NFL writer targets Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt as a potential roster cut
NFL writer targets Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt as a potential roster cut The Kansas City Chiefs have yet to start mandatory camps, but analysts are already predicting a roster move. In a recent article for Bleacher Report, writer Kristopher Knox targeted Kareem Hunt as a potential Chiefs cap casualty. 'After he led the team in rushing last season, the Kansas City Chiefs opted to bring back Kareem Hunt on a one-year, $1.5 million deal,' wrote Knox. 'However, Kansas City also signed Elijah Mitchell before drafting former SMU running back Brashard Smith, who has intrigued the front office. Assuming Isiah Pacheco is back to pre-injury form, Hunt could be the odd man out. Releasing him would save Kansas City $632,353 in cap space.' On Friday, March 14, the Chiefs re-signed veteran Hunt to a one-year contract. Last season, he led Kansas City in rushing with 728 yards and seven touchdowns. During his best statistical year, He earned All-Rookie and Pro Bowl honors in 2017, winning the rushing title with 1,327 yards.

Chiefs Win Projection Revealed as 8-Straight Achievement
The Kansas City Chiefs are one team that has divided opinion this offseason regarding what exactly they will become in 2025. After another good season last year that ended badly, the Chiefs have had a so-so offseason and addressed some needs, particularly the offensive line, but some are still unsure if the issue has been "fixed" to the point where a deep playoff run is forthcoming. Advertisement The NFL schedule was released last week, and naturally, everyone has an opinion on how many wins each team will get, who will make the playoffs, and so on. For the Chiefs, there are some who think they'll struggle in 2025, but according to the latest win projections put forth by Caesars Sportsbook & Casino, Kansas City is expected to have the third-best total in the AFC with 11.2 wins. If that total is achieved, it would be the eighth consecutive season that the Chiefs have won at least 10 regular-season games. And we think that an 11-6 record is enough for playoff football, and a home playoff game for Kansas City. Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt (29) is congratulated by quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15)Kyle Terada-Imagn Images In the first month of the season, we will get an early indication of the Chiefs' ability to climb back to the top of the NFL mountain. Advertisement Kansas City faces the Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Baltimore Ravens, and all three will present quite the challenge to Patrick Mahomes and Co. Navigate that, and come out at at least .500, then the Chiefs are in business, and the narrative surrounding them that the dynasty is over, will begin to dissipate. But if it goes the other way and the Chiefs are shown a clean pair of heels, then 2025 might be tough sledding for the defending AFC champs. Chiefs' Ideal Schedule Wish A Christmas Rivalry Theme?
The NFL is set to release the 2025 schedule this week with fans looking to see when and where their teams play, and for the Kansas City Chiefs, where they begin their revenge tour after the Super Bowl loss is intriguing. With Patrick Mahomes and Co. looking to stay at the top of the AFC summit, a place they've occupied for the past couple of seasons, having the 11th-hardest schedule (based on the combined 2024 record of teams they play in 2025), the Chiefs have a somewhat tricky year ahead. Advertisement But given the Chiefs will be seeing plenty of tough teams this upcoming season, with most seeing Kansas City as their Super Bowl, if the franchise got one schedule wish, what would it be? For CBS Sports, it is a Christmas Day showdown with the Buffalo Bills. "A Christmas clash with the Bills, mixing holiday buzz with maybe the most anticipated annual battle," CBS Sports writes. The Chiefs set Kareem Hunt and Patrick Mahomes up for rushing success with one specific concept.(Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images) The Chiefs have made it known that they want to be a constant fixture on Christmas Day, and with the Bills looking in perhaps the best shape under Allen to reach and win a Super Bowl, having these two titans clash on Christmas Day would be something special. Advertisement The Bills have beaten the Chiefs the last four times in the regular season, but Kansas City has beaten Buffalo the last four times in the playoffs. Weird, huh. Given the Chiefs have the Bills on the road, it will be a tough outing at Highmark Stadium for the AFC champs, but it could be a pivotal clash with playoff seeding likely needing to be determined. Maybe the Chiefs will get their Christmas wish, and maybe it will be another installment of what is becoming quite the rivalry, too. Chiefs Predict Rookie To Do 'Silly Things' with Mahomes
Coming off a 2024 season in which the Kansas City Chiefs' run game ranked 26th in yards per game (101.2), the front office knew that something had to change. With Isiah Pachco and Kareem Hunt returning, neither is considered a speed burner; instead, they are more than capable of picking up yards in a bruising manner. Advertisement That led the Chiefs to pick up Elijah Mitchell in free agency who has speed to burn, but is coming off an injury that saw him ruled out of the entire 2024 season. Then came the draft. Kansas City then selected SMU back Brashard Smith, who rushed for 1,332 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, but it was his 4.39 speed and his ability to be a dynamic slasher that caught the AFC champs' attention. And for director of player personnel Rnye Nutt, he fully expects Smith to feature at some point in 2025. "When he has the ball in his hands, whether it's as a runner or catching the ball, he can do some silly things in terms of what he can set up," Nutt said via ESPN. "Now he has to come in and pick everything up and there has to be a comfort level that he knows what he's doing. But talent-wise, there should be no reason this kid shouldn't help us at some point in the season.'' Southern Methodist Mustangs running back Brashard Smith (1) runs with the ball while trying to avoid a tackle during the fourth quarter against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the first round of the College Football Playoff at Beaver Stadium.@ Matthew O'Haren-Imagn Images With the Chiefs not having genuine speed in the backfield, it can make stopping the run rather easy for defenses, and eight times Kansas City was kept under 100 yards last season. Advertisement Now with Mitchell and Smith in the ranks, both of whom possess the home-run speed Andy Reid is looking for, there is a hope that defenses won't be able to pin their ears back and go after Patrick Mahomes because of the threat Mitchell and Smith possess. Granted, that is provided Smith makes the team, and Nutt said as much, so this offseason looms as pivotal in seeing if the former SMU star can adapt to the playbook and the rigors of the NFL, because make no mistake about it, there is a spot on this roster for him. If he's good enough. Related: Chiefs Star Shows Off Super Bowl Rings At College Graduation Related: Should Chiefs Sign Long-Time Playoff Enemy?
