Newcastle United to have open-top bus parade to celebrate League Cup victory on March 29

Newcastle United have confirmed that an open-top bus parade will form part of their Carabao Cup celebrations within the city centre on Saturday. The club announced on Friday that a free ticketed event would take place on the Town Moor, a large green area just outside the city centre, to mark Newcastle's first domestic trophy win in 70 years and that Eddie Howe and each member of the playing squad would be presented to supporters. Advertisement But discussions have continued with Newcastle City Council, the Freemen of Newcastle, Northumbria Police, the North East Combined Authority, NE1, Nexus and the emergency services to ensure that demand can be met, given that well in excess of 100,000 supporters are expected to attend. It is set to be one of the largest gatherings in the history of the city. The bus route, which starts at St James' Park, will be open for the general public to attend, meaning families can gather and watch players and staff make their way through the city centre towards the Town Moor. The route takes the bus down Gallowgate, on to Percy Street and then along the B1318 towards Gosforth, before stopping at the Town Moor, where the players will make their way on to stage. The full bus route will be displayed live on large screens on the Town Moor, but timings are yet to be confirmed. Every fan who registered for the Town Moor event will receive a ticket via email, with Newcastle managing to accommodate them all, despite what they describe as 'unprecedented interest' in attending. The final will be replayed on big screens, while players will be introduced to fans and a lights show is expected to close out the event. Supporters will be allowed to bring their own food and drink on to the Town Moor, though alcohol is not permitted, given that families are being encouraged to attend. 🥰 — Newcastle United (@NUFC) March 24, 2025 'Newcastle United would like to thank all partners for the comprehensive planning and hard work throughout the process, as well as the meetings with the Safety Advisory Group,' a club statement read. 'Further supporter information will be confirmed following additional meetings this week.' Earlier on Monday, Councillor Karen Kilgour, leader of Newcastle City Council, had insisted that the authority had never been against a bus parade and wanted supporters to celebrate. She has also already nominated Howe to become an Honorary Freedom of Newcastle, the city's highest honour. Advertisement 'Our teams have guided and advised in any way they've been able, we haven't blocked the holding of a parade and we've been doing our upmost to facilitate the plans the club have presented,' she said in a statement. 'The anticipated crowds for Saturday's celebration, to mark the end of a 70-year wait for domestic silverware, are expected to make it among the biggest events ever held in the city. The safety of those attending and the local communities and businesses affected by this must be the priority of all partners involved. 'We're all keen to see a spectacular event, that is free and accessible to everybody who wishes to be part of this moment in history. As a lifelong fan, I remember the parades through the city centre when we didn't even lift a trophy. 'They were special memories and I want children and families in this city to have that same experience on an even bigger and better scale.' ()
