Jitendra Awhad objects to Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation's decision to shut meat shops on Independence Day

Thane: NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad on Sunday strongly objected to Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation's decision to shut all slaughterhouses in its jurisdiction on Independence Day . He announced his plan to visit the suburb and purchase meat on Aug 15. Addressing the media, Awhad questioned, "What kind of a spectacle is this and what is the basis of this restriction? Ironically, our freedom on what to consume is being snatched on the very day when we are celebrating our country's independence. I have made up my mind to go to the suburbs on that day and purchase meat. Initially, it was OBC vs Maratha, later Hindu vs Muslim, Marathi vs Hindi, and now we have this vegetarian vs non-vegetarian. BJP mayor needed to remove the stagnation in Kalyan-Dombivli's development, says BJP Maharashtra president Ravindra Chavan

Ravindra Chavan, BJP Maharashtra State President, emphasized the necessity of a BJP mayor to overcome Kalyan-Dombivli's developmental stagnation during Jatin Prajapati's induction KALYAN: To end the stagnation in the development of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, it is essential to have a BJP mayor, asserted BJP Maharashtra State President Ravindra Chavan during a party induction event held in Kalyan. The event marked the entry of well-known social worker Jatin Prajapati into the BJP, along with hundreds of his supporters from various political parties. Chavan stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a wave of development is sweeping across Maharashtra. This progress is encouraging political representatives and social workers from other parties to join the BJP. He urged party workers to work together in an organised manner to ensure the entire Kalyan region becomes a BJP stronghold. Jatin Prajapati, a respected name in Kalyan's social and political circles, has built a strong reputation over the past two decades through his dedicated social work. He contested the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation elections independently in 2010 and 2015, narrowly losing both times. Despite these setbacks, Prajapati continued his grassroots efforts through his organisation, Astitva Pratishthan. His close connection with the public, strong youth following, and wide reach made him a desirable candidate for the BJP. The party had been making efforts to bring him on board, which intensified after Ravindra Chavan became BJP State President. This led to Prajapati's formal induction into the party today. The induction event, held at Mahajanwadi Hall in Kalyan (West), was attended by BJP leaders including State President Ravindra Chavan, former Union Minister Kapil Patil, Kalyan District President Nandu Parab, MLA Sulabha Gaikwad, senior leader Jagannath Patil, State Women's Wing Secretary Priya Sharma, former City President Varun Patil, Premnath Mhatre, and Mandal President Ritesh Phadke. The event was also attended by several dignitaries, trade association representatives, and community leaders from the Gujarati, Marwari, and Maratha communities, along with strong participation from the BJP women's wing. Three KDMC officials held in same-day ACB raids in Thane; one sought Rs 60k for drainage clearance, others took Rs 20k for staff reinstatement

KALYAN: In a major anti-corruption crackdown, three officials from the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) were caught red-handed accepting bribes in two separate raids conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday. In the first case, the Thane ACB team arrested Chief Sanitation Inspector Vasant Deghulkar and Sanitation Inspector Sudarshan Jadhav while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 to reinstate a sick employee who had been on leave. The trap was laid at the KDMC office located in Sarvodaya Mall, following a complaint by the employee. In the second case, Junior Engineer Ravindra Ahire was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a petrol pump owner. According to the ACB, Ahire had demanded Rs 60,000 on 17 July in exchange for granting permission to build a drainage line for the petrol pump from the sewerage department. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught Ahire red-handed while taking the bribe in his car near Birla College in Kalyan. Authorities said both raids were carried out on the same day and investigations are ongoing.

MahaRERA starts verification of occupancy certificates submitted by developers

1 2 3 Pune: Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has initiated a statewide verification of 2,600 occupancy certificates (OCs) submitted by developers on its official portal. These certificates have been sent to respective planning authorities to ensure authenticity and prevent discrepancies or forgery, officials said on Saturday. The crackdown stems from 2022 Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) scam, in which 65 illegal buildings were constructed using forged documents, including fake 7/12 extracts (land records), fabricated building plans, and counterfeit MahaRERA registrations. The scam led to the arrest of 15 people, including developers and agents, and a Bombay High Court-ordered demolition drive that displaced over 6,500 residents. We are verifying these with the respective planning authorities," a senior MahaRERA official said. The OCs serve as completion certificates for real estate project. As per an earlier directive by the state's urban development department (UDD), verified commencement certificates (CCs), building plans, and OCs issued to developers must be sent by the planning authorities to MahaRERA's designated email if their websites are not integrated. While many developers have submitted CCs and building plans, OCs are often not uploaded by them. So far, only 136 OCs have been verified by the authorities, with the remaining still under process. Officials said integration of local authority websites with MahaRERA portal would have significantly expedited the process. "We've been pushing for website integration for months. Only Mumbai's municipal corporation has completed integration. Others have cited technical issues, which are now being addressed by the Maharashtra IT department," the official added. MahaRERA is also checking whether the submitted certificates indicate full or partial occupancy, after several instances of developers misrepresenting partial OCs as full approvals to mislead homebuyers. "While developers upload these certificates, we want to be doubly sure," the official said. MahaRERA has instructed planning authorities to verify OCs within a stipulated timeline. If no response is received within that period, the certificates will be deemed valid by default. However, any discrepancies found later will make the concerned authorities fully liable. "Homebuyers must have access to verified commencement and occupancy certificates before making a purchase decision. This verification drive is critical to restoring trust in Maharashtra's real estate sector," said a MahaRERA official. Many homebuyers complain that while project details are available through MahaRERA registration number, OCs are often missing. "Builders diligently upload CCs and building plans, but frequently skip uploading OCs, and local authorities don't follow up with them," an official noted. A Pune-based homebuyer said the developer claimed to possess an OC, but it wasn't available on the MahaRERA website. "It's confusing for buyers. The verification process should be simplified," said Priya P, a first-time investor. Under MahaRERA norms, developers must register projects before selling units, submit quarterly progress and financial reports, and upload verified OCs before withdrawing project funds from escrow accounts. This verification drive is seen as a key step in strengthening regulatory compliance and protecting buyers from fraud, added an official. Emergency rooms have also been activated in ward offices, with specially assigned multi-departmental teams. An NDRF team has already arrived to coordinate disaster response and awareness, the official said. Reaffirming the civic body's commitment to quality education, Goyal said the KDMC will launch five semi-English schools from the academic year 2025-26. "To ensure quality education, a guardian officer has been appointed for every municipal school," he added. The civic body also unveiled initiatives under the BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) method, introducing mural-based learning and improving school infrastructure, including repairs, furniture and timely distribution of books, uniforms and essentials. Under the "Nipun" programme, primary education will be prioritised, with digital quality monitoring through the Vinoba Bhave App and regular inspections by guardian officers, the civic body said.
