Double Olympic champion Lomachenko announces retirement

Ukraine's double Olympic gold medallist and three-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko announced his retirement from boxing on Thursday at the age of 37 and more than a year after his last fight. Lomachenko beat Australian George Kambosos Jr with an 11th round stoppage in Perth last May to claim the vacant IBF lightweight belt. The 2008 featherweight and 2012 lightweight Olympic champion wraps up his professional career with a record of 18 wins and three defeats, with 12 knockouts, after an amateur record of 396 wins and only one defeat. He was unified lightweight champion and also won world titles as a featherweight and super-featherweight. "I'm grateful for every victory and every defeat both in the ring and in life," Lomachenko said in a video message on social media.

George Kambosos Jr. vs. Jake Wyllie live results, round-by-round updates, ring walks, start time for ex-champ's return

Uncrowned has George Kambosos Jr. vs. Jake Wyllie live results, round-by-round updates, highlights, ring walks and start time for the Kambosos vs. Wyllie fight card on Saturday morning at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Former unified lightweight champion Kambosos makes his super lightweight debut in an all-Australian clash against late-replacement opponent Wyllie. Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) upset Teofimo Lopez to win the WBA, WBO and IBF lightweight title in New York in 2021. Since then, Kambosos has fallen short in three out of his past four fights — two defeats at the hands of Devin Haney, as well as a stoppage loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko in his most recent bout. A win for Kambosos on Saturday will likely see him return to New York in June in a bid to become a two-division world champion against IBF titlist Richardson Hitchins. For the big-punching 24-year-old Wyllie (16-1, 15 KOs), Saturday represents the opportunity of a lifetime. Kambosos was set to face Daud Yordan until the Indonesian was forced to withdraw with illness just five days prior to fight night. Wyllie earned a career-best win this past November when he stopped Dylan Emery to pick up an Australian title. Wylie also holds a victory over Dana Coolwell, who boxing fans may remember as Bruce Carrington's opponent on the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul undercard. In the night's chief support, Skye Nicolson (12-0, 1 KO) defends her WBC featherweight title against mandatory challenger Tiara Brown (18-0, 11 KOs). Nicolson was last in action this past October when she outclassed Raven Chapman to successfully retain her championship. Elsewhere on the show, 2024 Olympian Teremoana Teremoana (6-0, 6 KOs) looks to extend his 100% knockout streak against James Singh (12-5, 11 KOs). Kambosos vs. Wyllie begins at 4 a.m. ET on DAZN, with main event ring walks expected at 8 a.m. ET. Follow all of the action with Uncrowned's live results and play-by-play of the main card below. Super lightweight: George Kambosos vs. Jake Wyllie WBC featherweight title: Skye Nicolson vs. Tiara Brown Heavyweight: Teremoana Teremoana vs. James Singh WBA bantamweight title: Chernkea Johnson vs. Nina Hughes Light heavyweight: Imam Khataev vs. Durval Elias Palacio

