Plea in HC for nod to set up miniatures of Murugan abodes
Madurai: Hindu Munnani state secretary S Muthukumar moved Madras high court on Friday seeking a direction to the authorities to permit them to set up temporary miniatures of the six abodes of Lord Murugan and perform pujas ahead of the Lord Murugan devotees' conference in Madurai on June 22. Justice B Pugalendhi directed Madurai city police to file a counter, and adjourned the hearing to June 9. Muthukumar said Hindu Munnani decided to arrange for a gathering of devotees of Lord Murugan in the name of 'Muruga Bakthargalin Aanmeega Maanadu' at Amma Thidal near Pandikoil ring road. Miniatures of the six abodes of Murugan (Arupadai Veedugal) would be installed as a temporary structure within the conference premises to let devotees get darshan of the lord's six abodes at one place from June 10 to June 22. They also planned to perform pujas at the miniature abodes from 10am to 12pm and 5pm to 7pm, and distribute prasadams to devotees. Sthalapuranam of the six abodes would be displayed and explained to the devotees. On the day of the conference, devotees would chant Kanda Shashti Kavacham and Thiruppugazh. Spiritual and cultural programmes would also be held. A representation was made to the city police for using sound amplifiers. However, police rejected permission for it as well as for setting up miniature structures of the six abodes. The petitioner said police regularly grant permission for using sound amplifiers in Amma Thidal for various public meetings. Hence he moved court challenging the rejection order. Hindu Munnani moves High Court seeking grant of permission for setting up temporary miniatures of Lord Murugan's six abodes
Hindu Munnani has moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the authorities concerned to grant permission for setting up temporary miniatures of the six abodes of Lord Murugan at 'Muruga Bakthargalin Aanmeega Maanadu' scheduled be held in Madurai. Justice B. Pugalendhi directed the Madurai City Police to file a counter affidavit. The court was hearing the petition filed by Hindu Munnani's State Secretary S. Muthukumar of Madurai. The petitioner said Hindu Munnani had decided to arrange a gathering of devotees of Lord Murugan on June 22 for the event in Amma Thidal near Pandi Kovil Ring Road. Miniatures of Arupadai Veedugal will be installed, pujas will be performed and prasadam will be distributed to the devotees, he said, adding that sthalapuranam of the six abodes will be displayed. Apart from this, the devotees will be chanting Kanda Shashti Kavacham and Thiruppugazh at the conference. Spiritual and cultural programmes will be held. The place of gathering was a private land and the land owner had given his consent, he said. A representation was made to the Madurai City Police seeking permission to use sound amplifiers during the event. There was no response from the police. The police have been regularly granting permission for using sound amplifiers in Amma Thidal for public meetings. A representation was also made for arranging darshan of the miniatures from June 10 to June 22. The police rejected permission for usage of microphone sets and to set up miniatures and temporary models, the petitioner said. He alleged that the police team came to the place where the miniatures were being made and threatened the workers and volunteers asking them not proceed with the making of the miniatures. The petitioner sought a direction to the police to grant permission to set up the miniatures of the six abodes of Lord Murugan at the venue and conduct the pujas. The court posted the matter for hearing on June 9.
