The businessman reported receiving audio messages in which he was threatened and instructed to pay the amount. Police arrested one suspect in connection with the case and are continuing their investigation. The incident came to light on Saturday when a businessman from West Vinod Nagar reported to the cops that on May 11 at 6:50 pm, two unidentified men entered his electrical shop. One of them identified himself as Kartar Bhati and claimed he was involved in a murder. He showed a pocket diary containing the businessman's home and shop addresses and demanded Rs 50 lakh, threatening serious consequences if the demand was not met. The threat was reiterated on May 16 via a WhatsApp call, prompting the registration of a case. Deputy commissioner of police (East), Abhishek Dhania, formed a team under the supervision of additional DCP Vinit Kumar. With the help of CCTV footage, police identified the suspects as Kartar Bhati, a resident of Gautam Budh Nagar, UP, and Nadir alias Sah Alam.
