How to Explore Doha Without a Car: A Public Transport & Walking Guide List – Experiencing the history and culture of Doh

Although plenty of cars, including taxis, are available for hire in Doha, the public bus service known as Karwa or Mowasalat offers a seamless end-to-end service for locals and visitors using various Doha resorts. As most of the fleet consists of electric buses, your bus commute is almost noiseless and mostly environmentally friendly. Most contemporary visitors look forward to such sustainable experiences, and travelling by public transport is also a good chance to gain local insights. Karwa bus service operates modern air-conditioned electric buses in and around Doha, including several key routes to/from Hamad International Airport, and it covers other parts of Qatar. Visitors need to buy a Karwa smartcard with different values and packages, readily available at airport vending machines, Doha bus station and numerous merchant outlets in the city and beyond. Select the smartcard based on your travel requirements and length of stay. These bus fares are reasonably priced, starting at 3 Qatar Riyals (QAR) for trips within Doha and 4 QAR and above for trips outside Doha.

Get to know Nunoo and his inspiring story of growth from the driver seat to spotlight at Snoonu

In the bustling world of tech startups, stories of transformation often revolve around innovation and disruption. Yet, at Snoonu, a Qatari tech leader, one story stands out—not for its technological prowess, but for its human spirit. A Humble Beginning Kwadjo Nunoo, affectionately known as Nunoo, hails from Accra, Ghana. Life presented challenges early on; his parents separated during his infancy, and financial constraints led him to pursue technical education over traditional schooling. Balancing studies with work, Nunoo supported both himself and his family, showcasing resilience beyond his years. Post-graduation, he worked as a personal driver until the company's closure. Undeterred, and with assistance from a former manager, he acquired a vehicle and operated as a taxi driver for two years. In 2017, seeking better opportunities, Nunoo joined Qatar's Karwa transportation company, where his dedication earned him the "Top Performer" award in December 2018. However, personal circumstances necessitated his return to Ghana in 2020. A New Chapter with Snoonu Opportunity knocked again when Nunoo learned about Snoonu, a burgeoning tech startup in Qatar. In May 2021, he joined as a full-time delivery driver. From the outset, Nunoo's commitment was evident. His consistent performance led to multiple accolades, including "Top Performer" recognitions and the "Most Promising Snooner" award in May 2022. But Nunoo's aspirations extended beyond deliveries. When the marketing team sought logistical support for a community event, Nunoo volunteered. His enthusiasm, organizational skills, and ability to engage with attendees did not go unnoticed. This event marked the beginning of his transition from logistics to the heart of Snoonu's community engagement initiatives. Embracing New Roles Recognizing his potential, Snoonu's leadership offered Nunoo a position as an Event Logistics Associate within the marketing team. This role will allow him to channel his energy into organizing and executing events, from local festivals to international exhibitions. In a gesture highlighting the company's commitment to employee growth, CEO Mr. Hamad AlMubarak granted Nunoo the unique opportunity to serve as "CEO for a Day." This experience provided Nunoo with insights into leadership and strategic decision-making, further fueling his professional development. Voices from the Team Rahma Abid, Acting Chief Marketing Officer, remarked, "Nunoo embodies the spirit of Snoonu. His journey from driver to a pivotal marketing team member showcases what's possible when talent meets opportunity." Hanna Bakhdoud, Acting Head of Events, added, "His proactive approach and unwavering positivity have made him an indispensable part of our events. Nunoo doesn't just participate; he elevates every event he touches." Looking Ahead Beyond his professional achievements, Nunoo harbors a dream: to establish a non-traditional school in Ghana. His vision is to create an institution that fosters critical thinking, self-confidence, and community leadership among young learners. Nunoo's story is more than a personal success; it exemplifies Snoonu's ethos of nurturing talent and providing platforms for growth. In a rapidly evolving tech landscape, it's a poignant reminder that at the heart of every innovation are individuals whose journeys inspire and uplift. Source and cover image credit: Press release

Fake doctor from Jharkhand gets 29-month jail term

Rourkela: A local court on Monday sentenced a fake doctor to 29 months of rigorous imprisonment for impersonating a qualified medical practitioner and cheating using forged documents. Pradmanavan Mukhi Karwa (54), a Class XII pass-out from Jharkhand, was working at the Rourkela Govt Hospital (RGH) dialysis centre under the false identity of Dr Ramesh Chandra Jha. The convict had secured the position through a Chandigarh-based outsourcing firm, Rahi Care Dialysis. The fraud came to light when Karwa applied for a personal loan of Rs 16.53 lakh from a private non-banking financial firm. During document verification, it was discovered that he had submitted Jha's certificates with his own photograph. Following a complaint filed by the finance company on June 26, 2024, Raghunathpalli police arrested Karwa under various sections of the IPC, including forgery and cheating. In a separate case, the outsourcing firm's area manager, Mayur Agarwal, filed a complaint on June 28, revealing that Karwa had been drawing regular salary under the false identity. Public prosecutor Akshaya Kumar Sahoo, who represented the state during the proceedings, said chief judicial magistrate (first class), Sarmista Padhi, pronounced the verdict after examining 14 witnesses. The sentences under different IPC sections will run concurrently. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000, with an additional month's imprisonment in case of non-payment. This isn't Karwa's first offence. He was previously convicted for a similar fraud at Nuagaon PHC, where he worked from 2016 to 2019. In April 2022, he was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by JMFC, Sundargarh.

Oman's local content drive fuels institutional growth

MUSCAT, FEB 15 The Sultanate of Oman has placed significant emphasis on local content to drive the growth of Omani companies, aligning with Oman Vision 2040. By enhancing local added value, this initiative strengthens Omani institutions, increases productivity and stimulates the national economy. With incentives and privileges for Omani enterprises, local content plays a crucial role in job creation, Omanisation and boosting economic sectors. A prime example is Karwa Automobiles Company, which has demonstrated remarkable growth, with local purchases exceeding RO 2.5 million since its commercial operations began. In 2024 alone, Karwa awarded contracts worth over RO 1.1 million to 93 local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), reinforcing its commitment to local supply chains and reducing import dependency. Dr Ibrahim bin Ali al Balushi, CEO of Karwa, highlighted the strategic importance of investing in local suppliers, noting that collaboration with Omani institutions strengthens the industrial sector and yields long-term benefits. Oman's Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development has also played a key role in promoting local content through targeted initiatives, resulting in a surge in SMEs securing business opportunities. As of December last year, 145,750 SMEs were registered, with 123 small enterprises scaling up to medium-sized businesses and five medium enterprises expanding into large corporations. To sustain SME growth and maximise local value-added contributions, Oman continues to implement initiatives that bolster the manufacturing sector — a key pillar of Oman Vision 2040. The adoption of a national policy for local content ensures sustainable economic development while empowering the private sector to lead a competitive, resilient economy.
