CM Stalin inaugurates Semmozhi expo on Karuna's birth anniversary
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday inaugurated the Tamil Semmozhi exhibition as part of the Semmozhi Naal celebrations. The birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, June 3, is being celebrated as Semmozhi Naal. The exhibition, which is on at Kalaivanar Arangam, showcases a rare collection of photographs of Karunanidhi, old editions of classical Tamil works, palm-leaf manuscripts giving details about the evolution of Tamil language, literature and civilisation through artefacts showing the antiquity of Tamil civilisation. An official release said the exhibition has been extended till June 9 so that the public and students from schools and colleges could view it free of cost. The exhibition features include the history of classical Tamil, scripts from the Indus valley and Tamil Nadu symbols, Sangam-era inscriptions, pottery with Tamil inscriptions, details of Thirvalangadu copper plates, hero stone inscription from Keezh Mukkuttoor, Kalaiganr Karuvoolam with digital interactive features, a list of nationalised works of Karunanidhi, etc. As part of the Semmozhi Naal celebrations, the government will also be organising literary competitions, including oratorical contests, contests on writing poetry, quiz programmes, moral storytelling events, etc.

DMK celebrates Karunanidhi's birthday as Semmozhi Day
Chennai: Celebrating late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi 's 102nd birth anniversary as Semmozhi Day, chief minister M K Stalin inaugurated an exhibition titled 'Tamil Semmozhi,' on Tuesday. The expo displaying pictures of Tamil inscriptions portraying rich Tamil history would be open for public till June 9. Stalin commenced the day with a visit to Karunanidhi memorial in Marina beach where he paid floral tributes. He then proceeded to Omandurar govt hospital to garland Karunanidhi's statue. Later, he visited DMk headquarters Anna Arivalayam, Karunanidhi's residence in Gopalapuram and then the residence of DMK MP Kanizmozhi Karunanidhi in CIT colony. Subsequently, he participated at a function in Kalaivanar Arangam where he inaugurated the 'Tamil Semmozhi' exhibition. He also released a book on four year achievements of the DMK govt and distributed Kalaignar Karunanidhi Semmozhi Tamil award to Tamil scholar Thayammal, which carried a cash reward of 10lakh and a miniature statue of Karunanidhi. He also gave prizes to students who won various competitions conducted for Semmozhi Day at the school and college levels. Across the state, DMK organised 102 events marking the 102nd birth anniversary. Special celebrations were also organised at Karunanidhi's birthplace Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district.

Karunanidhi's 102nd birthday celebrated at ancestral village
Trichy: The 102nd birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi was celebrated at his ancestral village Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district on Tuesday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Karunanidhi was born in Thirukkuvalai on June 3, 1924. DMK cadres paid floral tributes and led 'Semmozhi Naal' processions across districts. The cadres distributed sweets and refreshments to the public. They also served food at Karunalaya Old Age Home in Thirukkuvalai. Chairman of Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation (TFDC), N Gowthaman led the celebration at Karunanidhi's ancestral residence. The functionaries garlanded the idols of Karunanidhi and his parents, A Muthuvel and M Anjugam. Chairman of Tamilnadu Adi Dravidar Housing Development Corporation (TAHDCO), U Mathivanan and several other DMK functionaries were present. School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi led the celebrations in Trichy. He garlanded Karunanidhi's idol near TVS Tolgate, distributed sweets, and led the 'Semmozhi Naal' procession. In Thanjavur, MP S Murasoli, former MP SS Palanimanickam, MLAs Durai Chandrasekaran (Thiruvaiyaru), TKG Neelamegam (Thanjavur) led the celebrations. Backward classes minister Siva V Meyyanathan led the events in Mayiladuthurai. Poompuhar MLA 'Nivetha' M Murugan and Sirkazhi MLA M Panneerselvam were also present.

Floral tributes paid to DMK Patriarch and former TN CM Karuna on his 102nd birth anniv
Chennai, June 3 (UNI) Rich tributes were paid to DMK Patriarch and late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on his 102nd birth anniversary, being celebrated as the Classical Language day, on Tuesday. Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin led the state in paying floral tributes to his father and his mentor on the occasion. Mr Stalin, accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues and senior leaders, including MPs, MLAs, district secretaries and Party functionaries and DMK cadres, paid floral tributes at the memorials of Mr Karunanidhi, a five time Chief Minister , who had never lost an election having contested for 13 times, and DMK Founder and stalwart C N Annadurai on the Marina Beach front to mark the occasion. Later, Mr Stalin garlanded the statue of Mr Karunanidhi at the Omandurar Government Estate Multi-speciality hospital complex and paid floral tributes to a decorated portrait of the late leader. Mr Stalin also paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mr Karunanidhi at the latter's Gopalapuram residence, garlanded his statue at the DMK headquarters 'Anna Arivalayam' and also at the premises of Party Organ, Tamil daily Murasoli. As per the resolution adopted at the June 1 DMK General Council meeting in Madurai, the day was being celebrated as Classical language day, to honour the late leader for getting Classical language status to Tamil. The DMK also announced that the party would be holding 102 welfare schemes across the state to mark the occasion in which senior leaders, Ministers, MPs, MLAs and party functionaries would be presiding. TN CM pays rich tributes to Karunanidhi on his birth anniversary
Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin paid rich tributes to his father and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on his birth anniversary on Tuesday hailing him as a towering Tamil personality who elevated Tamil Nadu. Stalin paid floral tributes to a portrait of the late leader at Gopalapuram here. Karunanidhi's birth anniversary today is being observed as Classical Language Day. A resolution passed at the DMK general council in Madurai on June 1 had said June 3, marking the birth anniversary of late DMK president and five-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will be observed as Classical Language Day across India. Taking to social media platform X, Stalin said 'Birthday of Kalaignar, leader of Tamil race, who rose like a sun of knowledge to uplift Tamil Nadu that once lay in decline." He further said 'Let us take pride in being the bretheren of Kalaignar who created history by leading the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, a great movement that guides India, for 50 years, and who provided both light and shadow. #Kalaignar 102.' DMK youth wing secretary and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin appealed to the party members to celebrate the birthday of the "great Tamil scholar who is still the heartbeat of the Tamils" as Classical Language Day and pay tribute to his fame. 'Let us resolve to continue the party's rule by winning in 2026 polls,' he said in a post on X. Hailed as a visionary leader, Karunanidhi a prolific writer, too, was also a champion of social justice. 'More than being a five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Kalaignar was a cultural icon, a fearless reformer, and a tireless advocate for social justice. Over his decades-long political journey, he championed the rights of the marginalised and worked relentlessly to uplift the lives of millions,' says DMK leader Nolambur V Rajan. Among his many transformative contributions, his revolutionary reforms in education stand as one of his most enduring legacies. At a time when access to quality education was a privilege for the few, Kalaignar envisioned a Tamil Nadu where education would be a fundamental right for all, regardless of caste, creed, or economic background, Rajan said. Besides, Karunanidhi advocated for Tamil as a medium of instruction to make learning more accessible to the rural population.
