Senior couple's P6K pension stolen in QC
An unidentified woman was caught in a CCTV footage stealing a P6,000 pension from a senior citizen couple in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City.
According to a report of GMA Integrated News' James Agustin on Unang Balita Wednesday, the suspect approached the couple in front of a printing shop and offered them a supposed rice assistance from a congressman.
The suspect asked the couple to write their names and address on a small piece of paper.
While the couple was busy writing, the suspect was seen in the CCTV footage taking the wallet inside the bag of the elderly woman.
The suspect asked for a photocopy of their ID cards and fled.
When the elderly woman checked her bag, her wallet was no longer there.
'Bigla lang silang lumapit at nagsabi na hindi na kayo magbili ng bigas kasi may nagpamigay na kongresista ng bigas. Tag-limang kilo. Malaki na yun dahil dalawa kami ni mister,' the victim said.
(She suddenly came and said that you don't need to buy rice because a congressman was giving away rice. Five kilos each. That was a lot because we are two.)
'Pinasulat niya ako ng address at pangalan ko sa maliit lang na papel. Tapos pagkuha ko dito sa bag ko ng wallet ko dahil ipa-xerox kuno ang ID pero di ko namalayan dinukot na pala,' she added.
(She made me write my address and name on a small piece of paper. Then I checked my wallet inside my bag because she said I had to photocopy my ID but I didn't notice it had already been stolen.)
According to the elderly man, they waited around six months to receive the pension.
He said they were planning to use the money for their food and medicine. He added their child is also undergoing dialysis.
The Barangay Commonwealth government said another senior citizen was victimized on the same day.
Authorities are now identifying the suspect.
The Barangay Commonwealth government advised the public not to trust any strangers who will approach them.
'Huwag po tayong maniwala basta-basta sa taong lumalapit sa atin, mapababae o mapalalaki na sila po ay diumano nagmamalasakit,' Kagawad Elmer Buena said.
