All schemes started by PM Modi during his stint as Gujarat CM have been immensely successful: Bhupendra Patel launches annual state-wide school enrolment drive
All the public interest schemes started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat have been 'immensely successful' and the efficacy of their results is there for all to see, CM Bhupendra Patel said on Thursday as he launched the 23rd edition of the annual state-wide enrolment drive – Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani – from Divda PM Shri School in Kadana taluka of Mahisagar district. While enrolling students to Balvatika, primary school and Class IX, and welcoming them to the school by gifting them educational kits, the CM said, 'When the PM (Modi) started the school entrance festival in 2003, the drop out rate was around 35%. This has been reduced to 0.85%, i.e. less than 1%. The state government has taken sufficient care to ensure that the children admitted to the school do not drop out of their studies.' He further said, 'The government stands by such children through the Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati schemes to ensure that they do not face any inconvenience in their studies due to financial problems in their family.' Patel said the government has also taken care that the students come to school regularly. 'If a child is absent for even a day, the teachers go to their house and find out the reason behind it… if there is public participation in government schemes, everyone benefits and 100% results are obtained,' he added while appealing to the parents to be active in the School Management Committees (SMC). The CM said Gujarat is committed to 100% enrolment of children and all-round development through quality education while taking forward the annual enrolment drive started by the PM. In Ahmedabad city, Minister of State for Cooperation Jagdish Vishwakarma flagged off the drive by admitting students at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run Kankaria Gujarati School Number 1 and grant-in-aid Shri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya in Maninagar. As per the data of Ahmedabad Municipal School Board, as of June 25, the total number of children admitted in Balvatika in Ahmedabad city for the year 2025-26 is 13,427, which includes 6,732 boys and 6,695 girls. The total number of new admissions in Class I is 3,406, including 1,723 boys and 1,683 girls. In addition, the total number of children who have passed out of Balvatika and got admission in Class I is 15,479, including 7,732 boys and 7,747 girls. Thus, a total of 32,312 children are included in Balvatika and Class I, including 16,187 boys and 1,6125 girls. The total number of children who have taken admission in Municipal Corporation schools from Class I till VIII from private schools is 2,941, including 1,568 boys and 1,373 girls. PM Modi had launched the Kanya Kelvani Mahotsav and Shala Praveshotsav in 2003-04 when he was the CM of the state. This year, the state government had declared that the theme of the drive would be 'Let's make Shala Praveshotsav a social festival'.

Gujarat to launch AI-based system to cut dropout rate in schools
With Gujarat being among the states with the highest dropout rate in secondary education, the state government has devised an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Early Warning System (EWS) to curb dropouts. To be launched across the state during Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani, a three-day school enrolment drive to be kicked off on June 26, the EWS will provide information and send out alerts on potential dropouts in Classes 8 and 9. Already piloted in a few schools during the 2024-25 academic session, the EWS uses students' data maintained at the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK). Each student enroled in government-run and aided schools has a unique identification number, which is stored and tracked by the VSK. 'The Early Warning System aims at identifying students at risk of dropping out of school at the secondary level, based on identification of key indicators. Once 'at-risk' children are identified, they will be provided support through preventive response strategies and interventions to meet their specific needs. Continuous monitoring and tracking will be done at the school, cluster, district and state level to retain children in schools,' an Education department official told The Indian Express. All government and aided schools in Gujarat are equipped with Child Tracking System (CTS). Based on algorithm, factors considered to ascertain possible dropouts include absenteeism, child's behaviour, academic performance and other factors like migration, socio-economic background along with demographic information. Data on potential dropouts will be shared with every school during the enrolment drive in the state. To prevent children from dropping out, the School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Management Development Committees (SMDCs) will also seek the local community's help to interact with the children and their parents, as alerted by the EWS. The list of potential dropouts will also be shared with the coordinators of block resource centres (BRCs) and cluster resource centre (CRCs), school principals as well as teachers and the school management committee (SMC) to ensure these students are provided all the necessary assistance. Officials at the education department also said that schools will be directed to involve children's parents in the admission process to make them understand the importance of school education for the development and progress of the child. The school administration will also have to ensure that children attend school regularly. Under behavioural issues, disruptive classroom behaviour, conflicts with peers or teachers, increased aggression, or withdrawal from social activities have been listed. As per the Department of School Education and Literacy's UDISE dashboard for 2023-24, the retention rate in secondary schools in Gujarat was 44.3 per cent. The Gross Enrolment Rate (GER) at the secondary and higher secondary levels is 58.7 per cent, whereas the dropout rate at these levels is 16.7 per cent. Gujarat is ranked with states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, which have a GER of 50.1-60 per cent in secondary classes. Shala Praveshotsav was launched by the Gujarat government in 2003 to promote school enrolment and keep drop-out rate in check. As part of the initiative, ministers, bureaucrats and police officers visit schools in teams to enrol students. The government has set a target of getting 25.75 students enroled for the 2025-26 academic session. Of them, 10.5 lakh are eligible for admission in Class IX, 6.5 lakh students for admission to Classes 10 and 11, and 8.75 lakh for admission in Balvatika. The Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani this year will target secondary and higher secondary schools. Out of a total of three schools to be visited by each official on each of the three days of the exercise, one should be primary and two secondary and higher secondary schools.

