No talks on ‘appointed' deputy president's post, says PKR Youth chief
PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim said the creation of such a post has not been discussed. PETALING JAYA : PKR has not discussed the creation of an appointed post of deputy president purportedly proposed by Nurul Izzah Anwar, says youth chief Kamil Munim. 'As far as I know, such a post has not been discussed,' he told FMT. This comes after Rafizi Ramli, who lost the race for the PKR deputy presidency to Nurul Izzah, claimed that she had proposed the creation of the post for him to fill. Rafizi said he turned down the offer, which was made when they met before the PKR elections, adding that he would not be interested even if there was a post for an 'appointed party president'. Nurul Izzah did not confirm or deny making the proposal, but said she simply wanted to help the party close ranks and bolster its values after the internal elections. The newly elected PKR deputy president also said: 'I believe that matters spoken in confidence between friends should remain between them.' Meanwhile, PKR central leadership council member Nor Azrina Surip said Rafizi's decision to turn down the purported offer should be respected by all. 'The party's struggle does not depend on any one individual or group,' said the Kedah PKR chief.

PKR Youth chief makes case for accepting ‘professional' Zafrul
Kamil Munim, head of PKR Youth and an aide to party president Anwar Ibrahim, said Tengku Zafrul Aziz could offer added value to PKR. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The head of PKR Youth, Kamil Munim, has stated support for accepting former Umno leader Tengku Zafrul Aziz into PKR, saying the move would boost support for the party. Kamil said PKR should be open to taking in professional figures like Tengku Zafrul; the decision would show that the party was continuing to expand its horizons as a mature party, reflecting its readiness to continue leading the nation. 'I believe that Tengku Zafrul joining PKR, which is understood to have been in discussion for more than a year, would allow us to attract support from various quarters as we build a more progressive, just and inclusive nation,' he said in a post on X. 'This is in line with PKR's commitment to politics based on ideas, expertise and integrity. Tengku Zafrul's experiences can offer some added value to PKR,' said Kamil, who is a political secretary to PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation as an Umno member yesterday and stated his intention to join PKR. This ruffled some feathers within his former party, with Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki warning PKR against breeding disharmony between the government allies. PKR central leadership council member Adam Adli was quoted by Malaysiakini as expressing concern that ties with Umno would become tense because of Tengku Zafrul's decision. However, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party will consider the input of its government allies as well as PKR's own grassroots in evaluating membership applications, including that of Tengku Zafrul.

Campaign maturely, PKR Youth man urges Rafizi
Fadzli Roslan urged PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli to 'present sound arguments, fresh proposals, and unifying ideas'. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Penang PKR Youth chief Fadzli Roslan has urged Rafizi Ramli to exercise greater maturity in his campaign to retain his position as PKR deputy president. Fadzli said Rafizi's open criticism against several party leaders, including newly-elected PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim, could divide the party. 'This could harm the harmony and unity of the party, especially when the spirit of democracy, openness, and mutual respect should be celebrated during this party election,' he said in a Facebook post. Fadzli, who is also vying for a seat in the central PKR Youth leadership council, said many youth wing candidates had demonstrated political maturity in their campaigns. He said he has not heard any personal attack or baseless accusation being thrown around by his competitors. However, he said 'Rafizi's approach to his campaign appears to be inconsistent with the healthy democratic spirit which we often advocate in PKR'. He said slanderous and outdated modes of politics should be rejected. 'Present sound arguments, fresh proposals, and unifying ideas to allow grassroots to evaluate you as a candidate,' he urged Rafizi. Earlier, Selangor PKR Youth chief Izuan Kasim urged Rafizi not to drag the youth wing into the heated contest for the PKR deputy president's post. Izuan's remarks came after Rafizi accused the current youth leadership of lacking the energy and resolve shown by previous generations. Rafizi, who is also economy minister, is being challenged by Nurul Izzah Anwar for the PKR deputy president's post. The PKR central leadership elections will be held on May 23.

Don't drag youth wing into PKR deputy president battle, Rafizi told
Selangor PKR Youth chief Izuan Kasim said the main objective of PKR's polls is to invigorate the party's branches ahead of the 16th general election. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Selangor PKR Youth chief Izuan Kasim has urged party leaders not to drag the party's youth wing into the PKR deputy presidential contest. His remarks follow criticism from incumbent deputy president Rafizi Ramli, who accused the current youth leadership of lacking the energy and resolve shown by previous generations. In a statement today, Izuan, who is also a candidate for the deputy chief of PKR Youth at next week's election, defended newly elected PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim. Kamil, an aide to party president Anwar Ibrahim in the latter's capacity as the finance minister, won uncontested. 'Instead of questioning why Kamil won unopposed, the real issue is why no one from Rafizi's team stepped forward to challenge him,' Izuan said. 'This election should be a platform to offer leadership, not to create division. 'Let us not forget the main objective – to invigorate the party's branches ahead of the 16th general election.' Izuan added that Kamil's unopposed victory reflected a consensus among division and branch leaders that he was the best candidate to lead the youth wing for the 2025-2028 term. On Wednesday, Rafizi urged the youth wing to revive the 'fighting spirit' of its past leaders, warning that blindly following senior figures would harm the party's future. Over 280 election complaints reviewed PKR election committee (JPP) chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said they have reviewed more than 280 complaints related to the party's internal elections. These complaints involved all stages of the election process – from nominations and campaigning to division-level results, reported Bernama 'I deny any claim that we are ignoring the complaints. Every one of them is being reviewed and action has been taken on some,' she said in response to criticism from Rafizi. She described Rafizi's view that the complaints were being mishandled as his personal opinion. Rafizi had earlier accused Zaliha of failing to manage election irregularities at the divisional level. PKR's congress, including elections for the Youth and Wanita wings, will be held from May 22–24 in Johor Bahru. The central leadership elections will be held on May 23. Anwar's daughter, Nurul Izzah, is challenging Rafizi for the deputy president's post. Rafizi, who is the economy minister and Pandan MP, has said he would quit his Cabinet post and be a regular MP if he lost the post to Nurul Izzah. There are 12 contestants for the four vice-president's posts, including the four incumbents, federal ministers Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Chang Lih Kang as well as menteris besar Amirudin Shari and Aminuddin Harun. Anwar retained the PKR presidency unopposed for his third and final term.
