Don't drag youth wing into PKR deputy president battle, Rafizi told

PETALING JAYA : Selangor PKR Youth chief Izuan Kasim has urged party leaders not to drag the party's youth wing into the PKR deputy presidential contest.
His remarks follow criticism from incumbent deputy president Rafizi Ramli, who accused the current youth leadership of lacking the energy and resolve shown by previous generations.
In a statement today, Izuan, who is also a candidate for the deputy chief of PKR Youth at next week's election, defended newly elected PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim.
Kamil, an aide to party president Anwar Ibrahim in the latter's capacity as the finance minister, won uncontested.
'Instead of questioning why Kamil won unopposed, the real issue is why no one from Rafizi's team stepped forward to challenge him,' Izuan said.
'This election should be a platform to offer leadership, not to create division.
'Let us not forget the main objective – to invigorate the party's branches ahead of the 16th general election.'
Izuan added that Kamil's unopposed victory reflected a consensus among division and branch leaders that he was the best candidate to lead the youth wing for the 2025-2028 term.
On Wednesday, Rafizi urged the youth wing to revive the 'fighting spirit' of its past leaders, warning that blindly following senior figures would harm the party's future.
Over 280 election complaints reviewed
PKR election committee (JPP) chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said they have reviewed more than 280 complaints related to the party's internal elections.
These complaints involved all stages of the election process – from nominations and campaigning to division-level results, reported Bernama
'I deny any claim that we are ignoring the complaints. Every one of them is being reviewed and action has been taken on some,' she said in response to criticism from Rafizi.
She described Rafizi's view that the complaints were being mishandled as his personal opinion.
Rafizi had earlier accused Zaliha of failing to manage election irregularities at the divisional level.
PKR's congress, including elections for the Youth and Wanita wings, will be held from May 22–24 in Johor Bahru.
The central leadership elections will be held on May 23.
Anwar's daughter, Nurul Izzah, is challenging Rafizi for the deputy president's post. Rafizi, who is the economy minister and Pandan MP, has said he would quit his Cabinet post and be a regular MP if he lost the post to Nurul Izzah.
There are 12 contestants for the four vice-president's posts, including the four incumbents, federal ministers Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Chang Lih Kang as well as menteris besar Amirudin Shari and Aminuddin Harun.
Anwar retained the PKR presidency unopposed for his third and final term.

'Insya-Allah, MCMC will prepare a report on this matter, and the Communications Ministry will present it to the Cabinet for further discussion,' he said. Small F&B traders can use subsidised LPG without permit until Oct, says domestic trade minister
PUTRAJAYA, June 5 — Micro and small-scale traders in the food and beverage sector may continue using subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders without a special permit until the amendments to the Control of Supplies Regulations (PPKB) 2021 are finalised this October. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said no legal action will be taken against this group of traders during the transition period. 'Small and micro food and beverage traders will be allowed to obtain supplies of subsidised LPG cylinders without the need for a scheduled controlled goods permit,' he told a press conference here. He said the Cabinet, in its meeting today, agreed to the ministry's proposal to amend the regulations, which initially came into effect on Oct 15, 2021, under the previous administration. Armizan added that the amendments would, among others, take into account the specific needs of micro and small-scale food and beverage traders, while also ensuring legal clarity in terms of compliance and enforcement. Armizan said the ministry aims to finalise the amendments once Op Gasak concludes on Oct 31. He added that enforcement against leakages involving illegal decanting activities and misuse by industrial users under Op Gasak would continue. 'The Op Gasak report will serve as a basis for us to determine the way forward in ensuring we have suitable legal provisions that are clear and take into account the needs of those providing services to the public, especially food and beverage businesses,' he said. He added that the amendment process will be coordinated through a technical committee established on May 1, chaired by the ministry's secretary-general, and involving relevant ministries and agencies. 'In addition to government representatives, we are also engaging a range of stakeholders. In fact, I will be holding an engagement session with 10 food and beverage business associations tomorrow. 'We welcome any proposals to ensure that these amendments are truly practical and beneficial for the intended target groups,' he said. The Control of Supplies Regulations (Amendment) 2021 limits the ownership and use of subsidised LPG exceeding 42 kilogrammes at any one time without a scheduled controlled goods permit. — Bernama

Penang offers 5pc housing discount for Indian Muslims under new Madani campaign
GEORGE TOWN, June 5 — The Penang state government will offer a five per cent discount to Indian Muslims for the purchase of residential and commercial units under the newly introduced Madani Home Ownership Campaign (MOC), part of the Madani Inclusive Property Sector Catalyst Policy. State Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo said the discount would be available throughout the campaign period, from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, to boost the sale of such properties. 'In addition, the Penang State Housing Board has introduced a special category, Rumah MutiaraKu Type D (RMKu D), with a ceiling price of RM400,000, targeted at households earning up to RM15,000 a month. 'This category is not allowed to be sold on the open market and cannot be used to fulfil affordable housing compliance requirements,' he said during a press conference at Komtar today, alongside State Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye. Sundarajoo also announced a reduction in contribution rates for developers who do not physically build RMKu Type A or B units-from RM120,000 to RM100,000 in areas under the Penang Island City Council, and from RM120,000 to RM72,500 under the Seberang Perai City Council. To ensure cash flow and timely delivery of RMKu units, Sundarajoo said the previous 20 per cent open market release limit has been increased to 50 per cent. However, a release fee of 10 per cent of the selling price will be imposed. He added that upgrade packages for open market units will be capped at 50 per cent of the base price, and such packages will not be allowed for PN1 units, to maintain transparency in compliance with the RMKu policy. Other incentives under the policy include waivers on the sale or purchase charges of RMKu A and B quotas for developers who do not meet the price-controlled unit requirements, as well as exemptions from conducting a social impact assessment report. Sundarajoo said the policy, which was approved during the state planning committee meeting No. 5/2025 on June 3, is expected to have a positive impact by boosting home ownership rates, encouraging approval of strategic new projects and fostering a more inclusive, sustainable and competitive property development ecosystem. 'We are confident the implementation of the MOC policy will help raise home ownership levels among Penangites. The state government will continue to review, refine and gather feedback from industry players and the public to improve and update these guidelines,' he said. Previous initiatives introduced by the state include the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) and the Penang State Property Sector Stimulus Policy 2020, which was extended four times, most recently as HOC 3.0 PLUS, which ended on Dec 31 last year. — Bernama
