Rishi Kapoor went into deep depression after this movie flopped at box-office, was admitted to hospital, movie was..., it earned just Rs...

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who delivered numerous superhits at the box office and garnered several awards, was also a talented producer and director who contributed immensely to the film industry. He is still remembered for his powerful performances and iconic Hindi films like Bobby, Agneepath, Mera Naam Joker, and Amar Akbar Anthony , to name a few. Rishi's legacy in Bollywood lives on, even after his passing. On that note, today we will tell you about one of his cult films that turned out to be a mega flop. Rishi Kapoor was unable to cope with the film's failure and was deeply shocked. As a result, his condition worsened, and he had to be admitted to the hospital. We are talking about Karz, Subhash Ghai's reincarnation drama that has gained iconic status over the years. However, at the time of its release, it was a colossal failure. Its failure took a toll on Kapoor, who was hospitalised due to depression. Rishi Kapoor in Karz In an old interview with Mumbai Mirror, Subhash Ghai said, 'We opened with 20% collections. On Sunday, I learnt that Rishi had been admitted to the hospital for depression. He had worked hard on every scene and was so proud of the film, requesting several preview shows for his friends before its release. The no-show came as a shock and I had to get Raj saab (his father Raj Kapoor) to reassure him that we'd made a good film irrespective of its commercial failure'. Over the years, Karz was loved by many and became one of Rishi Kapoor's most memorable films. Made in a production budget of Rs 1.5 crore, the film earned around Rs 3.9 crore at the box office. Though he and Subhash Ghai did not work together again until Kaanchi in 2014, they remained close over the years. Despite having a great director in Subhash Ghai, legendary music composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal, lyrics by Anand Bakshi, a producer like Akhtar Farooqui, and a stellar cast including Rishi Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Tina Munim, and Pran, Karz still failed at the box office. Some of the popular songs from the movie are Dard-E-Dil, Om Shanti Om, Ek Haseena Thi, Tu Kitne Baras Kim to name a few.

Made for Rs 3 crore, this film gave Madhuri Dixit, Dimple Kapadia's careers new heights, script written in only 15 days, became cult classic, earned Rs…, lead actors are…

Often when Bollywood films are being written, directors and writers take a lot of time and effort. One of the biggest reasons for a movie to be a hit is a strong storyline, and this happens when the script is engaging enough. However, what if we tell you that a script was written in just 15 days and while makers had no hope of the movie performing on the big screen, this film became a huge hit? Yes, this may sound mind-boggling, but this is the reality. The movie was a huge hit and featured powerhouses of Bollywood like Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Rakhee Gulzar, and more. If you are wondering which movie we are talking about, it is the blockbuster Ram Lakhan. Released in 1989, and directed by ace director Subhash Ghai, the movie featured Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, and Dimple Kapadia in lead roles. Apart from these faces, the movie features late actor Amrish Puri and Satish Kaushik in key roles. Ghai is known for films such as Karz, Hero, Meri Jung, Karma, Saudagar, Khalnayak, Pardes. According to a report by Times of India, Subhash Ghai accepted that the script of the film was written in just 15 days. He further said that he was looking for those actors who were ready to join immediately. He also mentioned that the music and script of the film were even improvised on the set itself. Jackie, who played the lead role in the film, was initially not the first choice of Subhash Ghai. Yes, you read that correct! Instead of that, it was Sanjay Dutt. However, Subhash's experience with Dutt in Vidhata was not very nice. Hence, the director decided to cast Jackie instead of Sanjay Dutt. In the female casting, it was Madhuri Dixit and Dimple Kapadia. The movie gave a new direction to Madhuri's career. Ram Lakhan became a huge hit. It became the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1989 and is now considered a cult classic. Made for Rs 3 crore, the movie minted Rs 18 crore.

Bollywood's most unlucky film, three movies were made with same title, all were flops, actress' career ended, another went into ‘depression', film title is…

Till now, countless films have been made in Bollywood, which have earned good money at the box office. But do you know about those 3 films, whose names were the same, but their fate at the box office was also the same? We are talking about Karz, on whose name films were made, but all flopped. The first film was made in 1980 by filmmaker Subhash Ghai and was named Karz. Rishi Kapoor, Simi Garewal, and Tina Munim appeared in the lead roles in it. It was a musical thriller, due to which the songs were much talked about. But the film did not do well at the box office. Due to this, the makers had to face losses. But the loss was not limited to this. After this film, Rishi Kapoor suffered from depression, which he struggled with for months. He mentioned this in his autobiography. Rishi Kapoor confessed, 'I lost my patience, sank into a deep depression. I started trembling on the set and fainted. I sat on my chair, went to the makeup room, and asked for water. I felt my confidence was gone. Karz had raised a lot of hopes, I thought it would do wonders for my career. When it did not happen, I was devastated.' After this, in the year 2002, Sunny Deol's Karz: The Burden of Truth was released, which was an action thriller film. Sunil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty were also seen in lead roles in the film. The budget of the film was 11 crores. But the film could earn only 15.57 crores. While the film did not get special reviews. At the same time, it also could not be included in the list of hit films. In 2008, Himesh Reshammiya brought the remake of Karz, which was also named Karz. But one more Z was added to the English name. But this did not prevent the film from being a flop. After this, actress Urmila Matondkar's career ended. At the same time, she was seen in only a few films, which could not do wonders at the box office.

‘Irrfan ko samjhao, usse acting nahi aati': What Rishi Kapoor said about his D-Day co-star to director Nikkhil Advani

Everyone who ever worked with Irrfan Khan will share stories about his skill as an actor and how he owned every frame, but the late actor Rishi Kapoor didn't agree with all this praise at one point. Rishi was reportedly not satisfied with Irrfan's style of acting while working with him in the crime thriller D-Day (2013), and he was quite vocal about this with the director Nikkhil Advani. While Irrfan passed away on April 29, 2020, Rishi Kapoor died a day after on Aprilo 30. Advani revealed in a conversation with film critic Rajeev Masand that Rishi Kapoor had very different expectations from Irrfan and was not used to his way of working. 'When they came together, Rishi Kapoor had heard that Irrfan Khan was this great actor. So he wanted to see it, and fortunately for me, they were doing this one scene where Irrfan decided to improvise. And Irrfan never ever gives the same cue again. So Rishi Kapoor called me and said, 'Usko samjhao, usko acting nahi aati hai (Talk to him, he doesn't know acting).' The director talked about how Irrfan used to finish each take in a different way, and hence the Karz actor could not identify his cue to start speaking. 'I told him, 'Sir, you don't have to worry. You start speaking whenever you want to speak; don't worry about him.'' He also added that even though both the actors were very different, his experience working with them was special. According to Advani, Irrfan and Rishi Kapoor reconciled when the former convinced him to stay the night in the desert with the promise of 'chicken and alcohol'. In a conversation with Mid-Day, he revealed that Rishi Kapoor used to travel back and forth from the hotel every day, and the film required a sunrise shot, for which the veteran actor would have to start very early. 'He was refusing to comply with a morning shoot, but Irrfan managed to convince him to spend the night in the desert with us with the promise of Chicken Jungli and alcohol. It was a near-impossible feat in Kutch, but he delivered his promise, and I got my shot.' Apart from the two stalwarts, D-Day also featured Shruti Haasan, Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Nassar and K.K. Raina. Irrfan Khan played a RAW agent in the film, while Rishi Kapoor played the role of a don. Both actors passed away in 2020 due to cancer.
