Suzuki e-Access: Old-School Charm Meets Electric Swag
Last Updated: The scooter comes with a key fob featuring two buttons—one for locking/unlocking and another for locating the vehicle in parking areas. The electric two-wheeler segment in India is witnessing rapid growth, with legacy manufacturers like TVS and Bajaj making significant strides. Suzuki, known for its reliable and practical scooters, has now entered the fray with the e-Access, its first electric scooter. This move comes at a time when companies like Ola Electric are facing challenges, and traditional players are gaining ground . News18 recently had the opportunity to experience the Suzuki e-Access on a track, providing a controlled environment to assess its capabilities, though it doesn't fully replicate real-world road conditions. Here's what we think about it. Design and Dimensions The e-Access sports a design that blends retro elements with modern touches. The front fascia, reminiscent of the old Karizma, features a sharp nose and LED headlights. The scooter's proportions are compact, with a wheelbase of 1305 mm, ground clearance of 160 mm, and a seat height of 765 mm. Weighing in at 122 kg, the scooter feels light, which is particularly beneficial for female riders. Its weight distribution ensures stability, making cornering on tracks and city roads a confident affair. Features and Technology Suzuki has equipped the e-Access with a suite of features aimed at enhancing rider convenience. The keyless system, operated via a fob with lock/unlock and vehicle locator functions, is intuitive. However, the two-step unlocking process, pressing the fob button followed by turning a knob on the scooter, might require some getting used to. The same knob controls seat and charging port access, which, while innovative, can be slightly complex initially. The TFT display, though smaller than some competitors, provides essential information like range and battery percentage. When paired with a smartphone, it offers turn-by-turn navigation and call notifications. The underseat storage is limited due to the battery placement, but the self-locking seat mechanism is a thoughtful addition, allowing easy access to the boot without holding the seat up. Powertrain and Performance Under the hood, the e-Access houses a 3.07 kWh lithium-ion battery powering a 4.1 kW motor, delivering 15 Nm of torque. The power delivery is smooth and linear, ensuring a comfortable ride. The scooter offers three ride modes: Eco, Ride A, and Ride B. Eco mode maximizes range, Ride A provides high range with high regenerative braking, and Ride B offers high range with low regenerative braking. Switching between Ride A and Ride B requires a long press of the ride mode switch near the handlebar. Notably, only two modes can be used interchangeably at a time. Suspension and Brakes The e-Access features a telescopic front suspension and a rear monoshock setup. While the ride is generally comfortable, the suspension leans towards the softer side, making speed breakers feel a bit harsh. Braking is handled by a front disc and rear drum setup, providing adequate stopping power. The braking distance is commendable, ensuring safety during sudden stops. Handling and Comfort The e-Access offers a comfortable riding stance with ample floorboard space. Its balanced weight distribution ensures stability, even during cornering. The lightweight nature of the scooter adds to its maneuverability, making it suitable for urban traffic conditions. Advertisement Pricing & Rivals The e-Access is expected to launch in India around June 2025, with an estimated price range of Rs 1.10 lakh to Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom). In this segment, it will compete with models like the Honda Activa e, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak Electric, and Ather Rizta. While the e-Access offers a compelling package, some rivals boast higher top speeds and longer ranges. Verdict top videos View All Suzuki's e-Access marks a significant step into the electric scooter market, bringing the brand's hallmark reliability and practicality to the EV segment. Its smooth power delivery, thoughtful features like the self-locking seat, and comfortable ergonomics make it a strong contender for urban commuters. While there are areas for improvement, such as boot space and the learning curve associated with the multi-function knob, the e-Access stands as a promising option for those seeking a dependable electric scooter from a trusted manufacturer. Noida cop shot dead: With 24 cases, Qadir is an expert vehicle thief at 24
Ghaziabad: At an age when most young adults are pursuing college degrees, 24-year-old Qadir was perfecting the art of grand auto theft. His criminal portfolio — spanning six years across Delhi-NCR — has 24 cases, including vehicle thefts, arms violations, and those under the Gangster Act. Starting his criminal career at 19, Qadir's first heist was a black Scorpio from Delhi's Ghazipur in Jan 2019. What began with motorcycles — a Hero Passion Pro and a Karizma — soon escalated to four-wheelers as Qadir established his notoriety across Ghaziabad, Noida, and Muzaffarnagar. Ghaziabad, police said, was his favourite hunting ground with 12 FIRs, followed by Muzaffarnagar with seven, and Noida with five cases. Initially operating under childhood friends Shavez and Sameer from Masuri village, the trio were arrested first in 2019, when police recovered two four-wheelers and two motorcycles from them. The Gangster Act was invoked against them on April 23, 2019, with four criminal cases already under their belt. The gang dissolved in 2023, prompting Qadir to go solo. He shifted operations to Muzaffarnagar, forming a new alliance with local criminals Shahrukh and Abid. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo His modus operandi evolved — when full vehicle theft proved challenging, he targeted car batteries and other spare parts. "Sometimes, when unable to steal an entire vehicle, he would settle for batteries, tyres, and other parts too," revealed a senior police officer. On Sept 28 last year, authorities invoked the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, against Qadir and his new associates. Undeterred, he returned to Ghaziabad. In Noida Sector 73, Qadir broke into a Hyundai Verna, stealing its music system and engine control module on May 2 this year. The Sunday night raid in Nahal village was conducted in connection with the latest theft. "We're still investigating his criminal history across Delhi-NCR. So far, we know of only 24 cases against him," said DCP (rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari. Around 11pm on Sunday, UP Police constable Saurabh Kumar Deshwal and six other cops had gone to arrest Qadir in Nahal village when the gangster's accomplices shot him in the head. They pelted the police car with stones and fired at the cops as they put Qadir in the vehicle. One of the bullets hit Saurabh in the head.
