Casey hoping to make mark in Carabao Cup against Crawley

Swansea City will look to get their season up and running on Tuesday night when they host League Two Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup (19:00 BST). Alan Sheehan's Swans began their Championship campaign on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat away to a Middlesbrough side coached by Welshman Rob Edwards. New loanee Kaelan Casey came off the bench in the second half at the Riverside to make his Swansea debut, and the 20-year-old from West Ham United is hoping for a bigger slice of the action against Crawley - and a first run-out in front of the home supporters at the Stadium. "I'm looking forward to Tuesday and hopefully I'll get some more minutes," Casey said. "You should never underestimate any team really, but I'm looking forward to it and can't wait to play in front of the fans. "We've got some really good defenders here... the skipper Ben [Cabango], Cameron [Burgess] - experienced players and I think I can learn off of them as well. "But hopefully further into the season I'll get some minutes and we'll see." Crawley come into the game on the back of defeat to another Welsh club, having lost 2-1 at home on Saturday to Newport County in League Two. Latest Swansea City news, analysis and fan views

Swansea City confirm sixth signing of the summer as West Ham youngster joins on loan

Swansea City confirm sixth signing of the summer as West Ham youngster joins on loan The centre-back has become the latest arrival at Swansea City this summer Kaelan Casey of West Ham United Swansea City have completed the signing of West Ham United centre-back Kaelan Casey on a season long loan. ‌ The 20-year-old is a highly-rated prospect in east London, and has become Swansea's sixth signing of what's already been a busy summer. ‌ The move strengthens Alan Sheehan's defensive options ahead of the trip to Middlesbrough, with Ben Cabango and Ricardo Santos both doubts for the weekend's curtain-raiser. ‌ Casey was part of several Premier League matchday squads last season, even making a late appearance off the bench against Bournemouth, and was recently on West Ham's tour of the United States. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here. "Kaelan trained with us today," Sheehan said when confirming the news of the youngster's arrival. "He's been away with West Ham obviously on their pre-season tour. Article continues below "It was an area where we needed to bring in depth and competition for places. "So we're happy to have him. "He's highly rated, and he's got a good size and presence. He's somebody that's been watched by the recruitment team and he's very highly regarded at West Ham. ‌ "So for us to get him in and add to that position is very pleasing." Asked if he might make his debut this weekend, the Swans boss added: "Potentially. We would hope so. We've brought him in to provide competition and it's an area where a few players have gone down in pre-season. "So we haven't been able to really field our potentially strongest team in pre-season. So it's an area we needed to strengthen." ‌ Director of football, Richard Montague, added: 'Kaelan will provide valuable depth for us in an area we had previously identified as needed additional resource this summer. 'He has already had a taste of Premier League football, which underlines how he is viewed by West Ham, and in our discussions with him his appetite to challenge himself has been clear. We hope he will prove to be a positive addition, developing his own game and improving us as a squad.' Global head of analytics and recruitment, Adam Worth, added: 'Kaelan is a talented young player we believe has the attributes to strengthen our options defensively. ‌ 'He already has experience of playing in Europe and at Premier League level, and he joins us raring to go following his recent experience in America.' Swansea are still hoping for futher additions before the close of the window, with a striker near the top of the club's wishlist. The Swans have already had two offers knocked back for Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone, but have seen their pursuit stall in the last few days. Article continues below Swedish star Jusef Erabi is also understood to be a figure of interest to the Swans recruitment team, amid reports elsewhere of the club making a possible offer to Hammarby for his services.

Swansea City eye loan move for West Ham United starlet

Swansea City are keen on taking West Ham United youngster Kaelan Casey on loan, sources have told WalesOnline. The 20-year-old is a highly-rated prospect in east London, having made his Premier League debut in May 2024. He was part of several Premier League matchday squads last season, even making a late appearance off the bench against Bournemouth, and is currently with the rest of the squad for the tour of the United States. Injuries to Ben Cabango and Ricardo Santos mean Cameron Burgess is currently the only recognised senior centre-back at Alan Sheehan's disposal ahead of next weekend's curtain-raiser, and reinforcements have become a serious priority in this window. Should Casey make the move to the Swans, he'd be doing so with the seal of approval from a former City boss. Speaking about his talents back in January, Hammers manager Graham Potter said: "He's been training with us. He's done well. "Obviously, we haven't had too many full training sessions, so I can't give you a full assessment of him. "But in the training sessions that we've had, he's trained well, he's done well. "It's a big step, obviously, into the Premier League. But again, he's someone that is well thought of. "He's trained well, he conducts himself well, he wants to learn, he wants to improve. So he's an option." Current Swans boss Sheehan would certainly welcome fresh defensive cover ahead of next weekend's trip to Middlesbrough, and admits he's hopeful of bringing some new faces in the coming days. Asked if there were likely to be further arrivals before his side journey to Teesside he said: "All going well, yeah. "We're in talks with players. But we're not just going to sign anyone. They've got to be the right fit for the football club in order to make us better. "We've done good quality signings so far and there may be a couple more before the end of the window, but I've no idea really on timescale." The club are also working on possible attacking reinforcements, with Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone the subject of keen interest, with Swansea already having two bids knocked back.
