Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers selected to expand capacity at French Seayard Terminal
Seayard_fos2xl-rail-connection KALMAR CORPORATION, PRESS RELEASE, 5 JUNE 2025 AT 9:00 AM (EEST) Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers selected to expand capacity at French Seayard Terminal Kalmar has concluded a deal to supply French terminal operator Seayard with 11 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers for deployment at the Seayard Terminal FOS2 XL container terminal in Fos-sur-Mer, France. The significant order, which also includes MyKalmar INSIGHT coverage for all units, was booked in Kalmar's Q2 2025 order intake, and delivery of the machines is scheduled to be completed during Q2 2026. The Port of Fos-sur-Mer is part of the Marseille-Fos port complex on the French Mediterranean coast and has become a leading French port in terms of performance and reliability. The Seayard container terminal was built in the port's FOS 2XL expansion area as a joint venture between Terminal Investment Limited, APM Terminals and COSCO. The new Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers will help Seayard to significantly reduce both the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of their straddle carrier operations compared to traditional diesel-powered machines. Hybrid machines also generate much less noise. The MyKalmar INSIGHT performance management tool will allow Seayard to turn data into actionable, impactful insights, providing the company with an effective way to manage their fleet operations and identify areas where efficiency can be improved. Jakob Sidenius, CEO, Seayard: 'Kalmar's hybrid straddle carrier is the perfect match for our operational needs as we seek to expand our handling capacity while also optimising fuel consumption and improving reliability. Kalmar's excellent local service presence means we can rely on their proactive, professional support to keep our operations running smoothly around the clock.' Herve Helluin, Service Operations Manager, Kalmar France: 'We are very pleased to be able to continue our partnership with Seayard through this significant new order for our proven hybrid straddle carrier technology. Beyond the fuel savings offered by the hybrid machines, Seayard will be able to continuously improve the efficiency and reliability of its operations using valuable insights gained through MyKalmar INSIGHT.' Mutiara Perlis invests RM17mil in Kalmar equipment to boost inland port
KUALA LUMPUR: Mutiara Perlis has announced an investment worth RM17 million to buy 15 brand-new Kalmar container handling equipment through its appointed partner Mach 1 Group. The partnership marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration aimed at transforming Perlis Inland Port (PIP) into a future ready logistics hub for Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region. The equipment package includes six Kalmar reach stackers, three empty container handlers and six terminal tractors, tailored to meet the operational demands of multimodal cargo movement at PIP. With this new fleet, Mutiara Perlis is poised to multiply its cargo handling capacity, supporting its goal of reaching one million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually upon full project completion. "This acquisition is a pivotal step in our journey to position PIP as a leader in inland port services," Mutiara Perlis group managing director and chief executive officer Wan Ahmad Zaheed Wan Mohamad said in a statement. "We are not just investing in equipment, we are investing in Malaysia's logistics future and Perlis' transformation," he added. PIP is strategically located within the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and adjacent to the Malaysia-Thailand border. It is envisioned as a regional logistics game-changer, linking trade routes from Malaysia to Thailand, Laos and China via the Pan-Asia Railway Network. The procurement was executed through Mach 1, the authorised dealer of Kalmar in Malaysia since 2023, known for its regional expertise and proven track record in port operations. The machines were purchased from Kalmar in 2024. Mach 1 Group chief executive officer Pan Chee Seng reaffirmed that the 24/7 technical assistance, Kalmar Insight fleet analytics and a spare parts hub in Singapore will ensure PIP operates at world-class standards. Kalmar vice president for Asia-Middle East & Africa (AMEA) Teo Yew Boon said the company's innovation in container handling solutions will provide PIP with a robust and scalable platform to grow in line with global port trends. "This collaboration signifies the beginning of a long-term partnership focused on scalable, customer-centric solutions that meet today's operational demands and tomorrow's regional ambitions. "Through this collaboration, we aim to support PIP's rise as a key logistics hub in the Northern Corridor, delivering smarter, more sustainable material handling solutions," Teo added. Phase 1 of the Perlis Inland Port is scheduled for completion in July 2025 and is expected to handle up to 300,000 TEUs annually, more than double the current throughput of 130,000 TEUs at the nearby Padang Besar Container Terminal. The project is poised to generate over 500 new jobs, enhance regional trade connectivity and ease congestion at Malaysia's overstretched coastal ports. It will also anchor Perlis as a key player within the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER).

