Commanders sign 3 members of their rookie class
The Washington Commanders reported to Ashburn on Friday for the beginning of rookie minicamp. But before the 2025 rookie class took the field, general manager Adam Peters finished some business with some members of the 2025 NFL draft class. Three of Washington's five draft picks signed their respective rookie contracts: 4th-round pick, WR Jaylin Lane The Virginia Tech speedster is expected to be the Commanders' primary punt returner as a rookie. Due to his game-breaking speed and versatility, he could quickly become a favorite target of quarterback Jayden Daniels. Lane played outside and in the slot in his college career and can also run the ball. Washington is excited about Lane's potential. 6th-round pick, LB Kain Medrano Kain Medrano will be a fun player to watch this summer. His combination of size, speed and coverage ability could get him on the field early, but there are concerns about his tackling. The Commanders can work with Medrano on his tackling. Finding players with Medrano's size/speed profile is more difficult. 7th-round pick, RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt Croskey-Merritt is another rookie the Commanders are excited about. He could get some carries early in his NFL career with the top four running backs entering the final year of their contract. An eligibility issue cost Croskey-Merritt all but one game last season. Had he played, Washington probably wouldn't have gotten him in the seventh round. The depth of the 2025 rookie class also helped push Croskey-Merritt down the board. UCLA's Kain Medrano is Combine's fastest linebacker with 4.46-second 40-yard dash
UCLA linebacker Kain Medrano impressed on the field in Indianapolis at the Scouting Combine. Medrano ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash, making him the fastest linebacker at this year's Combine. The 6-foot-3, 222-pound Medrano spent six years at UCLA, with a redshirt season and a covid exemption giving him extra NCAA eligibility. He had his best season last year and was chosen third-team All-Big Ten. The next-fastest linebackers were Auburn's Eugene Asante at 4.48, Alabama's Jihaad Campbell at 4.52, Oklahoma's Danny Stutsman at 4.52, Oklahoma State's Nick Martin at 4.53 and Oklahoma State's Collin Oliver at 4.56.

The 2025 NFL scouting combine is here and with it, the official kickoff of the 2025 NFL Draft season. The NFL invited 329 players to Indianapolis for the annual event, where players work out, teams get to interview them and coaches and front-office personnel from around the league address the media with the final recaps of the 2024 season and start looking ahead to 2025. The Tennessee Titans have the No. 1 pick in this year's draft. The last time they picked first was in 1978, when they — then the Houston Oilers — selected Heisman Trophy-winning running back and eventual Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. This season's Heisman winner, Travis Hunter, will be in Indianapolis. The two-way superstar is listed as a cornerback, but may work out with the defensive backs and wide receivers, should he take the field. The top running back in this class has already decided he won't be working out, with Ashton Jeanty reportedly making that decision at the beginning of the week. NFL combine live updates: James Pearce Jr., Jihaad Campbell stand out as DL, LB prospects run 40-yard dash
The 2025 NFL scouting combine is here and with it, the official kickoff of the 2025 NFL Draft season. The NFL invited 329 players to Indianapolis for the annual event, where players work out, teams get to interview them and coaches and front-office personnel from around the league address the media with the final recaps of the 2024 season and start looking ahead to 2025. The Tennessee Titans have the No. 1 pick in this year's draft. The last time they picked first was in 1978, when they — then the Houston Oilers — selected Heisman Trophy-winning running back and eventual Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. This season's Heisman winner, Travis Hunter, will be in Indianapolis. The two-way superstar is listed as a cornerback, but may work out with the defensive backs and wide receivers, should he take the field. The top running back in this class has already decided he won't be working out, with Ashton Jeanty reportedly making that decision at the beginning of the week.
