Newcastle's Carabao Cup parade: Where to park on Saturday?
Council-owned car parks in Newcastle will have their opening hours extended for the Magpies' Carabao Cup celebrations on Saturday.The city council said its parking sites would remain open until midnight to support the tens of thousands of fans expected to cheer on Newcastle United's winning team.Council leader Karen Kilgour said work had been carried out to make sure everyone could be part of the historic day, but drivers have been warned that several popular locations will be blocked off to make way for the team's open-top bus parade."With huge crowds expected, we want everyone to enjoy it and get there and home safely so there will be a number of road closures required," she said.
"This is a monumental and exciting event for the city as we come together to celebrate this amazing achievement."Kilgour said people should use public transport where possible.The parade will begin at St James' Park at 16:00 GMT on Saturday and will travel through the city until it reaches the Town Moor at 18:00, where celebrations will continue.
Parade day car parks
Newcastle City Council owns about 2,200 street parking bays, 52 off-street car parks and nine multi-storeys.It said all of its car parks will stay open until midnight on Saturday, however people are being warned some closures will be in place while the open-top bus parade takes to the streets.The council's biggest car parks are its multi-storeys, which are: Dean StreetManors, Oxford StreetEldon Square (restrictions in place)Eldon Garden (restrictions in place)NUFC Stadium (St James' Park) The Garage at HelixGrainger TownQuaysideA map of all the council's car parks can be found on its website.
Parking suspensions
As the parade passes through the city a number of roads will be closed on a rolling basis.It also means parking suspensions will be in place along the route of the parade, including at the Eldon Square and Eldon Garden multi-storeys.The following suspensions will be in place: Barrack Road – All bays suspended until 18:00 GMTSt Andrews Street upper – All bays suspended until 18:00 GMTCollege Street – All bays suspended until 18:00 GMTSandyford Road – All bays suspended until 18:00 GMTForsyth Road – All bays suspended all dayEldon Square car park – Closed between 15:00 and 18:00 GMT, during which times cars will be unable to exitEldon Garden car park – Closed between 15:00 and 18:00 GMT, but cars will still be able to exitClayton Street – All bays suspended until 18:00 GMT between Fenkle Street and Newgate StreetCivic Centre – closed to the public until 13:00 GMT (not including Sandyford Square)

Last summer saw the Premier League's fifth-placed side make a late £35million bid for the Swede but never came close to making a deal. And Eddie Howe appears keen to rest the Midlands side's resolve once again, with Newcastle able to offer Champions League football. However, it is reported it would take a figure greater than £50m to find success. Elanga appears relaxed over such speculation. ' There is a lot of talk," he said, per Sport Witness. "I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.' 'I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play," he added. "As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match. "I just keep my focus and what I can control. That's what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That's what I can do." Elanga was asked if he'd received a call from Isak and admitted his international team-mate had made an attempt. But joked it was likely about his shooting performance on Friday night. Ex-Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 'offered' surprise Championship deal
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has spent two seasons playing for Besiktas, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be about to end his spell in Turkey, with Leicester interested in his services Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is being eyed by Leicester after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made it clear that Besiktas want to sell him this summer. Oxlade-Chamberlain has just finished his second season with Besiktas and it seems he could be approaching the end of his time in Istanbul. The former Arsenal midfielder arrived in Turkey in the summer of 2023 after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer. He has endured a rollercoaster time with Besiktas, playing under nine different managers during his two years. It initially appeared as though he would leave the club last summer, just one year into his three-year contract, after being frozen out by Giovanni van Bronckhorst. But he rode out Van Bronckhorst's short-lived spell in charge and ended up becoming more involved once ex-Manchester United boss Solskjaer arrived. The 31-year-old, who is engaged to singer Perrie Edwards, ended up making 20 appearances in all competitions, although he was ineligible to play in the Europa League, having been omitted from the squad. He appeared to blossom under Solskjaer's management, but his wages have presented an issue. According to reports in Turkey, Bestikas are keen to get his £2.2million annual salary off their wage bill and Leicester have approached the club about signing Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Foxes have been relegated to the Championship and are rebuilding after sacking Ruud van Nistelrooy and releasing a group of players. Oxlade-Chamberlain has won the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup with Liverpool, three FA Cups with Arsenal and has claimed the Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup with Bestikas, despite his struggles there. Nevertheless, it seems he is searching for regular game time at this stage of his career, having previously struggled with injuries and with rotation. Speaking to The Athletic in October 2023, he said: 'Whatever your career path is, it's about what keeps you motivated. For some people, it could be money. For others, it's winning. Others might just want to score goals. Whatever it is, you want those needs to be met. That's what gives you the will to keep going. 'I just want to play. I need to play, to take this opportunity and see what I can still achieve while my legs are still moving.' Solskjaer will have to take a pragmatic approach with Besiktas due to their situation. "Everyone knows you need time to shape a team into what you want it to look like. But you have to manage it the best you can, not as you wish it was,' Solskjaer told BBC Sport last month. 'There are things I want my team to do that this one can't. We have come into a difficult financial period because in the past the club has spent money, maybe not so wisely." He added: "Look, recruitment is probably the most important thing in football. You need the structures right and you need to get the right people in. "When you manage two, three, four or five different managers' players, it is hard to make it balance into a team you want to see. Newcastle step up pursuit of Joao Pedro after missing out on Bryan Mbeumo
Newcastle United are ready to step up their pursuit of Joao Pedro after identifying the Brighton and Hove Albion forward as the ideal profile to bolster Eddie Howe's attack. As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Howe initially targeted Bryan Mbeumo this summer but the Brentford forward is heading towards Manchester United in a deal worth more than £60 million. Newcastle have now turned to Pedro, who is rated just as highly at St James' Park, and Howe has been tracking the 23-year-old's progress since he moved from Fluminense to Watford in 2020 as a teenager. His technical ability, pace and strength has seen him targeted as a player considered at Newcastle previously. The Newcastle manager has been looking to add a wide forward who can cut inside with Pedro seen as the ideal candidate to support Alexander Isak as centre-forward while also being able to play through the middle himself. Brighton are expected to want upwards of £60 million for the forward who they landed from Watford in a club-record £30 million deal two seasons ago. He has since reached double-figures for goals in his two seasons at the Amex Stadium, although was left out of the matchday squad at the end of the last campaign over a training ground clash. 'We dealt with it internally and the matter is closed,' said head coach Fabian Hürzeler. 'There are principles that are non-negotiable and count for everyone – that everyone has to stick to - where we don't make any compromises.' Despite the clash, Brighton were fully expecting Pedro to return to the squad, although they are now braced for bids for their forward. Howe used Jacob Murphy on the right-side of his attack last season, although the 30-year-old can also be used as a wing-back as well as a forward. Harvey Barnes was also used as a wide forward.
