Gujarat cops arrest four from 'Khekda gang' in connection with metro cable thefts

AHMEDABAD: In a high-stakes crackdown, Gujarat's Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch has dismantled the notorious 'Khekda Gang'—a professional cable theft syndicate behind sweeping metro heists across India. The gang operated with surgical precision across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh, looting high-value metro cables under the radar. With 35 major thefts already traced to them, the gang had turned metro lines into a lucrative crime corridor. In a decisive strike, police have arrested four key operatives, while 11 gang members remain at large, triggering a nationwide manhunt. According to official police records, the gang's latest strike occurred on the night of June 2, 2025, during an IPL match, when they stole 700 meters of cable worth Rs 17.85 lakh near the old Koba Metro station in Gandhinagar. Exploiting the deserted stretch near the Infocity Post Office area between 2 and 3 am, the thieves scaled trees and metro pillars to execute the high-voltage heist. Speaking to the media in Gandhinagar, SP Ravi Teja Wasam Shett said: "Following the incident, police deployed technical surveillance and relied on informants to track the suspects to a rented house in Kalol, where the stolen cables were being processed. Acting swiftly, the Crime Branch raided the house and arrested Musharraf Irshad Mulejat, Rashid Ishaq Ismail Dhobi, Rashid Abdul Aziz Shabbir Ansari, and Irshad Majeed Allamehar Malik. Inside, they found cables stripped for copper, packed and ready for shipment to Delhi by train."

Delhi exporter held for Rs 30 crore scam linked to trade benefit scheme

New Delhi: An exporter was arrested for cheating and forgery related to a foreign trade benefit scam, causing a loss of Rs 30.47 crore to the exchequer, a Delhi Police official said on Saturday. 'Angad Pal Singh was arrested soon after his deportation from the US and arrest by CBI in another case,' said Vikram K. Porwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Economic Offence Wing). He said the accused was arrested on the complaint of the Naraina branch of ICICI Bank, which detected 467 fake Foreign Inward Remittance Certificates (FIRCs) submitted by its 18 account holders (17 firms). The scam is linked to FIRCs for the period from September 26, 2013, to October 21, 2015, the police said. DCP Porwal said that Angad Pal Singh and his family members created forged FIRC and obtained benefits of Duty Credit Scrips worth Rs 30.47 crore and sold them in the open market. All these FIRCs, which ran into crores of rupees, were purportedly issued from Corporation Bank, Bhikaji Cama Place, Delhi, he said. DCP Porwal said that soon after a complaint was filed against the exporter and his family, they fled to the US. 'The accused was later deported from the US and arrested by the CBI in another case of fraud. He has been arrested by EOW on June 2, and his police custody was obtained from a court,' he said, adding that the accused is presently in judicial custody. The DCP said that three other accused were arrested in this case earlier. They have already been charge-sheeted. Angad Singh, along with his father Surinder Singh and brother Harsahib Singh, was holding ownership of five firms, namely Kumar Trading Company, National Trader, Trident Overseas India, HSC Exim India and AHC Auto Spares, the police said. Angad Singh, who studied till Class 12 in Delhi, learnt the tricks of export business from his father, who exported auto spare parts through his firm, National Trader. He also engaged some other firms belonging to his family/friends on the pretext of providing high returns, the police said.

YouTuber Jasbir Singh sent to two-day police remand on charges of spying for Pakistan

YouTuber Jasbir Singh sent to two-day police remand on charges of spying for Pakistan MOHALI: YouTuber Jasbir Singh , accused of spying for Pakistan, was sent to a two-day police remand by a Mohali court on Saturday. A resident of Mehlan village in Ropar district, Jasbir Singh was produced before the court by the Punjab Police's State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) after completing an earlier three-day remand. The SSOC sought an extension of seven days, citing the need to seize Singh's laptop and extract further information regarding his alleged links to a spy network. The government prosecutor told the court that further digital evidence was likely to emerge and needed examination to trace the full extent of the alleged espionage . However, Jasbir Singh's legal counsel contested the police claims, asserting that his client had been falsely implicated. The defence argued that Singh had initially been summoned through a formal notice and had fully cooperated with the police during two days of questioning. It was only afterwards, the lawyer said, that the police arrested him and labelled him a spy without solid grounds. After considering the arguments presented by both sides, the court ordered a two-day police remand, rejecting the SSOC's request for a longer duration. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Вот что поза во сне говорит о вашем характере! Jasbir Singh came under police scrutiny following the release of a collaborative video with Jyoti Malhotra on his YouTube channel. Investigators are now examining the extent and nature of his association with Malhotra and Danish, and whether sensitive information may have been shared. As the investigation continues, the case has drawn public attention due to the involvement of social media figures and the serious nature of the charges. The matter is scheduled for further hearing after the remand period ends.
