Hrithik Roshan was the first choice for Bunty Aur Babli, he ‘wasn't comfortable' playing a small town character, reveals director Shaad Ali
Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji-starrer Bunty Aur Babli released in theatres 20 years ago and it continues to be one of the most loved films starring the duo. But, way before Abhishek was signed for the film, director Shaad Ali wanted Hrithik Roshan to star as Bunty but the Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai actor wasn't too keen to present himself in the role of a con man from a small town. In a recent interview, Shaad shared that Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan was very keen for him to do the role. So much so that in the many months of their back and forth, Hrithik suggested the ending of the film to be changed, and Shaad eventually went with Hrithik's suggestion.
In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Shaad shared that Hrithik 'was our first choice.' He added, 'We sat for a few months with him. Rakesh ji (Rakesh Roshan) liked the script a lot and he was keen that Hrithik should sign the film. But Hrithik was not very comfortable going into the small town zone at that time.' Shaad shared that Hrithik had 'reservations' about the same.
But, even though Hrithik Roshan did not do the film, he contributed significantly to how the film eventually shaped up. 'He did have a lot of ideas for the film. In fact, it was Hrithik's idea that Bunty and Babli should return to conning in the last scene. He reasoned, 'They are like Superman! They can't go back to their lives and not return ever in the con world.' In the original idea, the story ended once Bunty and Babli were let off and they become law-abiding citizens. I should have thanked Hrithik in the credits,' he shared. While Abhishek entered the picture later, Rani was always his first choice for Babli.

This was the first film where Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan starred together, and it also became the only film where Amitabh, Abhishek, and his future-wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were seen together. Not just that, even Jaya Bachchan was thanked in the credits of the film. Shaad explained the reason behind the same and shared, 'That was the time when the Uttar Pradesh Film Board had just been established. Jaya ji and Amar Singh were a part of it. This was the first film which was majorly shot in the state. We didn't get any subsidy but we were assured of complete administrative help.'

Himesh Reshammiya Hails 'Fantastic' Paresh Rawal For Hera Pheri Films Mid-Concert
Last Updated: Himesh Reshammiya praised Paresh Rawal during his Mumbai concert amid the Hera Pheri 3 controversy. Rawal exited the project, leading to a legal conflict. Himesh Reshammiya enjoyed a packed audience at his Mumbai concert on Saturday, May 31. After taking a dig at trolls about his nasal tune, the singer paused his concert midway to praise Paresh Rawal for his performance in both Hera Pheri films. This comes amid erupting controversy over Rawal's exit from the film. During his concert, Himesh Reshammiya lauded Paresh Rawal. He said, 'Hera Pheri 1, he was fantastic, Hera Pheri 2, he was fantastic, he was also great in…" and started singing the popular O Meri Zohrajabeen track from Phir Hera Pheri, which featured Paresh Rawal as the iconic Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, alongside Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. Though Himesh didn't directly address the ongoing controversy surrounding Paresh Rawal and Hera Pheri 3, his mention of it during the concert can be seen as a silent response to the matter. What Is The Hera Pheri 3 Controversy? Paresh Rawal decided to leave the project, which resulted in a legal conflict with Akshay Kumar's Cape of Good Films. The production company reportedly filed a Rs 25 crore lawsuit against him. According to Bollywood Hungama, Rawal returned Rs 11 lakh, the amount he received as a signing fee, along with 15 percent annual interest and a little extra compensation for his exit. A source informed the portal, 'Paresh Rawal has returned the signing amount of Rs 11 lakhs with 15% p.a. interest and also a little more money for stepping away from the series." Soon after, Rawal took to X and stated that his lawyer has addressed the controversy surrounding his exit from Hera Pheri. He wrote, 'My lawyer, Ameet Naik, has sent an appropriate response regarding my rightful termination and exit. Once they read my response all issues will be laid to rest." During the trailer launch event of Housefull 5, the issue resurfaced when Akshay Kumar was questioned about his fallout with Paresh. In a viral video, Akshay responded, 'I've been working with him for the past 30 years. 32 saal se unke saath kaam karte aya hoon. We are very good friends. He is a great actor whom I really admire. I don't think this is the right place to discuss it. Since it's a very serious matter, it will be handled by the court. I'm not going to speak about it here." Meanwhile, rumours are rife that the makers are now eyeing Pankaj Tripathi to take on the role of Baburao in Hera Pheri 3. An official confirmation regarding this is awaited. Is Himesh Reshammiya not happy with Paresh Rawal's exit from Hera Pheri 3? Singer REACTS during Mumbai concert
Whenever we talk about Hera Pheri, it would be incomplete without the mention of Baburao. The iconic character of Bollywood cinemas, which was brought to life by Paresh Rawal became will always be remembered irrespective of his being a part of the franchise or not. In the past couple of days, fans' dreams have been shattered after the news of his exit came to the forefront. From Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar to Johnny Lever, everyone has reacted to this. And now the latest name added to this list is that of Himesh Reshammiya, who did not leave a moment to praise the star for his brilliant performance in parts 1 and 2. During his concert in Mumbai, Himesh Reshammiya made sure to leave the crowd dancing to his tunes. In a brief moment, the singer praised Paresh Rawal, right before he was about to sing a song from Phir Hera Pheri. He said, 'Hera Pheri 1 he was fantastic, Hera Pheri 2 he was fantastic, he was also great in…' and he started singing the Jumme Raat song from the second part of the franchise. Well, we are sure that if Paresh Rawal does not play Baburao in Hera Pheri 3, then the experience of watching this comedy caper is just not going to be the same for everyone. For the unversed, Bollywood Hungama reported that Paresh Rawal has exited Hera Pheri 3 over creative differences between him and the makers. Later, the actor himself took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared that his decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 wasn't due to creative differences. He also shared having 'immense love, respect and faith' in filmmaker Priyadarshan. Earlier, Pinkvilla exclusively reported that the producers of Hera Pheri 3, Cape of Good Films, have sent a legal notice to Paresh Rawal for damages of Rs 25 crore. A source shared, 'Cape of Good Films had procured the rights of Hera Pheri 3 from multiple stakeholders and even repaid all the debts existing on the film. The amount splurged was in crores, as the intent was to get back Hera Pheri on the big screen after 20 years for the audience. Paresh's unprofessional behaviour has cost a bomb to the film.' Well, amidst all this, we really hope Rawal returns as Baburao in the 3rd part.
