For Just Rs 10, Poor Students Can Now Earn A College Degree In Madhya Pradesh
Last Updated: Madhya Pradesh's Sambal Yojana allows children of daily wage earners to pursue college degrees for just Rs 10, covering all educational costs In a groundbreaking push for inclusive education, the children of daily wage earners and economically weaker families in Madhya Pradesh can now pursue a college degree for just Rs 10. Yes, you read that right; only ten rupees. Thanks to the state's ambitious Sambal Yojana, higher education is now within reach for thousands of underprivileged students who were once forced to abandon academic dreams due to financial hardship. Launched under the Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department, the Sambal Yojana aims to uplift children of registered labourers by covering the entire cost of their college education – from admission to tuition, and even essential academic expenses. The initiative is available to students holding a Sambal Card, which can be obtained through the local Gram Panchayat or via online registration. 'This scheme is a game-changer for families who couldn't even imagine sending their children to college," said Dr Anand Tiwari, Principal of the Girls' College in Sagar. Under the Sambal Yojana, we're admitting students for just Rs 10, and the government sends the funds directly to the college to cover all other costs, he explained. Apart from Sambal, the government is also running other supportive schemes such as the Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana and the Covid-19 Bal Kalyan Yojana, ensuring that students from vulnerable backgrounds face no barriers in continuing their education. For many parents engaged in manual labour, the financial hurdle has long been the reason their children couldn't pursue studies beyond Class 12. That obstacle, however, is rapidly being dismantled. Jan Bhagidari Samiti, supports 60 such students annually by covering their entire educational expenses," he said. With state support and a mere Rs 10 in hand, children from the most marginalised sections of society can now step into a college campus, study alongside their peers, and carve out a better future for themselves. 'If I talk about the bold decisions taken by our government in the last 11 years, it will be difficult to summarise all of them in a press conference… The country had accepted that it was not possible to abrogate Article 370, but the Modi government removed it from Jammu and Kashmir. The voter turnout in the Lok Sabha was 58.46%, while the turnout in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections was 63%. This change has come due to the bold decision of the Modi government," he said. Flagship Schemes For Poor The BJP chief credited the Centre's flagship schemes, such as the Garib Kalyan Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, and Ujala Yojana, for transforming the lives of poor people in the country. People's participation has significantly increased under the Modi government because of the strong trust in leadership," he added. Nadda said the common person in India stood in front of banks for hours and supported the demonetisation decision of the Modi government. 'If I talk about demonetisation, I remember how our political parties were instigating the public to take advantage. You may have forgotten, but I do not forget…. When there is trust in the leadership, the public supports it." He also highlighted the National Education Policy (NEP) as a result of one of the widest and most inclusive consultation processes in the nation's history. 'Our COVID-19 management was exemplary, with the world's largest and fastest vaccination programme. The way India responded to COVID-19, no other country could do it. In India, PM Modi fought COVID-19 with the support of the government. India gave 220 crore free double doses of vaccines," he said. 'If we talk about Operation Ganga, PM Modi proactively brought back Indian citizens from Ukraine. Not only Indians but people from other countries also came out of Ukraine showing our flags," he added. Growing Indian Economy Nadda said in the last 11 years, India jumped to the fifth position from the tenth position in the world's economies. 'Our Prime Minister dreams that India becomes a Vishwa Guru, the third-largest economy in the world and a 5 trillion dollar economy. To fulfil this dream, we will have to increase exports; only then will there be growth in the agricultural, service, and industrial sectors. Our biggest problem was that the logistics cost of our country was 16%, China was at 8%, and America and other European countries were at 12%. Now, the kind of roads we have made, our logistics cost has decreased by 6% and by next year, we will come to 9%…Our exports will increase, we will become more competitive and our country will become a Vishwa Guru," he said.
