Hindu Munnani has moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the authorities concerned to grant permission for setting up temporary miniatures of the six abodes of Lord Murugan at 'Muruga Bakthargalin Aanmeega Maanadu' scheduled be held in Madurai.
Justice B. Pugalendhi directed the Madurai City Police to file a counter affidavit. The court was hearing the petition filed by Hindu Munnani's State Secretary S. Muthukumar of Madurai.
The petitioner said Hindu Munnani had decided to arrange a gathering of devotees of Lord Murugan on June 22 for the event in Amma Thidal near Pandi Kovil Ring Road. Miniatures of Arupadai Veedugal will be installed, pujas will be performed and prasadam will be distributed to the devotees, he said, adding that sthalapuranam of the six abodes will be displayed.
Apart from this, the devotees will be chanting Kanda Shashti Kavacham and Thiruppugazh at the conference. Spiritual and cultural programmes will be held. The place of gathering was a private land and the land owner had given his consent, he said.
A representation was made to the Madurai City Police seeking permission to use sound amplifiers during the event. There was no response from the police. The police have been regularly granting permission for using sound amplifiers in Amma Thidal for public meetings. A representation was also made for arranging darshan of the miniatures from June 10 to June 22.
The police rejected permission for usage of microphone sets and to set up miniatures and temporary models, the petitioner said. He alleged that the police team came to the place where the miniatures were being made and threatened the workers and volunteers asking them not proceed with the making of the miniatures.
The petitioner sought a direction to the police to grant permission to set up the miniatures of the six abodes of Lord Murugan at the venue and conduct the pujas. The court posted the matter for hearing on June 9.

EPS, Murugan say Stalin using delimitation issue as a diversionary tactic

EPS, Murugan say Stalin using delimitation issue as a diversionary tactic Times News Network Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Friday the AIADMK will never allow Tamil Nadu 's representation in Parliament to be reduced. Hitting back at chief minister M K Stalin for alleging that AIADMK was silent on the Centre's Census plans, thereby complicit in BJP's plans to reduce TN's parliamentary representation, EPS said that Stalin should stop using the delimitation row as a distraction to hide his "govt's failures and scams.'' "We will never allow our representation to be reduced or our voice to be silenced. In 2027, or whenever delimitation may come, AIADMK — back in power — will fiercely defend Tamil Nadu's rightful voice and future," he said on X. Alleging that Stalin speaks of fair delimitation while presiding over the most unfair, corrupt, and dynastic regime Tamil Nadu has ever seen, EPS demanded that the CM should first delimit corruption. "First, delimit the TASMAC loot. Delimit the drug mafia. Delimit illicit liquor. Delimit rowdyism. Delimit the corruption of your ministers. And most importantly, delimit your family's arrogance and stranglehold over Tamil Nadu," he said. "The people of Tamil Nadu are tired of your drama and crocodile tears," he added. Union minister L Murugan also said Stalin should stop using the issue to divert people's attention. "Stalin has begun scaremongering to hide his govt's failure to control crimes," he said. Murugan said that even after Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified that TN would not be affected by the delimitation exercise, Stalin was constantly trying to play politics through a bundle of lies.
