Factory worker dies after motorcycle hits dog on Kampar road

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — A factory worker died after losing control of his motorcycle when he collided with a dog crossing the road on Jalan Malim Nawar-Kota Baru in Kampar, Perak this morning. The incident occurred at approximately 7:35am, claiming the life of 42-year-old Mohd Safaril Mohamed Anuar, who was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. Kampar District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud said Mohd Safaril was riding a Honda EX5 motorcycle from his home in Perumahan Awam 2, Malim Nawar, en route to his workplace in Kota Baru. 'Upon reaching the location, a dog suddenly crossed the road from left to right. 'The victim was unable to avoid the animal, resulting in a collision that caused him to lose control,' he told Sinar Harian. Preliminary investigations confirmed no other vehicles were involved, and no foul play was suspected. Inspection of the motorcycle revealed damage to the front mudguard and the left side coverset. The victim's body was transported to Kampar Hospital, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

MCA-DAP merger won't ever happen, says Loke

DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said he does not see the possibility of a merger between his party and MCA ever happening. PETALING JAYA : A suggestion by a DAP MP that MCA be dissolved and merged with DAP was dismissed today by DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook. 'I don't see the possibility of that happening,' he was quoted as saying after attending a constituency event in Seremban today. Loke said the merger suggestion, from Kampar MP Chong Zhemin, represented Chong's personal opinion. It had never been discussed within the party, Sinar Harian quoted him as saying. 'He is free to express his opinion, but firstly, to me, this is not the party's stance, and secondly, I don't see the possibility of that happening,' he was quoted as saying. Chong's remarks were made amid a slanging match between Umno and Bersatu, during which Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said Umno should be dissolved and absorbed into Bersatu. Picking up the point, Chong said the idea would be more fitting for MCA which has only two parliamentary seats, both in Malay-majority areas. 'Even then, they won only because of support from Umno voters,' he said, adding that MCA should return those seats to Umno. Chong's proposal was rejected by MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong, who said the two parties were like oil and water, fundamentally different in ideology and political approach.

South Philadelphia's Kampar closed after fire, plans to reopen, restaurant says

Kampar, a James Beard Award-nominated Malaysian restaurant in South Philadelphia, is temporarily closed after a fire, according to its Instagram account. In a post on Sunday, the Bella Vista restaurant says in part, "We have to close temporarily to fix the damages that the fire caused. We are working hard to get it done as quickly as possible and are fortunate to have some amazing contractors helping us do so." The bar is destroyed, the post says, but "our Guinness sign survived and is still a symbol of invigorating strength." "We want to be open again soon and will keep you all posted," the post from Sunday morning says. The restaurant first posted that it was closed due to a fire on Saturday and also shared a fundraising campaign for staff. As of Sunday afternoon, about $6,100 has been raised online. Kampar is the "next chapter of the James Beard nominated Saté Kampar and a platform for underrepresented food," according to its website. It's a James Beard Award semifinalist this year for Best New Bar. Two resident chefs are currently working at Kampar, the website says — Reuben Asaram and Cote Tapia-Marmugi.
