Renovated Gandhiji Centenary Bus Stand inaugurated at Rajapalayam
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday inaugurated the renovated Gandhiji Centenary Bus Stand at Rajapalayam, through video conference facility.
The bus stand has been renovated at a cost of ₹2.90 crore under Kalaignar Nagarpura Membattu Thittam by Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply.
Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran lit a lamp to mark the formal inauguration in the presence of Virudhunagar Collector V.P. Jeyaseelan, Tenkasi MP Rani Shrikumar, Rajapalayam MLA S. Thangapandian and Rajapalayam Municipal Chairperson A.A.S. Bavithra Shyam.
The Minister said that the old bus stand constructed in 1969 on Tenkasi-Madurai Highway was demolished and the new building was constructed on 1.41 acres of land.
The new building, measuring 926 square metres, has got waiting room for the passengers, 23 shops, two hotels, room for nursing mothers, cloak room, time-keeper office, police control room, and toilets for men, women and differently-abled persons.
Virudhunagar Collector said that a dilapidated building of a library near the bus stand had been demolished and efforts were underway to construct a new building at a cost of ₹1 crore
