Egypt prepares for Eid Al-Fitr with 350 prayer areas in Cairo, intensive security and healthcare measures

Part of the Ministry of Interior's preparations for Eid Al-Fitr celebrations - MOI CAIRO – 30 March 2025: As Eid Al-Fitr is only a few hours away, Cairo is making extensive preparations to welcome the festive occasion. Local authorities have heightened readiness across all service sectors, halting employee vacations to ensure smooth operations during the celebrations. The local government has conducted thorough inspections of cleanliness in mosques and prayer areas, with 350 designated prayer sites across the city being carefully reviewed. Additionally, the cleanliness of main thoroughfares, public bus stations, service areas, metro lines, and archaeological sites has been prioritized, with particular attention given to the Nile Corniche. Preparations include ensuring the readiness of kiosks and mosaic seating areas along the Corniche to accommodate visitors. In the governorate's parks, officials have confirmed the safety and functionality of recreational facilities, maintained green spaces, and ensured the upkeep of lighting systems, pathways, fences, and restrooms. To preserve the parks' appearance, plastic bags will be distributed to visitors to encourage proper waste disposal. EMERGENCY RESPONSE Government agencies have also completed their holiday readiness plan, activating crisis management rooms under the leadership of Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health. The plan includes providing all main roads nationwide with 838 ambulances equipped to function as mobile intensive care units. Special attention has been given to coastal cities, where domestic tourism is expected to surge as citizens flock to enjoy the holiday. The plan also encompasses the Cairo Metro system, with 15 fixed ambulance stations and increased coverage at interchange stations. Ten river ambulances will secure the navigable waters of the Nile in Cairo, Giza, Luxor, and Aswan, linking ambulance points to metro stations for rapid response to medical emergencies. INTENSIVE SECURITY MEASURES Moreover, the Ministry of Interior has raised security readiness levels across the nation, implementing comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of Eid celebrations. Increased traffic services and patrols are deployed on major roads, supported by an integrated electronic monitoring system to ensure traffic discipline and respond swiftly to any emergencies. The security plans extend to subway and railway stations, where a visible security presence will monitor conditions, particularly at entrances and exits, ensuring a peaceful environment for all celebrators. Egypt is preparing for the first day of Eid Al-Fitr on Monday, with children excitedly donning new Eid clothes and families enjoying the traditional festive treat, Kahk. Public and private sector employees nationwide are enjoying a paid holiday extending from Saturday to Wednesday, as per Cabinet's decrees.

Andaleeb Zohdy Presents Perfect Kahk (Eid Cookies) Recipe

Pasant Elzaitony There are several ways to make delicious Kahk, but the most special method is, of course, the classic, well-refined one, preserved by professional pastry chefs. Talented food blogger Andaleeb Zohdy shares her recipes with great precision, excellence, and professionalism. Andaleeb Zohdy Here is her recipe for stuffed Kahk (Eid cookies) with Malban (Plain Turkish Delight): Ingredients: 1 kg of biscuit and cookies flour 20 grams of Kahk spice 3 tbsp toasted sesame seeds ½ cup lukewarm water (may need an extra 2 tbsp, but no more) 1 tbsp sugar (to dissolve in water) 1½ tsp instant yeast (or 1 sachet) 500g ghee ¼ tsp salt (mixed with the flour) Directions: Heat the ghee well, then pour it over the dry ingredients (flour, salt, and Kahk spice) without adding the sesame seeds or yeast mixture. Next, add the toasted sesame seeds. Mix the dough well in the mixer until it becomes smooth, shiny, and slightly jiggly. Once the dough cools, add the yeast mixture and mix just until combined. Make sure to add the yeast mixture once the dough is cooled down, because high heat can kill the yeast. Shape the dough into balls and fill each one with the filling. How to Prepare the Malban Filling: You can use plain Malban which is available in pastry supply stores. Mix it with 1 tbsp of ghee and shape it into small balls for filling. Avoid overfilling to prevent the Kahk from cracking during baking. Baking Instructions & Oven Temperature: For plain Kahk, bake it for 25 minutes. For stuffed Kahk: bake it at 200°C (high heat) for 10-12 minutes only, to keep the filling moist. Enjoy your delicious Kahk! Discover Egypt's 18-Year tradition of Eid Kahk production