Three-day annual school enrolment drive in Gujarat to kick off on June 26
The Gujarat government on Tuesday announced revised a schedule for Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani, a three-day annual statewide drive to promote enrolment of eligible students, and set a target of getting 25.75 lakh enroled for the 2025-26 academic session. The 23rd edition of the drive, earlier scheduled for June 18-20, will now be held from June 26 to 28. The dates have been revised owing to bypolls in Kadi and Visavadar assemblies on June 19, gram panchayat election for 8,326 villages across the state on June 22 and counting of votes scheduled for June 25. The drive will be held in 1,529 government secondary and higher secondary schools, 5,134 grant-in-aid secondary and higher secondary schools and 31,824 government primary schools across the state. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday chaired an orientation meeting in Gandhinagar with ministers, office-bearers and around 400 IAS, IPS, and IFS officers and others who will be a part of the three-day exercise. As per Education Department estimates, 8.75 lakh students are eligible for admissions in Balvatika, 10.50 lakh for admission in Class 9 and 6.5 lakh for admissions in Class 10 and 11. Speaking at the orientation meeting, Education Minister Kuber Dindor said that the state government is focusing on admission of students to Class 9, 10 and 11 for this year's Shala Praveshotsav. Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi said that Shala Praveshotsav is not limited to the Education Department but has become a 'mission-mode' festival, which connects all departments. He also advocated social audit based on feedbacks through meetings with School Management Committees (SMCs). This exercise was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2002, during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. As part of the exercise, officials visit schools to assess works done by the SMCs, School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs), and School Management Teams. As per the National Education Policy 2020, local communities are also involved to help organise meetings with the SMCs and SMDCs. Visting teams ensure that SMCs and SMDCs comprise active and interested members, explain the importance of such commiteess and its role in improving the quality of education, monitor the use of smart classes and progress of children, create awareness among parents about their children's education, and ensure that students go to their schools regularly.

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel inaugurates Shri Swaminarayan Gurukul, commences academic session in Dabhoi
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 9 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the newly constructed Swaminarayan Gurukul in Dabhoi, Vadodara district, and formally commenced the academic session. The event was graced by the presence of saints, spiritual leaders, and distinguished dignitaries, according to the release. He said that 'In the Indian education system along with knowledge, values are also essential.' He further explained that in the ancient Gurukul tradition, princes received education and initiation from revered sages. Lord Rama was educated by sages Vashishta and Vishwamitra, while Lord Shri Krishna acquired knowledge from Rishi Sandipani. This very Gurukul tradition is now being revitalised through modern methods, thereby honouring and preserving our ancient heritage. The Chief Minister stated that institutions like these are, in contemporary times, blending the Gurukul tradition with modern advancements to offer students not only academic knowledge but also value-based and culturally grounded training essential for holistic development. The establishment of a modern hostel alongside a technologically equipped school campus marks the beginning of a new era in education. He expressed firm belief that this Gurukul by the Swaminarayan institution will nurture a generation poised for a bright future founded on patriotism, values, and spirituality. He mentioned that under the New Education Policy, which advances the legacy of ancient universities like Nalanda and Takshashila, the Prime Minister has established sector-specific universities. For the first time, an education system rooted in Indian tradition and based on the mother tongue has been implemented. Under the Prime Minister's guidance, the state government is bringing quality improvements in schools through the Gunotsav campaign. CM Patel emphasised that special attention has been given to the education of girls through initiatives such as Kanya Kelavani and Shala Praveshotsav. Chief Minister stated that through the Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati Yojana, students are being encouraged to opt for science streams. 'Within just one year, there has been a 27 percent increase in the number of students enrolling in the science stream. Through Mission School of Excellence and Vidya Samiksha Kendra, both standards and quality of education have progressed,' he said. The Prime Minister has resolved to establish India not just as a developing nation but as Viksit Bharat by 2047. Chief Minister urged that to realize this resolution, we must all contribute to shaping an 'Amrit Generation' that is educated, value-oriented, and determined. The CM mentioned that institutions like Shri Swaminarayan Gurukul play a vital role in supporting environmental initiatives led by the Prime Minister, including Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, Catch the Rain, and No Usage of Single Use Plastic. Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the brave soldiers of the Indian Army who displayed exceptional valour in protecting Bharat Mata for the unforgettable success of Operation Sindoor, the Chief Minister said that this operation has given a new direction to India's fight against terrorism. The Prime Minister has set such an example of national defence that it will inspire future generations to serve the nation. MLA Shailesh Mehta stated that, considering the cultural ethos of Darbhavati Nagari, the establishment of a Gurukul imparting value-based education had become a vital necessity. Under the leadership of the institution's directors--K P Swami, Nautam Swami, and Bapu Swami--this Gurukul has not merely been inaugurated today, but has marked the beginning of a new chapter in shaping the future of Darbhavati Nagari. 'The Chief Minister has shown special affection for Darbhavati by providing unique grants and developmental schemes, and therefore, I proudly say today that the Chief Minister's contribution to Darbhavati's development is invaluable. I express my heartfelt gratitude to him for that,' Mehta said. Jitubhai Vaghani, MLA Bhavnagar, stated that generally, when any educational institution is managed by commercial entities, it often operates with a profit-oriented approach. However, when such institutions are managed by saints, they are guided by a spirit of service and are enriched with cultural and moral values -- a truth that society has experienced firsthand. Swaminarayan Gurukul is not just an educational institution; it is an abode of values. Such institutions, equipped with modern technology and rooted in values, contribute not only to teaching but also to showing students how to live. The real success of a Gurukul is when students feel drawn to attend, to study, and are shaped with Indianness, ethics, and patriotism alongside their education, the release said.
