Hrithik Roshan was the first choice for Bunty Aur Babli, he ‘wasn't comfortable' playing a small town character, reveals director Shaad Ali

Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji-starrer Bunty Aur Babli released in theatres 20 years ago and it continues to be one of the most loved films starring the duo. But, way before Abhishek was signed for the film, director Shaad Ali wanted Hrithik Roshan to star as Bunty but the Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai actor wasn't too keen to present himself in the role of a con man from a small town. In a recent interview, Shaad shared that Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan was very keen for him to do the role. So much so that in the many months of their back and forth, Hrithik suggested the ending of the film to be changed, and Shaad eventually went with Hrithik's suggestion. In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Shaad shared that Hrithik 'was our first choice.' He added, 'We sat for a few months with him. Rakesh ji (Rakesh Roshan) liked the script a lot and he was keen that Hrithik should sign the film. But Hrithik was not very comfortable going into the small town zone at that time.' Shaad shared that Hrithik had 'reservations' about the same. But, even though Hrithik Roshan did not do the film, he contributed significantly to how the film eventually shaped up. 'He did have a lot of ideas for the film. In fact, it was Hrithik's idea that Bunty and Babli should return to conning in the last scene. He reasoned, 'They are like Superman! They can't go back to their lives and not return ever in the con world.' In the original idea, the story ended once Bunty and Babli were let off and they become law-abiding citizens. I should have thanked Hrithik in the credits,' he shared. While Abhishek entered the picture later, Rani was always his first choice for Babli. Not just that, even Jaya Bachchan was thanked in the credits of the film. Shaad explained the reason behind the same and shared, 'That was the time when the Uttar Pradesh Film Board had just been established. Jaya ji and Amar Singh were a part of it. This was the first film which was majorly shot in the state. We didn't get any subsidy but we were assured of complete administrative help.'

When Hrithik Roshan claimed Kader Khan DELAYED his acting dreams: "He made my life hell'

Before becoming one of Bollywood's most celebrated actors, Hrithik Roshan had to endure a rocky start — and surprisingly, veteran actor-writer Kader Khan played a pivotal role in that struggle. In a candid revelation from an old interview, Hrithik shared how Kader Khan, known for his powerful on-screen presence and commanding voice, once stood in the way of his early acting ambitions. Speaking to film critic Anupama Chopra, Hrithik shared that before he became a Bollywood superstar with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai , he almost ended up studying special effects due to his father's concerns. 'My father, having faced a lot of struggles as an actor, warned me. He said, 'You must have something to fall back on,'' Hrithik recalled. That's when Kader Khan entered the picture and 'made my life hell,' Hrithik said with a chuckle. He recounted how Khan convinced Rakesh to send Hrithik to Bhagubhai Polytechnic College to learn how to fix appliances, advice that temporarily derailed his acting dreams. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cost Of Amusement Park Equipment From Mexico Might Surprise You - See Tips Amusement Park Equipment | search ads Click Here Undo A Confused Start to his Career Narrating the humorous turn of events, Hrithik said, 'My dad came home and said, 'You have to do this. Post-Debut Struggles and Self-Doubt Despite Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai making Hrithik an overnight sensation, the road wasn't smooth. Several flops followed, leaving him emotionally shaken. Actress Ameesha Patel , his co-star, recalled on Siddharth Kannan's show how Hrithik felt disheartened. 'He said to me, 'You gave Gadar, and I'm giving flops,'' she remembered. Hrithik Roshan's most memorable fashion moments: Recreate these top 6 looks now!

