Steelers Corner Cory Trice Jr. Taking Strides at OTAs
Steelers Corner Cory Trice Jr. Taking Strides at OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers have benefited from first-round picks on the offensive line and veteran stalwarts on the defensive line. At cornerback, though, the Steelers have relied largely on unproven talents at corner. Advertisement Second-round corner Joey Porter Jr. has been penciled in atop the depth chart. Behind him, Pittsburgh is searching for answers. It signed Super Bowl champion Darius Slay early in free agency and added fringe starter Brandin Echols. In the slot, Beanie Bishop Jr. will hope to entrench himself as a starter after flashing as a rookie. One wild card in the secondary is developmental corner Cory Trice Jr., who, according to Mark Kaboly, is taking strides at the Steelers' organized team activities (OTAs). "You know who I wanna bring up is Cory Trice, too. He's a guy that if he can just stay healthy, I think has a very legit opportunity to be that DB two next year," Kaboly said. "He could be the long-term answer next to Joey Porter. My goodness does he just look the part. He's looking faster, quicker, he's looking more comfortable. But the injuries just tend to pile up on the guy. If he stays healthy, he has a chance to be a guy that not only helps this team out this year, but long-term in the future." Trice, a 2023 seventh-round pick, saw his hype cut short by a torn ACL in his rookie season. He made his debut in 2024, playing in six games while logging an interception and two passes defended. Advertisement Trice played well in his limited action a season ago, but the small sample size wasn't enough to lock in a starting role. He'll have to play himself into Pittsburgh's plans this summer, and it seems like it is going well thus far. To his credit, Trice's upside lends itself to multiple chances. At 6-3, 206 with adequate speed and impressive explosiveness metrics, Trice is a playmaker who may be on the verge of earning a starting job. He'd have to leapfrog Slay, barring injury, so Kaboly's expectations are measured. But if Pittsburgh needs reinforcement on the boundary, expecting Trice to be more than a replacement-level player seems increasingly reasonable. Kaboly: 'Steelers could sign Aaron Rodgers on Friday, over the weekend'
The Aaron Rodgers waiting game may soon be coming to an end — at least, that's what longtime sportswriter and insider Mark Kaboly believes. The Rodgers-to-Pittsburgh train was seemingly derailed by Tom Pelissero's report that the four-time MVP didn't 'affirmatively' tell the Steelers he'd sign with them. However, Kaboly — who also serves as the Steelers correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show — believes a signing could happen as soon as the end of the week. Advertisement Here's when Kaboly believes Rodgers will sign, courtesy of his podcast: 'I still think he signs in the next couple of days. Friday or over the weekend — be there by Monday or Tuesday. Depends on when [the news] is broken. I still think that's the plan.' Kaboly's timeline is clearly tied to the Steelers' mandatory minicamp, which kicks off on June 10 — and Rodgers should have ample time to potentially build chemistry with his new teammates. Rumor: Steelers offered Watt new deal — but not Myles Garrett money
Rumor: Steelers offered Watt new deal — but not Myles Garrett money T.J. Watt's contract dilemma just took another unexpected turn, as longtime sportswriter Mark Kaboly reported that the belief is the Steelers have presented a contract offer to Watt — just not one that he'd sign. Kaboly recently explained on his podcast with co-host Chris Mack what he believes the holdup might be: "I'm under the belief that there is a contract offer on the table right now — which is pretty significant. However, it's probably not what [Watt] thinks it is." Mack clarified that the deal isn't "Garrett money," to which Kaboly responded: "Yes. I'm not one hundred percent sure on that, but it's not like they're offering him, you know, $15 million and 'Hey, you're playing for the Steelers, so take it right now.' There is an offer on the table." It was previously rumored that Watt was seeking to surpass Garrett's $123.5 million in guaranteed money. This is no easy feat to accomplish, as the Browns edge rusher more than reset the market — he practically destroyed it. Report: George Pickens' Steelers tenure was worse 'behind closed doors' than most thought
Report: George Pickens' Steelers tenure was worse 'behind closed doors' than most thought George Pickens is now a Dallas Cowboy — and while Steelers fans may have regretted the lack of a succession plan following the trade, longtime sportswriter and Steelers correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show, Mark Kaboly, argued it could be for the best. Kaboly made an appearance on 93.7 The Fan's livestream and cleared up what truly happened between Pickens and the Steelers: "I got a sense that it was a little bit more uglier than you thought — behind closed doors." Kaboly concluded with some frightening food-for-thought regarding Pickens' immaturity that had been in the spotlight — versus what went unseen: "If you're hearing [Pickens' antics] that people are saying, imagine the stuff that you're not hearing. I think there's a lot of stuff that we still don't know. After all this went through, saying 'Oh geez, if you would've known this, [the trade] would have made a ton of sense.'" Ultimately, we may never truly know what the Steelers organization went through with Pickens behind closed doors. If it was as bad as Kaboly speculated, perhaps there was no way Pittsburgh could have fathomed franchise tagging and trading him after the 2025 season — when giving him away for pennies to the Cowboys got him out of the Steel City the fastest.