CAIRO – 27 March 2025: The cities and towns within Egypt's Gharbia Governorate are widely celebrated as premier locations for the crafting and production of traditional Eid cookies (Kahk) and a delightful array of other festive sweets. These delectable treats are eagerly sought after by residents from across Gharbia and neighboring governorates each year, coinciding with the joyous Eid celebrations. Furthermore, the tradition of homemade sweets during the final days of Ramadan is a cherished custom among the local communities. During a recent visit to the city of Tanta, a prominent locale within Gharbia Governorate, "Youm7" documented the meticulous process of Eid cookie production within the Gharbia Mills area. This area is a hub for confectionery manufacturing, offering its products to the public at prices that are notably competitive compared to the broader market. The Gharbia Mills complex operates throughout the year, specializing in the creation of various sweets in numerous forms and flavors. Engineer Taha Saeed, the responsible manager of the complex, shared with "Youm7" that this marks the eighteenth consecutive year of the complex's dedicated production of oriental sweets, including traditional "Moulid" sweets, Eid cookies, and biscuits of all varieties. The complex prides itself on consistently providing these products year-round, known for their high quality and affordable pricing, attracting customers from diverse centers, cities, and neighboring governorates. Saeed further elaborated on their production methods, highlighting their reliance on internal resources. The flour used in their products is sourced from the Central and Western Delta Mills Company. The workforce employed at the complex comprises the company's own personnel, who also contribute to the production of the automatic bread available within the complex. He also provided insights into the pricing, stating that the cost for a kilogram of Eid cookies begins at 100 Egyptian pounds for the popular "Qaraqish" biscuits and 210 Egyptian pounds for the traditional "Kahk" cookies. Saeed noted that the preparations for the Ramadan season, specifically for Eid cookie production, commence at the beginning of the month of Sha'ban and continue until the start of Ramadan. Subsequently, the automated machinery is fully utilized to meet the anticipated demands of the market and the contracted companies. As Eid Al-Fitr approaches, many people indulge in traditional sweets such as Kahk, biscuits, petit fours, and Ghorayeba. While these treats are an essential part of the celebration, excessive consumption can lead to weight gain and elevated blood sugar levels. Packed with fats, carbohydrates, and calories, these sweets can contribute to digestive issues, which tend to rise during Eid due to unhealthy eating habits. The calorie content of Eid sweets varies based on ingredients and preparation methods. Here's a breakdown of the average calories per serving: Plain Kahk (50g): 200 - 220 kcal Stuffed Kahk (dates/nuts, 50g): 220 - 250 kcal Biscuits (40g): 150 - 180 kcal Ghorayeba (40g): 120 - 140 kcal Petit Four (30g): 100 - 120 kcal Maamoul with dates (50g): 250 - 270 kcal The calorie count can increase depending on added ingredients like nuts, fillings, and sugar toppings. To minimize calorie intake, opt for smaller portions and lighter sweets to reduce fat consumption, especially in treats like Kahk and Ghorayeba.

Celebrating Eid Al-Fitr: Rekindling Nostalgic Vibes

Eid Al-Fitr is more than just a celebration; it's a cherished celebration that evokes warm memories of togetherness and joy. From childhood moments filled with excitement to family gatherings filled with love, it carries a nostalgic essence that makes it truly special. However, in today's fast-paced world, many of its nostalgic features are fading away. To reignite our childhood festive spirit of Eid, we need to revive some forgotten traditions, reconnect with loved ones, and celebrate with the same enthusiasm as we used to. Start preparing for Eid a few days before the holiday by cleaning your home, buying new clothes, planning for family gatherings, and making arrangements for food and gifts. These small yet meaningful preparations help set the festive mood and bring back the anticipation that made Eid so magical in the past. Here's a guide for making the most of the Eid Al-Fitr celebration. Reconnect with Your Loved Ones Eid Al-Fitr is a celebration that brings families and friends together and an opportunity to strengthen our relationships. Plan to visit your relatives and friends during Eid, especially those who are elderly or alone, to spread the joy and blessings of the holiday. If you are unable to visit them, contact them by sending a lovely greeting message or a call. That will make them feel tied and appreciated. Making an effort to visit someone or exchanging greetings will spread the spirit of love, joy, and kindness. Revive The Spirit of Eid Classics Listen to classic Eid songs to bring back the nostalgic vibes, or watch TV shows that are related to Eid, such as Madrasat Al-Mushaghibin play, a timeless iconic work that reminds us of our childhood Eid vibes. Visit old places like your childhood home, your grandparents' home, or any place where you used to celebrate Eid. Gather your family and play with fireworks like we used to do, but make sure that everyone is safe and that you are not disturbing your neighbors. Embrace Traditional Customs Gather your family and bake traditional Eid treats like Kahk (Eid Al-Fitr cookies) and biscuits instead of buying the ready-made ones. Practice old family rituals and unique Eid morning traditions, such as dressing up in traditional clothing like Jalabiya to gather for Eid prayer, or putting on some new clothes and wearing a nice perfume to go out and enjoy your first morning outing together after Ramadan. Don't forget to exchange Eid greetings with your family and neighbors in the morning to spread the joy of the holiday. Finally, let the younger generations know our customs and traditions and share in every detail; nothing gets little ones more excited than the anticipation of a celebration. Spread Joy with Eid Gifts Gift-giving is a meaningful part of Eid celebrations as it helps spread joy and happiness, especially among children. Moreover, it is a great opportunity to inspire children to think of others and learn to spread love. Make sure you give thoughtful gifts to your loved ones; it could be anything from Eidiya to a friendly note, Kahk and biscuits to chocolates and sweets. Don't overlook your neighbors; a small, thoughtful gesture can go a long way in fostering love and positivity within your neighborhood. Remember, whatever it is, what comes from the heart reaches the heart.