Kambosos Jr laughs off young rival's fighting words

If George Kambosos Jr wasn't 63.5kg, his bout against Jake Wyllie might be considered a real-life David versus Goliath battle. Instead Kambosos views Saturday night's tussle in Sydney a master-versus-apprentice showdown after Wyllie pledged to end the former world lightweight champion's career. Wyllie is talking up his chances despite only getting the call to fight Kambosos - rather than watch from the bleaches at Qudos Bank Arena - late last Sunday night. "It was about 9:15 and I was half asleep," Wyllie recalled on Thursday. "I was asleep and sort of rolled over. I thought, 'Jeez, who's calling me this late?' "And it was my manager and I thought I better call him back. He said, 'George Kambosos's opponent's out. Are you willing to step up and take this on?' "And without any hesitation, I said, yes, my word I am. I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night. It's so exciting." Now the fearless youngster is vowing to spring one of boxing's great boilovers to deny Kambosos (21-3, 10KOs) a shot at undefeated American Richardson Hitchins in New York later this year to become a two-division world champion. "I have true belief," Wyllie said. "I stay active. I'm always fit and healthy so that when these opportunities arise, I can drop the hammer down. "I'm here to do a job on Kambosos." Wyllie has won 16 of his 17 professional fights, 15 by knockout, but Kambosos insists the 24-year-old is "out of his depth" and dreaming if he truly thinks he will beat him. "There's a difference between fighting domestic level and having the Australian title and I've been fighting the best of the best," Kambosos said. "People say they see holes, but there's a difference between the elite and pinnacle where I have been for so many years fighting to the level he's been fighting. 🗣️ "I respect Jake for stepping in but there's a difference fighting at domestic level and World level. When you deep dive on the guys he's knocked out, they are plums!" - @georgekambosos #KambososWyllie | @DAZNBoxing — Matchroom Boxing (@MatchroomBoxing) March 20, 2025 "Yes, he's got a nice knockout ratio, a good record. I respect that, I respect the kid. "But when you deep dive on the guys he's knocked out, they are all plums. It's easy knocking out plums, let's be honest." Kambosos is stepping up a division to super-lightweight in a high-stakes homecoming but bristled when asked if he would retire if he lost. "I don't even think about that. I ain't losing to no Jake Wyllie, put it this way. "You're gonna be f***ed up if you think I'm gonna lose to Jack Wyllie. Simple as that." Two Australian women will defend world titles on the undercard. Skye Nicolson (12-0, 1KO) will take on feisty American police officer Tiara Brown (18-0, 11KOs) looking to retain the WBC featherweight belt. And Cherneka Johnson (16-2, 6KOs) squares off again with Brit Nina Hughes (6-1, 2KOs) in a rematch of their controversial WBA bantamweight title fight in Perth last May. The ring announcer mistakenly gave the bout to Hughes before Johnson was awarded the strap. "That night was rollercoaster of emotions and I have no doubt that Nina went through the same sort of similar emotions," Johnson said on Thursday. "I just don't want that to happen again."

Kambosos Jr says his no-show all a misunderstanding

One of world boxing's biggest promoters has accused George Kambosos Jr of a "lack of respect" after the Australian superstar failed to front for a pre-fight face-off in Sydney. Kambosos was a conspicuous no-show from a scheduled meeting with his rival, countryman Jake Wyllie, at Qudos Bank Arena. Wyllie has stepped up on less than a week's notice to replace Daud Yordan on Saturday night after the Indonesian senator was forced out of the slated super-lightweight bout on medical grounds. Eddie Hearn from Matchroom promotions was caught off guard by Kambosos' failure to front on Wednesday, with all other fighters on the card arriving to fulfil their media responsibilities. "It's a lack of respect. I don't want to stoke any fires, but it's very disrespectful," Hearn said. But Kambosos claimed his absence was just a misunderstanding after turning up later at another Matchroom promotion to speak with youths at suburban Sydney gym. "What face-off? No one told me about no face-off," the former unified world lightweight champion told AAP after arriving in his flash Audi. What a turnout in the community at the Legends Gym in Sydney 🔥 @georgekambosos @skyebnic @EddieHearn Cherneka Johnson #KambososWyllie | @DAZNBoxing — Matchroom Boxing (@MatchroomBoxing) March 19, 2025 But Kambosos's father Jim said his son was too busy preparing for Saturday's fight. Wyllie took Kambosos' snub in his stride, declaring "I've got him on the back foot already". "I'm not worried at all," he told AAP. "I just think that if he wants to play these little silly things, it's up to him. "I'll just go to the community thing and we'll do it (face off) there. It is what it is. All that matters is what happens in the ring." Wyllie has an impressive 16-from-17 record, with 15 of his victories coming via knockout. The 24-year-old is vowing to shatter Kambosos's dream of landing a possible world title shot against unbeaten American Richardson Hitchins with a win over Wyllie. "We've got this opportunity and I've been doing everything right, so there's no reason why I wouldn't take this fight and I'm going in to it fully confident that I can do a great job," he said. "Everyone goes on about the knockouts but, look, the knockouts just come. I don't go looking for them. It just happens naturally. "So I really believe that George hasn't been in there with a puncher like myself and I think on Saturday night I'll show that." Kambosos (21-3, 10KOs) is stepping up a weight division in a high-risk home-coming. The 31-year-old hasn't fought in Sydney since 2016. And after relinquishing his IBF and WBO straps to American Devan Haney in his bold bid to become Australia's first undisputed world champion in the four-belt era, then losing to Ukraine great Vasyl Lomachenko, Kambosos knows he is rolling the dice.
