Aamir Khan confirms ‘big-scale' superhero action film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, to enter production in mid-2026
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has confirmed he's working on a big-scale superhero action film with virtuoso Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj. In a closed press interaction in Mumbai ahead of Sitare Zameen Par, Aamir talked about his upcoming projects, which includes a cameo in Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie. His Tamil debut of sorts, Aamir's appearance in Coolie will be followed by a full-fledged collaboration with Kanagaraj, best known for his distinctive action films Kaithi, Master and Vikram. Aamir's bonafides in the genre ranges from the 90s bruisers Ghulam and Baazi to big-ticket superhits like Ghajini and Dhoom 3. On his film with Kanagaraj, Aamir said, 'Lokesh and I are doing a film together. It's a superhero film — a big-scale action outing. The film will begin in the second half of 2026. We have both signed it. I cannot reveal anything further.' The actor denied chatter about PK 2, a sequel to his 2024 alien comedy, PK. 'That's a rumour. This is the first time I am hearing about it.' The 59-year-old star, however, confirmed a biopic on pioneering filmmaker and the father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke. It will be Aamir's first historical biopic in over 20 years, after Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005). 'The Dadasaheb Phalke biopic is happening. Raju (director Rajkumar Hirani) and I are working on it,' Aamir confirmed. Beyond these projects in his immediate pipeline, Aamir is also gearing up for an ambitious adaptation of the Indian epic Mahabharata. The actor, as he has done before, compared the process to performing a 'yagna', demanding devotion and perseverance. 'Mahabharat has been my dream for the last 25 years. A subject like that will require intense preparation. Unless I have walked that path and created an initial foundation, I cannot say if my dream will come true. But I am going to begin work on it.' Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitare Zameen Par is releasing in Indian theatres on June 20. The uplifting comedy sports-drama stars Aamir as the irascible, hotheaded coach of a team of neurodivergent basketball players. The film is a remake of the 2018 Spanish movie Champions.
