"Naming of 'Operation Sindoor' has increased India's respect for women": Punjab Governor Kataria
Jodhpur (Rajasthan) [India], June 4 (ANI): Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday said the naming of 'Operation Sindoor' has increased respect for women and called it a 'good fortune' for the nation. Addressing the mediapersons at Jodhpur Circuit House, Governor Kataria said, 'The naming of 'Operation Sindoor' has increased India's respect for women. This was the good fortune of our country. Lanka was burnt, and it happened to honour a woman. The Kurukshetra war was fought by Pandavas and Kauravas, that too, to honour a woman.' On the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, Kataria added, 'The way the May 22 incident happened... the people demanded that the terrorists pay a hefty price. The Prime Minister Modi said that he would do what they would never have imagined, and with the wisdom with which he prepared, he cleared all their locations in one swoop and killed hundreds of terrorists.' Governor praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for giving a free hand to the Indian Army. Regarding the people who support the 'enemies' while living in India, he said that it is the misfortune of this country that Jaichands are born here. He added that the country never lost due to its bravery, but had to face ups and downs due to internal enemies. India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Indian armed forces responded effectively to subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. The two countries then reached an understanding to stop military action following a call made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart. (ANI)

Ex-Haryana minister Sukhbir Kataria and his sister face FIR over ‘illegal' EWS grants
GURGAON: A local court on Monday directed police to register an FIR against former minister Sukhbir Kataria, and seven others, among them his sister, for allegedly receiving govt grants they were not entitled to during his tenure. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The police had earlier given Kataria a clean chit and filed an action taken report, but the court ignored that, ordering that "the case shall be investigated as per law". It sought a compliance report from police by July 7. Hearing a petition from Om Parkash, a Gurgaon resident, additional chief judicial magistrate Manish Kumar ordered the SHO of Sector 5 police station to involve sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 405 (criminal breach of trust), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servants), 420 (cheating) of IPC and applicable provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Kataria, a former Congress MLA from Gurgaon who was in the ministry in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress govt (2009-14). While the court order did not mention what the grants were, the petitioner told TOI these were funds meant to be used for construction or repair of houses for economically weaker sections (EWS) but instead went to his sister and a relative who allegedly claimed they needed money for repair of their houses. The petitioner argued that Kataria misused his powers to grant aid to his sister Ishvanti Devi, who was not entitled to an EWS fund. Kamlesh allegedly received two grants of Rs 3.8 lakh from the minister on the ground that she required money for repair of her house, purchasing medicines, clothes, etc. The others who are to be named in the FIR are Rakesh alias Gaurav, Ishvanti's cousin Manish, Kamlesh, Jai Parkash, Surender Singh and Brahmo Devi. Though the police had concluded after an investigation that Kataria could not be accused of any such offence, the court observed that allegations of misuse of govt grants were credible in nature and a thorough and impartial probe was necessary. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Grant of funds by Sukhbir Kataria, being a minister in the Haryana govt, to his real sister, who appears to be a wealthy woman, prima facie amounts to misuse of the discretionary grant, which was meant to be distributed among poor persons. Similarly, the release of the grant to the remaining accused also prima facie appears to be illegal and discloses the commission of offences under sections 403, 405, 409, 420 IPC and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act," the observed in its order. Questioning the ATR submitted by police, the court stated it was of the view that the report was not prepared in an independent and impartial manner. "Thus, this report prepared by the police has to be ignored," it said. Kataria was earlier accused of encroaching on govt land along old Delhi-Gurgaon road for running commercial establishments. He also faces charges for registering fake voters in the Gurgaon constituency in 2009.
