Man lynched over suspicion of scooter theft in Gandhinagar
Ahmedabad: A 30-year-old man from Aravalli district was allegedly beaten to death by three men in Gandhinagar who suspected him of stealing a scooter. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, according to an FIR filed with Dabhoda police by the victim's elder brother, who accused the trio of lynching. The deceased, Kalpesh Katara, was a resident of Sunokh village in Bhiloda taluka of Aravalli. On Monday night, he reportedly went out with a friend from Vaktapur. The next morning, Kalpesh's family received a call from Dabhoda police station stating that he met with an accident and was admitted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. Later, they were informed that Kalpesh died during treatment. In the FIR, his elder brother Arvind Katara, a resident of Himmatnagar, stated: "My brother Kalpesh Katara was beaten up by Yash Darji and his aides Nikunj Patel and Sanjay Barot of Lawarpur village of Gandhinagar on suspicion of stealing a scooter. Due to the injuries inflicted by them, my brother died." That night, Darji, along with Patel and Barot, set out to trace the stolen vehicle. "Around 2am on Tuesday, they reportedly saw someone riding Darji's scooter near Gambhoi crossroads and attempted to intercept him. The rider tried to flee but fell into a roadside ditch after losing control of the vehicle, suffering injuries. The trio pulled him out of the ditch and then beat him to death," said inspector G K Bharwad of Dabhoda police. The trio caught Kalpesh and instead of handing him over to police immediately, they allegedly took him to the spot from where the scooter was stolen. The FIR states, "They took Kalpesh either to the garage or some other place and assaulted him, which caused severe injuries leading to his death." The accused informed the police about a thief being caught around 3.15am on Tuesday, and Kalpesh, who was unconscious, was shifted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. He died during treatment around 8:30am on Tuesday. A panel of doctors conducted the postmortem and noted multiple injuries on Kalpesh's body. Dabhoda police registered a case of murder under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for murder and abetment against the accused, along with charges of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as the victim belonged to a scheduled tribe. Firing, suicide note but no weapon found: Ahmedabad man's death puzzles police
A man was found dead at his home in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night after a firing sound was heard from his room while he was alone there. His death has left the police questioning whether it was a suicide or a murder as no weapon was found at the Tudia, a 41-year-old stockbroker from Ahmedabad's Bopal, was found dead under mysterious circumstances as, despite the recovery of a suicide note from his pocket, no weapon was found at the the time of the incident, Kalpesh's 14-year-old daughter was at home, while his wife Jinal had gone to manage her food stall. Two visitors had come to meet Kalpesh and were present downstairs. Earlier, Kalpesh had informed his daughter that two people would come to meet him and that he would speak with them in his room upstairs. However, when the visitors arrived, the meeting took place downstairs. Kalpesh spent about an hour speaking with the two men the discussion, Kalpesh went upstairs to his room, leaving the two visitors downstairs. Around 9:45 pm, a gunshot was heard from Kalpesh's room. His daughter immediately ran upstairs and found her father bleeding from a head injury. She quickly contacted her mother, Jinal, via a video call to inform her of the two visitors who had been downstairs fled the scene right after. Kalpesh's wife reached home soon after and with the help of her neighbours, rushed him to a private hospital, where doctors declared him were informed of the incident around 10 pm. A preliminary investigation revealed that Kalpesh had been shot in the head, but no weapon was found at the Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Neelam Goswami said, 'The police were informed about the firing at around 10 pm. Kalpesh was shot in the head, but no weapon has been recovered so far. A note found in his pocket mentions a friend, who has been taken into custody.'Locals had noted the number of a white Seltos car used by the two men who visited Kalpesh. Police suspect the men fled toward Surendranagar, and efforts are underway to locate investigations are ongoing, with teams from Bopal Police, SOG, LCB, and FSL involved. Authorities are examining Kalpesh's call records and CCTV footage to understand the circumstances leading to his death. Two other individuals have also been detained, reportedly in connection with supplying Kalpesh with a weapon he had requested days Goswami said, 'At this stage, it is unclear whether this was a case of suicide or murder. Mira Bhayandar Whistleblower: Bombay HC grants police protection
Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Tuesday directed the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) commissionerate to provide immediate police protection to whistleblower Raju Shah , after his son also received a threat call allegedly from Karachi, Pakistan. Shah received the first threat call from Karachi, Pakistan, in the first week of Feb after he exposed the alleged scam of developing plots which are under the Enemy Property Act in Mira Bhayandar. He filed a police complaint which was registered as a non cognisable (NC) complaint. However, earlier this month he received a second threat call and filed another NC. Shah had approached the court seeking directions for a detailed investigation into the threat calls. Last week Shah's son, Kalpesh, while visiting his ailing mother-in-law, also received a threat call. Kalpesh filed a complaint as well which was taken down as a NC. The Bhayandar cops were directed by Mira Bhayandar Judicial Magistrate to investigate these complaints and also observed that there was a possibility of economic offence.
