Johni Broome was roasted by Duolingo after poor athleticism at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine
Johni Broome was roasted by Duolingo after poor athleticism at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine Show Caption Hide Caption 2025 NBA draft lottery: Mavericks, Spurs and 76ers big winners The Mavericks secure the top pick in the 2025 NBA draft lottery despite a 1.8% chance Auburn basketball star big man Johni Broome had one of the best seasons of any player in men's college basketball. Next, he looks to turn pro. Broome earned praise from former NBA star Charles Barkley as perhaps the greatest player in program history at Auburn during the NCAA men's basketball tournament. He was named SEC Player of the Year and also earned the Karl Malone Award and Pete Newell Big Man Award. He was, without a doubt, one of the best players in college basketball. But what does his future look like in the NBA? That is what he is trying to figure out while participating in the 2025 NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. More: Charles Barkley said Johni Broome can beat him as Auburn's best player ever During athletic testing in Chicago, the big man recorded a 24.5-inch standing vertical leap. For evaluators who were hoping to see better athleticism from the big man, they were disappointed. Learn Chinese and try Super Duolingo today! — Duolingo (@duolingo) May 14, 2025 But no one was more ruthless in their critique of Broome than Duolingo. They encouraged the former Auburn star to learn Chinese because they think it would be a useful skill for him to learn because they suggest he will probably have to play in the Chinese Basketball Association and not the NBA. This is a play on the famous "Get ready to learn Chinese, buddy" meme popularized on social media. We currently do not project Broome will hear his name in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. But based on his productivity, he could still become a second-round pick. Remember: Nikola Jokic reportedly had a standing vertical leap of only 17 inches when he was a prospect and that worked out OK for him. Auburn's Johni Broome wins Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award
Auburn's Johni Broome wins Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Johni Broome received the Karl Malone Award hours before playing the Florida Gators. The 2024-25 season did not end the way Johni Broome and the Auburn Tigers wanted with a 79-73 loss to Florida in the Final Four. Broome did collect another award on Saturday before the game. He was rewarded with the Karl Malone Award that goes to the nation's top power forward. This is addition to other accolades such as SEC Player of the Year, First Team All-American, The Sporting News Player of the Year, and many more. During his final season at Auburn Broome saved his best for last. This year, he averaged 18.6 points per game, 10.8 rebounds per game, and 2.1 blocks per game. One of his more underrated skills as a player is his passing ability. This season he averaged 2.9 assists per game. In his final game on Saturday night he got off to a great start, and the Tigers led 46-38 at halftime. He ended the game and his career with 15 points and seven rebounds. With the three-year career Broome has had at Auburn after transferring from Morehead State, he has put himself in the conversation as the greatest player in Auburn history. That discussion was always one-sided with Charles Barkley getting that honor. Broome and Barkley did embrace after the loss to the Gators. "He just thanked me for what I've done for Auburn," said Broome after the game. "Told me to keep my head high. Coming from a guy who cemented himself in Auburn history means a lot." During his three years at Auburn, Broome was part of two SEC Championships and this Final Four run. He closes out his career averaging 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds. Now the Tigers have the difficult task of replacing Broome, but his time on the Plains will never be forgotten by the Auburn Family. Report: Nets sign Long Island standout Drew Timme to 2-year contract
May 15, 2023; Chicago, Il, USA; Drew Timme of Gonzaga participates in the 2023 NBA Draft Combine at Wintrust Arena. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-USA TODAY Sports The Brooklyn Nets are nearing the end of their 2024-25 NBA season that began in exciting fashion, but will end with them hoping that the ping-pong balls drop their way. Since coming out of the All-Star Break, Brooklyn has not forgotten that part of the reason for this campaign is to evaluate as many players as possible and it looks like they haven't lost sight of that yet. The Nets signed center Drew Timme to a two-year deal on Thursday, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Timme, who spent parts of this season with the Stockton Kings, the G League afiliate of the Sacramento Kings, and the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn's G League team, is coming off one of the best weeks of his life as he was recently named G League Player of the Week after averaging 35.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 68.4% from the field and 63.6% from three-point land. Advertisement Timme's recognition as the G League Player of the Week was the fifth Player of the Week recognition in Long Island Nets history, the first for Long Island this season and the first for Timme as he showed his ability to be a force on the offensive end of the floor. For the season, Timme is averaging 23.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 57.4% from the floor and 38.5% from deep. Timme, 24, will take the last roster spot for the Nets after their 15th and final spot has been vacant since the team decided not to give Killian Hayes another 10-day contract after his initial deal expired. While it didn't seem like Timme had a place on the Nets roster given that Nic Claxton and Day'Ron Sharpe are still on the team, Sharpe recently went down with a right knee sprain and has already been ruled out for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Timme, who is listed at power forward and at center, could be a versatile piece for head coach Jordi Fernandez to use over the final nine games of the season, especially if Sharpe isn't able to get back on the floor. Most basketball fans are familiar with Timme because of his college days with the Gonzaga Bulldogs where he was a three-time All-American as well as winning the Karl Malone Award for the best power forward in the country after the 2020-21 season.
