, says DM

1 2 Bhagalpur: The Bhagalpur district administration has drawn up a redevelopment plan to transform the defunct Baghbari premises at Aliganj, in the southern part of the city, into a modern Krishi Utpadan Bazar Samiti (KUBS). The initiative is aimed at streamlining agricultural marketing, ensuring fair trade practices and boosting the district's farming sector. On Monday, district magistrate Nawal Kishor Choudhary, along with officials from the agriculture department, building and bridge construction department and other district authorities, inspected the site and reviewed structural plans and modalities for the redevelopment. Choudhary said the project would be executed in phases. "The Baghbari premises at Aliganj will soon be redeveloped into a contemporary KUBS. In the first phase, Rs 89 crore will be spent on building access roads, warehouses for storing grains, vegetables, fruits, spices and other perishables," he said. The DM said the KUBS would not only support fair trade and timely market information but also help implement govt schemes and strengthen farmer cooperatives. A structural diagram has already been prepared and officials have been asked to initiate work to benefit the farming community.
