Mayor calls Kargil martyrs' families ‘true national heroes'

Lucknow: Mayor Sushma Kharakwal praised the sacrifices of the families of the Kargil martyrs and lauded their immense love for the nation.
"I bow with deep respect to the families of those bravehearts who sacrificed everything to protect our nation. Your presence is a matter of great pride for all of us. Your sacrifice cannot be described in words — you are our true national heroes," she said while speaking at the Kargil Smriti Vatika on
Kargil Vijay Diwas
on Saturday.
Remembering the valour of soldiers during the 1999 Kargil conflict, she said: "This day reminds us of the brave sons who defended the integrity and honour of our nation in the world's highest battlefield. Because of their courage and sacrifice, we sleep peacefully today."
She praised the
Indian Army
for defending the nation in all terrains — whether icy mountains, scorching deserts, or dense forests — and said the Kargil episode was a global message that India will not remain silent if provoked.
Referring to recent military actions like the surgical strikes, Balakot Air Strike, and Operation Sindoor, she said India now takes bold and decisive steps.
"Whether it is Pakistan's bluff or borrowed military equipment, India responds on enemy soil if required. This strength and resolve are unique to Indians."
She called on citizens to take inspiration from the bravery of soldiers and live by the motto Nation First.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with the mayor, honoured the families of Kargil heroes by presenting memorial tokens and ceremonial shawls. Those honoured included Gopi Chandra Pandey, father of Captain Manoj Pandey; Kamla Devi, wife of Lance Naik Kewalanand Dwivedi; Srijana Pradhan, sister of Rifleman Sunil Jung; and SP Sharma, father of Major Ritesh Sharma.
