Kirloskar Electric re-appoints Anand B Hunnur as MD for 3 years

Kirloskar Electric Company (KECL) said that its board has approved the re-appointment of Anand B Hunnur as managing director (MD) for three years with effect from 12 July 2025. Anand B Hunnur holds a bachelors degree in Engineering from Karnataka University and has a diploma in marketing & sales management from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai. He joined Kirloskar Electric Company as vice president sales & marketing in 2011 and was appointed as director - sales in August 12, 2014. He was appointed as managing director from May 26, 2017. He stepped down from his position on April 12, 2019, citing personal reasons, and was subsequently reappointed on August 12, 2022. He has been instrumental in generating good business, improving overall operations and achieving the targets. He possesses varied and rich experience in sales and marketing. KECL is engaged in the manufacturing of a wide range of electrical equipment, including motors, alternators and generators, transformers, DG sets, and more. Its operations are organized into distinct product groups such as the transformer & distribution group, large machine group, low voltage machine group, and power generation group. The company reported consolidated net loss of Rs 3.85 crore in Q4 FY25 as compared with net profit of Rs 5.42 crore in Q4 FY24. Net sales declined 23.4% YoY to Rs 129.13 crore in Q4 FY25. The counter declined 1.17% to settle at Rs 144.15 on the BSE.

1,200 youths register as civil defence volunteers in North Karnataka

Hubballi: Around 1,200 youths have registered as civil defence volunteers (CDV) across the North Karnataka region. MY Bharat, the youth engagement platform under the ministry of youth affairs and sports, govt of India, launched the registration drive. This nationwide call is part of a concerted effort to empower young citizens to take up vital roles in the national cause, particularly during emergencies and crises. Volunteers will receive a weeklong specialised training in collaboration with national and state disaster management agencies. The ministry has launched the portal, The registration started on May 12. As many as 597 youths registered in Belagavi; Dharwad, 260; Bagalkot, 153; and Gadag, 168. The initiative aims to build a well-trained, responsive, and resilient volunteer force that can complement civil administration in times of natural disasters, accidents, public emergencies, and other unforeseen situations. District youth officer M Gautam Reddy told TOI that the ministry of youth affairs and sports launched the registration to select civil defence volunteers in May. Reddy said the initiative not only instils a strong sense of civic responsibility and discipline among youth but also equips them with practical life-saving skills and training to act swiftly in critical situations. The ministry has provided a platform for the youths. Therefore, youths are encouraged to come forward and mobilise all interested youth and the public for this national cause. MB Dalapati, programme coordinator, NSS Cell, Karnataka University, Dharwad, said earlier, NSS volunteers used to get such training. "Now, a youth in the age group 15-29 can be a volunteer. Training will be given to the volunteers. This includes rescue and evacuation operations, first aid and emergency care, traffic management, crowd control, public safety, and assisting in disaster response and rehabilitation efforts," he said. Malatesh K, an MSW student of Karnataka University, Dharwad, said many college students and NSS volunteers have registered. "We are also creating awareness in this regard," he added.

Karnataka State Election Commissioner G.S. Sangreshi said on Saturday that elections, being the foundation of strengthening democracy, play a crucial role in shaping the country's future. Delivering a special talk on 'Indian Democracy and the Role of Elections in Shaping its Future' at Faran Auditorium of Karnataka Arts College, he said that it was, however, regretting to note that the people in urban areas had been showing less interest in participating in the electoral process when compared to the rural electorate. Emphasising the need for active participation in the electoral process, Mr. Sangreshi also stressed that none should fall prey to temptations or inducements. 'Citizens must participate in the electoral process ethically and responsibly. And youths have a more responsible role to play,' he said. He advised the students against becoming slaves of technology. 'Instead, study diligently and develop proficiency in languages,' he said. Releasing the annual college magazine, Registrar of Karnataka University A. Chennappa underscored the need for students to understand the Constitution, democracy, and the election process. He also stressed the need for students to keep themselves updated about the current affairs. Principal D.B. Karadoni presided over the programme while Prof. Suresh Hullannavar made introductory remarks. On the occasion, a plaque featuring the preamble of the Constitution was unveiled at the Department of Political Science.
