Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Kaleb Edwards
A player who is new to the program this season, there are few Alabama Crimson Tide tight ends more intriguing than Kaleb Edwards.
Coming to Tuscaloosa as a member of Alabama's 2025 recruiting class, Edwards will be the next player to wear the No. 81 jersey for the Crimson Tide, the same number worn by tight end CJ Dippre over the last two seasons.
Now entering his true freshman season as well, could Edwards potentially end up having a similar impact to Dippre, even in year one?

A new face to college football, this will be Edwards' first season at the collegiate level. Edwards will be a true freshman this fall.

While this will be the first season for Edwards in college, the freshman tight end is however coming off a strong 2024 campaign at the prep level where he attended Oak Ridge High School in California. On offense, Edwards hauled in 44 receptions for 729 yards and nine touchdowns across 13 games, while also compiling 66 tackles defensively with 13.5 TFL and 8.5 sacks.

According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Edwards was considered as the nation's No. 163 overall prospect in the 2025 class, as well as the No. 8 tight end nationally. A four-star prospect, Edwards announced that he was committed to Alabama back in July 2024, and was also ranked as the No. 14 player in the state of California where he attended Oak Ridge High School.

Tasked with replacing a pair of starters in the aforementioned Dippre, as well as Robbie Ouzts, there is certainly a chance for multiple names to emerge at tight end for Alabama this fall.
In that conversation, the leading name is likely that of Josh Cuevas, but when looking for other options to emerge, it's likely that Edwards comes up in some form. The freshman is one of Alabama's more talented tight ends from a physical standpoint, and can make an impact through both phases at the position as a pass catcher and blocker.
Overall, expect Edwards to see some playing time in 2025, and for the true freshman to emerge into a larger role as the season goes along.
