Speaking at a public event in Indore, the Urban Development Minister expressed disapproval of what he described as "skimpy clothes" worn by young women."In Western culture, women wearing fewer clothes are considered beautiful. I don't agree with that," he said. "In India, we appreciate women who dress modestly, wear jewellery, and present themselves gracefully."Mr. Vijayvargiya made these remarks while drawing an analogy between short speeches and short dresses. "There's a belief in the West that women in fewer clothes and leaders who speak less are appreciated. But I don't believe that. To me, women are forms of goddesses and should dress accordingly," he also mentioned that he often asks young women who approach him for selfies to dress "properly" next time."Sometimes girls come for selfies, and I tell them, 'Beta, come in proper clothes next time, then we'll take a photo,'" he isn't the first instance of Vijayvargiya's remarks stirring backlash. At a Hanuman Jayanti event in 2022, he made similar statements, criticizing young women's clothing. "Girls today wear such inappropriate clothes... We call women goddesses, but they don't look like that. Some resemble Shurpanakha. God gave you a beautiful body, at least dress decently. Teach your children values," he had said then.

At Indore event, MP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stirs row — ‘Don't like women wearing skimpy clothes'

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has stirred up the hornet's nest yet again. At a recent public event held in Indore, Vijayvargiya said he didn't 'like girls who wear skimpy clothes'. In a speech he made at the event, Vijayvargiya, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh's minister for urban development and parliamentary affairs, drew comparisons between Indian and Western culture, saying: 'Here in India, we consider a girl beautiful when she dresses well, wears jewellery, and adorns herself gracefully. In the West, a woman wearing fewer clothes is considered beautiful. I don't agree with that'. Continuing his comparison, he said: 'There's a saying in Western countries that a woman who wears fewer clothes is considered very beautiful, just as a leader who speaks less is considered good. But I don't believe in that. I believe a woman is a form of the goddess. She should wear nice clothes. I don't find women in revealing clothes attractive'. I tell them – 'Beta, come in proper clothes next time, then we'll take a photo'.' Vijayvargiya's team have refused to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, the Congress claimed the comments 'showed the BJP mentality'. 'Their mentality has been exposed to the public,' Congress spokesperson Abhinav Barolia told The Indian Express. This is not the first time Vijayvargiya has made comments on women's clothing. While attending a Hanuman Jayanti event in Indore in 2023, he remarked: 'I won't lie on Hanuman Jayanti… but girls these days wear such filthy clothes… We call women goddesses, but they don't appear that way… They look like Shurpanakha (a demoness from Hindu mythology). God has given you a beautiful body, at least wear decent clothes. Teach your children values'.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 28 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Wednesday inspected arrangements of Indore Metro ahead of its inauguration and announced that free rides will be provided to passengers for the first seven days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to virtually inaugurate the Indore Metro from Bhopal on May 31 where he will arrive to participate in a women centred program 'Women Empowerment Maha Samagam' on the occasion of 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. On Wednesday evening, Vijayvargiya reached Gandhi Nagar station of Indore Metro and took stock of the preparation for the inauguartion of the Indore Metro. Speaking to reporters, the Minister said, 'PM Modi's program on May 31 in Bhopal is dedicated to women empowerment. It is the year of women empowerment. On the 300th birth anniversary year of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, we have decided that the name of this station (Gandhi Nagar Station) will be 'Maa Ahilya terminal' and it will be our gratitude and devotion towards Maa Ahilyabai.' 'Currently, the Indore Metro spans about six kilometers and soon it will be extended further. I believe it will take around six months for expansion of the metro services to other parts of the city and gradually it will further spreaded across the city. Free rides will be given to passengers for the first seven days after starting of the metro,' he added. According to an official release, PM Modi will virtually inaugurate passenger service on the Super Priority Corridor of Indore Metro from Bhopal May 31. This approximately 6-kilometer section is part of the Yellow Line's Super Priority Corridor. It includes five stations: Gandhinagar Station, Super Corridor 6 Station, Super Corridor 5 Station, Super Corridor 4 Station, and Super Corridor 3 Station. This corridor will reduce traffic and pollution, while also providing passengers with a comfortable journey. The Super Priority Corridor is not only important from a technical perspective but also symbolizes Indore's progress toward modernity. Additionally, the total length of the metro project in Indore is 31.32 kilometers. The project includes 22.62 kilometers of elevated and 8.7 kilometers of underground metro. There will be 28 stations on the Yellow Line, which will make urban travel easier, faster, and more environment-friendly. The entire 31.32-kilometer metro project costs approximately Rs 7,500 crore. Initially, a 6-kilometer corridor is being inaugurated, which costs around Rs 1,520 crore. (ANI)
