Noida cop shot dead: With 24 cases, Qadir is an expert vehicle thief at 24

Ghaziabad: At an age when most young adults are pursuing college degrees, 24-year-old Qadir was perfecting the art of grand auto theft. His criminal portfolio — spanning six years across Delhi-NCR — has 24 cases, including vehicle thefts, arms violations, and those under the Gangster Act.
Starting his criminal career at 19, Qadir's first heist was a black Scorpio from Delhi's Ghazipur in Jan 2019. What began with motorcycles — a Hero Passion Pro and a Karizma — soon escalated to four-wheelers as Qadir established his notoriety across Ghaziabad, Noida, and Muzaffarnagar.
Ghaziabad, police said, was his favourite hunting ground with 12 FIRs, followed by Muzaffarnagar with seven, and Noida with five cases.
Initially operating under childhood friends Shavez and Sameer from Masuri village, the trio were arrested first in 2019, when police recovered two four-wheelers and two motorcycles from them. The Gangster Act was invoked against them on April 23, 2019, with four criminal cases already under their belt.
The gang dissolved in 2023, prompting Qadir to go solo. He shifted operations to Muzaffarnagar, forming a new alliance with local criminals Shahrukh and Abid.

His modus operandi evolved — when full vehicle theft proved challenging, he targeted car batteries and other spare parts.
"Sometimes, when unable to steal an entire vehicle, he would settle for batteries, tyres, and other parts too," revealed a senior police officer.
On Sept 28 last year, authorities invoked the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, against Qadir and his new associates.
Undeterred, he returned to Ghaziabad. In Noida Sector 73, Qadir broke into a Hyundai Verna, stealing its music system and engine control module on May 2 this year. The Sunday night raid in Nahal village was conducted in connection with the latest theft.
"We're still investigating his criminal history across Delhi-NCR. So far, we know of only 24 cases against him," said DCP (rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari. Around 11pm on Sunday, UP Police constable Saurabh Kumar Deshwal and six other cops had gone to arrest Qadir in Nahal village when the gangster's accomplices shot him in the head. They pelted the police car with stones and fired at the cops as they put Qadir in the vehicle.
One of the bullets hit Saurabh in the head.

East Timor to deport ex-Philippine lawmaker wanted in 2023 killings

AI- Generated Image Manila; East Timor has agreed to deport an Interpol-wanted Philippines murder suspect after two years of political wrangling, with the government linking the case to its aspirations to join the regional ASEAN bloc. Former Philippines congressman Arnolfo Teves allegedly masterminded a March 2023 attack that killed then-provincial governor Roel Degamo and nine others. Teves was detained at a driving range in Dili last year, but a Timorese court blocked his extradition. Manila's justice secretary suggested the decision may have been bought, saying it was "obvious that some people are making money out of this". In an abrupt turnaround, East Timor late on Wednesdayannounced Teves' impending deportation, saying his continued presence represented a security risk. "The Government hereby informs that Arnolfo Teves Jr. will be deported from Timor-Leste," it said in a statement, using the country's alternate name. It added that East Timor's "imminent full accession" to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) had reinforced its responsibility to collaborate regionally on legal matters. On Thursday, Manila's Department of Justice said it was preparing a team to facilitate Teves' repatriation based on deportation documents from East Timor. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Undo Ex-lawmaker Teves is the prime suspect in the murder of former Negros Oriental governor Degamo. Degamo had been distributing aid at his home in Pamplona when six people carrying rifles and dressed in military fatigues entered the compound and opened fire on March 4, 2023. The killings came months after Degamo was declared winner of a disputed vote, unseating Henry Teves, the ex-lawmaker's brother. Arnolfo Teves was expelled from the House of Representatives after refusing to return to the Philippines to face murder charges. On Wednesday, Teves' son Axl posted videos on social media of his father being dragged away by Timorese police, claiming he had been "kidnapped". Degamo's widow Janice, meanwhile, called the arrest a "significant step toward justice". Teves is currently being held in detention while awaiting administrative processing, a source at Dili's interior ministry told AFP.
