Chelsea unveil their new away kit for 2025-26 season and will debut it in Club World Cup - as they bizarrely pay tribute to HUNGARY in strip

Chelsea have revealed their new away kit for the 2025-26 season. A standard shirt for an adult weighs in at £84.99. The Blues will give their new strips their first outings at the Club World Cup in the United States, where they will face LAFC, Flamengo, and ES Tunis in the group stages. Surprisingly, the story of Chelsea's away kit is rooted in 1950s Hungary. Former Chelsea manager Dave Sexton - who won the FA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup in the early 1970s - loved the 'Magnificent Magyars' Hungarian team of the '50s so much that he introduced a red, white and green kit in tribute to the nation's colours. Now, Chelsea have paid tribute to that old jersey by adding green and red lines down the centre of their white away shirt. Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, and Kadeisha Buchanan modelled the gear in the Saatchi Gallery in London. Their blue home kit went on sale a few weeks ago.

How Chelsea can (finally) beat Barcelona

When the final whistle blew to signal Barcelona's Women's Champions League semi-final victory at Stamford Bridge last year, then Chelsea manager Emma Hayes mouthed the words: 'I feel robbed.' Hayes's side had been beaten by the Catalans at the same stage in the previous campaign and still harboured memories of their 4-0 defeat against the same opponents in the 2021 final. After Chelsea produced an excellent performance away from home to beat Barcelona 1-0 in the first leg, it had looked as though they would finally overcome their footballing kryptonite. But beating Barcelona over two legs is one of the hardest tasks in the game, as Chelsea know all too well. As soon as they saw Kadeisha Buchanan controversially sent off in the second half, with the score level on aggregate, they stood little chance. Hayes described it as 'the worst decision in the history of the Uefa Women's Champions League '. Quite possibly. Fine margins it may have been, but there was no denying the Catalans were the better team and deserved to progress. A year on and Chelsea face the same challenge but with a new manager in the dugout. Sonia Bompastor has experience of beating Barcelona. Her Lyon team thrashed them 3-1 in the 2022 final, which saw Bompastor become the first woman to win the Champions League as a player and manager. But Barcelona came out on top when the two teams met in last season's final. They also have a different manager to the one who went up against Hayes last season. After winning a historic quadruple last season, Jonatan Giráldez left the club to become manager of United States side Washington Spirit and was replaced by his assistant, Pere Romeu. He is still proving himself but, like Bompastor, has already won a trophy in his first season. Chelsea can perhaps take some comfort from the fact Barcelona have not been as perfect this season as they have in previous years. Barcelona have lost as many domestic games this season as in their five previous campaigns combined. The problem is that in three of those seasons they went unbeaten and in the other two they lost only once. However, the two defeats they have suffered, against Levante and Real Madrid, show there are weaknesses to exploit. They were also beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in their first Champions League group game last October. So how can Chelsea end Barcelona's hopes of a third straight European title? Target Paredes If Chelsea are looking for an area to target Barcelona, they should start with their defence. They will likely dominate possession but captain Irene Paredes is not blessed with pace and Mayra Ramirez may fancy her chances of causing her problems. Pressing goalkeeper Cata Coll can also reap dividends, as Sevilla's Fatou Kanter proved recently. 🚨 Fatou Kanteh doesn't give up the chase, as she tackles Cata Coll to give Sevilla half-time hope. Watch live for free on DAZN ▶️ #LigaF — DAZN Women's Football (@DAZNWFootball) April 16, 2025 In terms of Chelsea's own defence, starting Sandy Baltimore ahead of Niamh Charles is key. Charles can be exposed at left-back, as she was when playing for England against Belgium recently, but France international Baltimore has been one of Chelsea's best players at the back this season as well as contributing in attack. Close down Bonmati Chelsea will also have to disrupt Barcelona's possession game. If they allow Aitana Bonmati to dictate play she will punish them. Bonmati accused Chelsea of employing 'dirty' tactics in the first leg last season. The likes of Erin Cuthbert and Wieke Kaptein will need to break up Barcelona's midfield and the dark arts that seemed to get their opponents' backs up could be key once again. Tap into insider knowledge It is not just Bonmati who can hurt Chelsea. Alexia Putellas is enjoying a fine season and looks back to her best, while Caroline Graham Hansen is always a threat. Then there is 18-year-old Vicky López and the pacy Salma Paralluelo. It will not be easy for Chelsea to contain Barcelona but they at least have two players who should know their game plans inside out. Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona this season, will be key to their preparation. Walsh, in particular, should have great insight, having left the club only in January. Be clinical Hayes's assertion that you have to play a perfect game against Barcelona is not wrong. Chelsea will not have as much of the ball as they usually do and scoring chances may be limited. When they come, Chelsea must be clinical. One criticism of Ramirez is that she has sometimes been wasteful in front of goal. But, on her day, the forward can be unstoppable. The absence of Lauren James, who is an injury doubt for both legs, is a blow. This would also have been a perfect game to have Sam Kerr available but the Australia striker is not close to a comeback. The return of Guro Reiten is a boost, while Aggie Beever-Jones is also on a good run of form, scoring the late winner against Liverpool in their FA Cup semi-final. Aggie Beever-Jones with the stoppage-time winner to send Chelsea to the FA Cup final! 💙 #BBCFootball — Match of the Day (@BBCMOTD) April 12, 2025 Draw on new-found belief Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in the first leg of their quarter-final tie but overturned that deficit with three first-half goals in the second leg. It showed they have the ability to respond to setbacks. That may be crucial if the first leg in Barcelona does not go their way. While the prospect of beating Barcelona over two legs remains one of the toughest challenges, there appears to be a belief in the Chelsea squad that this can finally be their year. 'We are a new team, we are on a new journey, we are in a new era,' captain Millie Bright said after they booked their place in the semi-final. 'Bring it on.'