Hrithik Roshan is not just a Bollywood superstar—he's a walking fashion moment. Every time he graces the screen, his characters bring with them a whole new style statement. Be it the innocent charm of Raj in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, the brooding intensity of Karan in Lakshya, or the sharply dressed Mr. A in Dhoom 2, Hrithik has served one iconic look after another. With each film, he's not just acted—he's styled an era. His screen wardrobe choices have left fans gasping, imitating, and sometimes just quietly admiring in awe. Let's take a nostalgic and stylish ride through six of his most memorable cinematic looks, each one a mood, a moment, and a complete fashion masterclass. Rohan in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham Rohan's look in K3G was all about elegance with a youthful twist. Clad in sharp sweaters, crisp T-shirts, and classic jeans, he brought an effortless cool to the big-hearted family drama. His style spoke of a boy in London but rooted in Indian values, perfectly marrying western polish with desi warmth. With every frame, Rohan made us believe that you could be sanskari and stylish. Aryan/Mr. A in Dhoom 2 When Hrithik became Mr. A, he didn't just steal jewels, he stole the show. From suits and leather jackets to beach vests and those sunglasses, his look screamed international style. Each outfit seemed like it belonged on a runway, even as he jumped off trains or scaled walls. Aryan's wardrobe combined danger, allure, and jaw-dropping swag, making Dhoom 2 not just an action film, but a style exhibition. Honestly, Hrithik in a leather jacket on a desert bike? Peak cinema. Karan Shergill in Lakshya Karan's fashion journey was a character arc in itself. He started off in slouchy college tees, aimless and unbothered, but the moment he joined the army, his attire snapped to attention. From fatigues to crisp military uniforms, every stitch reflected his transformation. The soldier's uniform never looked more commanding, or cinematic. Karan showed us that discipline could be stylish, and Hrithik wore that journey with both grace and grit. Raj in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai Raj's style was a love letter to 2000s fashion. Bright shirts, relaxed pants, and tinted sunglasses—he was the poster boy for a generation that had just discovered cable TV and boy bands. Whether he was dancing in New Zealand or wooing Amisha Patel, Raj's outfits oozed innocence and charm. His look was the kind that screamed 'puppy love,' and yet had the confidence of a debutant who knew he'd arrived. Raj didn't just make hearts flutter—he made cargo pants cool. Admit it, you tried to copy that iconic dance pose in your living room. Arjun in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Arjun's fashion was effortless European elegance. Initially rigid in his formals and watches, Arjun's wardrobe relaxed as his heart did. From high-end suits to beach-ready linens, his evolving look paralleled his personal transformation. He was that friend who always dressed sharp, even on vacation, but finally learned to kick off his shoes—and his emotional armour. His fashion told a quiet story: that sometimes, letting go is the most stylish thing of all. Kabir in Bang Bang! Kabir was adrenaline in motion, and he dressed the part. Leather jackets, tight black tees, killer boots, and that signature stubble made him the ultimate action hero with swag. Whether riding bullets or romancing Katrina, Kabir looked like Bond's cooler cousin. His style was equal parts danger and charm—dressed to thrill and designed to dazzle. The sunglasses were always perfectly timed, and so were the slow-mo walks. He made espionage look like a photo shoot, and every outfit came with its own background score. Be it in wind-swept open shirts, crisp military uniforms, or slick heist-ready suits, Hrithik didn't just wear the clothes, he owned the vibe. His fashion across films reflects the versatility of a man who's just as comfortable being the chocolate boy of the 2000s as he is being the stylish adrenaline junkie of the 2010s. Each look has become a reference point, a mood board, and often, a style goal for fans across generations. Priyanka Chopra's top 6 Bollywood fashion moments: Recreate these looks now! Met Gala 2025: Indian stars rule the red carpet, from SRK to Diljit Dosanjh Anushka Sharma's best looks: Channel the diva's casual style with a filmy twist Dhoom 2 is widely regarded as Hrithik's most fashion-forward film, blending international style with Bollywood glam. While costume designers lead the process, Hrithik often collaborates closely to ensure his looks align with the character's mindset and journey. It was the transformation—from casual college wear to disciplined military uniforms—that made his look both emotional and iconic. Opt for tailored linen shirts, neutral chinos, sleek loafers, and a minimal watch. Think Mediterranean chic with an introspective edge. When Hrithik Roshan locked himself in the bathroom and started crying: Father Rakesh Roshan recalls heart-breaking moment

Agencies Hrithik Roshan, despite his family's Bollywood legacy, faced significant challenges, including a childhood stammer. His sister, Sunaina, revealed his dedicated speech therapy, waking up at 4:30 AM daily. His father, Rakesh Roshan, recalled Hrithik's intense determination to overcome his speech impediment, Hrithik Roshan stands out as a major figure in the Hindi cinema world, celebrated for his exceptional performances, striking appearance, and remarkable talent on the dance floor. As a member of the illustrious Roshan family, many assume his rise in Bollywood was smooth and effortless. However, the reality of his path has been quite the opposite. Beneath the glamour and spotlight lies a story defined by perseverance, relentless effort, inner confidence, and the strength to push through adversity. One of the biggest hurdles Hrithik had to tackle from a young age was his struggle with a speech impediment—specifically, stammering. In a heartfelt conversation with Pinkvilla, Hrithik's sister, Sunaina Roshan, shed light on how he overcame this personal challenge. She revealed that Hrithik was so determined to improve his speech that he would begin his day at 4:30 AM to attend special speech therapy sessions. According to Sunaina, his commitment was unwavering, and she admired how dedicated he was in gradually overcoming the issue. 'He did a lot of work to stop stuttering. Hats off to him. I remember him waking up very early to practice,' she asked if she ever defended Hrithik from bullies during their childhood, Sunaina admitted that she was quite young at the time and soon got married, making it difficult for her to play that role. However, she emphasized that their family was always united, especially during times of health concerns or personal struggles. Interestingly, she described Hrithik as someone who naturally assumed the role of the older sibling, even though she is technically older. 'He's always protected me like an elder brother. That's the kind of bond we share,' she added fondly. In a separate interview with ANI, Hrithik's father, director Rakesh Roshan, spoke about a particularly emotional moment from his son's past. He remembered Hrithik locking himself in the bathroom, determined to say the phrase "Thank you, Dubai" without stammering. Rakesh expressed how painful it was to watch his son—who was intelligent and articulate—feel insecure because of his speech difficulty. 'He would get stuck on the letter 'D' and wouldn't come out until he got it right,' he said, admiring his son's willpower. Rakesh proudly mentioned that Hrithik has not struggled with stammering for over a decade now. Known affectionately as the 'Greek God of Bollywood,' Hrithik burst onto the scene with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, directed by his father. The film turned him into an overnight star. Since then, he has headlined numerous blockbusters, including Koi Mil Gaya, Dhoom 2, Jodhaa Akbar, and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. He is currently preparing for his next major release, War 2, alongside Kiara Advani.
