Timeless Wonder: Giza Pyramids buzz during Eid vacation

Giza Pyramids - file CAIRO – June 6, 2025: The Giza Pyramids, one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world, continue to captivate both Egyptians and international visitors, especially during holidays and festive seasons like Eid al-Adha. As one of Egypt's most treasured landmarks, the pyramids represent an enduring symbol of ancient civilization and architectural brilliance. Located on the Giza Plateau, the site includes the monumental pyramids of the Fourth Dynasty kings: Khufu, his son Khafre, and his grandson Menkaure, along with the majestic Great Sphinx. Each king's pyramid was part of a grand complex that also featured smaller pyramids for queens, a "religious" subsidiary pyramid, and a valley temple linked by a ceremonial causeway adorned with scenes of daily life. These causeways led to the mortuary temples, where priests performed sacred funeral rites for the deceased kings. While the famed Solar Boats of Khufu have now been relocated to the Grand Egyptian Museum, the boat pits where they were originally discovered remain on site, offering further historical insight. The plateau also includes a number of mastabas, ancient tombs used for the burial of royal family members and high-ranking officials. As the Eid celebrations continue, many Egyptians are taking advantage of the holiday to reconnect with their heritage and explore this awe-inspiring monument of human achievement. Egypt celebrates Eid al-Adha amid tightened security measures

Egypt celebrates Eid al-Adha amid tightened security measures CAIRO - 6 June 2025: Egyptians are celebrating the joyous first day of Eid al-Adha on Friday, with scenes of happiness spreading across the country. To ensure that festivities unfold in a safe and peaceful atmosphere, the government has implemented extensive security measures nationwide. The Ministry of Interior has launched a comprehensive security plan aimed at safeguarding public safety and ensuring that citizens can enjoy the holiday without disruptions. Special focus has been placed on areas that traditionally attract large crowds during Eid, such as public parks, cinemas, and shopping centers. From the early hours of the morning, a significant security presence has been deployed across main streets and public squares. Police officers have been stationed in large numbers to maintain order, ease traffic flow, and prevent any disturbances to the public peace. In anticipation of increased footfall along the Nile banks and riverboats, the Water Police have stepped up patrols and inspections to enforce safety protocols. These measures are intended to prevent overcrowding and ensure compliance with boat capacity limits, thereby protecting citizens and averting potential accidents. Similarly, the Tourism Police have intensified their presence at archaeological and historical sites popular with both locals and tourists. Their role includes managing crowd flow, securing the sites, and offering emergency support if needed. The Transportation Police have raised their alert level to the maximum, particularly in train stations, metro lines, and public transportation hubs, to manage the increased movement of travelers and maintain safety standards. On the economic front, the Supply Police have launched widespread market inspections to monitor prices and combat monopolistic practices or unjustified price hikes, especially given the surge in demand during the holiday. These campaigns are conducted in coordination with relevant regulatory bodies to maintain stability in the market and safeguard citizens' access to essential goods. Supporting these efforts is the 'We Are All One' initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and several retail chains and suppliers, which continues to provide discounted food items through outlets spread across all governorates. This initiative has played a key role in easing financial burdens on citizens and spreading a sense of communal satisfaction. The Ministry of Interior's nationwide security plan encompasses all sectors, aiming to uphold public order, prevent crime, and ensure the full protection of citizens throughout the Eid festivities. The plan includes the deployment of rapid response units, mobile patrols, and reinforced checkpoints at strategic and high-traffic locations. Female police officers have also been deployed in densely populated areas to enhance security and provide assistance to women and children when necessary. Traffic police have intensified monitoring on highways and major roads, deploying rapid-response units to address breakdowns and assist travelers, ensuring smooth transportation throughout the holiday period. Security officials across various governorates are personally overseeing the implementation of these measures through on-site inspections. Officers have been instructed to remain vigilant, fully prepared, and committed to courteous and supportive engagement with the public, reinforcing the image of a police force in service to the people. Special attention is also being given to securing Eid prayer sites, bustling marketplaces, and recreational areas expected to draw large crowds. All divisions of the Ministry of Interior are operating at full capacity to safeguard Eid al-Adha celebrations, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to providing a secure, stable, and reassuring environment for all Egyptians during these blessed days.