The order, which also includes a Kalmar FastCharge charging station for the machines, was booked in Kalmar's Q1 2025 order intake, with delivery of the machines scheduled for Q1 2026. DP World has made significant investments into fully electric equipment at London Gateway to help reduce carbon emissions, in line with its science-based target to reduce absolute emissions across its European operations by 51% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050. Kalmar electric straddle carriers with high-energy batteries are capable of operating for up to four hours without charging. DP World has already installed two Kalmar FastCharge charging stations in the yard area that can be used to top up the machines' batteries during shifts. The charging process takes just 45 minutes. The straddle carriers will be fitted with two different charging technologies: a standard CCS2 charging interface that is compatible with any commercial charging station, and a megawatt charging system (MCS) interface for fast charging during operational breaks. Andrew Bowen, Chief Operating Officer, UK Ports & Terminals, DP World: 'At DP World, we are strongly committed to being a global leader in sustainable logistics, and these new additions to our fully electric fleet at London Gateway will play a key role in enabling us to achieve that goal. Technology like Kalmar's allows us to better serve our customers in a more sustainable and efficient way, helping us make trade flow across UK supply chains and beyond.' Karri Keskinen, Head of Sales, Horizontal Transportation, Kalmar: "This significant order represents another step forward for Kalmar and DP World on our shared journey towards a more sustainable future for cargo-handling operations. KALMAR CORPORATION, INTERIM REPORT JANUARY–MARCH 2025, 29 APRIL 2025 AT 9:00 AM (EEST) Kalmar's interim report January–March 2025: Solid first quarter with strong order intake Overall favourable demand environment Equipment segment orders increased by 31 percent year-on-year Record-high services profitability of 19.0 percent Continued focus on sustainable innovations. 5 year Move2Green R&D program launched Increased level of uncertainty in the global economy related to the recently announced tariffs and geopolitics. January–March 2025 in brief: Orders received increased by 20 percent and totalled EUR 480 (402) million Order book amounted to EUR 1,041 (31 Dec 2024: 955) million at the end of the period Sales decreased by 9 percent and totalled EUR 398 (439) million Eco portfolio1 sales represented 43 (40) percent of consolidated sales Eco portfolio sales decreased by 3 percent and totalled EUR 170 (176) million Operating profit was EUR 46 (46) million, representing 11.5 (10.4) percent of sales. The operating profit includes items affecting comparability worth EUR -2 (-8) million Comparable operating profit amounted to EUR 48 (54) million representing 12.0 (12.3) percent of sales, a decrease of 11 percent Cash flow from operations before finance items and taxes totalled EUR 85 (102) million Profit for the period amounted to EUR 34 (33) million Basic earnings per share was EUR 0.53 (0.52)2 Interest-bearing net debt to EBITDA3 was 0.1x (n/a). Guidance for 2025 Kalmar expects its comparable operating profit margin to be above 12 percent in 2025. President & CEO Sami Niiranen: The first quarter of 2025 started off well for Kalmar. We delivered a solid quarter with good profitability despite lower sales volumes. The order intake for the quarter was strong. We successfully continued the execution of our strategy and were able to communicate several achievements supporting us on our way towards sustainable and profitable growth. Financial performance for the first quarter was solid. Our continued focus on commercial and operational excellence enabled us to deliver a resilient profitability of 12.0%, which is on a good level given the lower sales volume. The comparable operating profit amounted to EUR 48.0 million, and cash flow from operations before finance items and taxes was EUR 85.4 million. We have a healthy leverage ratio of 0.1x. We have progressed with the implementation of the driving excellence initiative and during the first quarter 2025, a run rate of approximately EUR 9 million of annualised gross efficiency improvements have been secured. Majority of the improvements secured so far originate from successful sourcing activities. We saw some early signs of demand recovery in the beginning of the year particularly in the distribution end customer segment, which has been subdued for a very long time. However, the world today is different than a few months ago with an increased level of uncertainties related to recent tariff announcements, geopolitical tensions and the risk of a global macroeconomic downturn. It is too early to draw any conclusions on how all this will affect our industry, the demand environment and global trade in the short term, but we will monitor the situation closely and have made different scenarios and are ready to act swiftly, if needed. In the first quarter, our orders received amounted to EUR 480 million. Equipment segment's orders received increased by 31% year-on-year, which also indicated positive activity in the market. We also saw positive momentum in Services order intake, driven by significant contract and upgrade projects. Our order book amounted to EUR 1,041 million, which is a 9% growth year-on-year. Sales amounted to EUR 398 million, impacted by slower market activity and the dip in order book in 2024. Services sales remained more stable than Equipment sales, providing resilience both in terms of sales and profitability. Services share of sales reached 36% in the first quarter and the comparable operating profit margin was at a record-high level of 19.0%. Growing services remains one of our key strategic focus areas. During the first quarter our focus on sustainable innovations was evident, and we announced that Kalmar has been granted EUR 20 million funding from Business Finland related to the launch of a five-year Move2Green R&D program. The goal of the Move2Green program led by Kalmar is to advance carbon neutrality in heavy material handling by developing the electric equipment portfolio and data-driven services. We also further expanded our electrical equipment offering by starting the sale of our third generation electric terminal tractor (OT2 EV) in North America. Additionally, we will expand our global delivery capability with the startup of electric empty container handler and heavy forklift truck production at our Shanghai facility, which is showing our ability to react in order to serve our customers globally. All in all, as we navigate the increasingly complex business environment of 2025 and the uncertainty of tariffs, our strategy, global footprint, and strong underlying foundations provide us with continued confidence. Our focus will remain the same by staying close to our customers and delivering on our targets. We believe in our ability to deliver the best heavy material handling solutions for our customers globally. With an installed base of 68,000 machines globally and a strong presence in over 120 countries for sales and services, our extensive reach remains a significant asset. This robust foundation fuels our active acceleration of future service growth through innovative offerings and digital solutions.
