DMK's general council meeting dynastic drama, diversion tactic: Union Minister Murugan
Chennai: Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan launched a scathing attack on the DMK following its general council meeting in Madurai, accusing the party of engaging in dynastic theatrics and diversionary tactics to mask its failures. Calling the meeting a 'coronation event', Murugan alleged that the DMK had convened it primarily to reaffirm that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's son would inherit party leadership. The DMK held its general council meeting on Sunday, where it adopted 27 resolutions. 'It was a political drama to promote the 'prince' and pacify second-tier leaders who act like local feudal lords,' he said. The minister condemned the resolutions passed by the DMK, especially those criticising the Central government, calling them attempts to distract the public from the state government's poor performance and deep-rooted corruption. 'This is classic boogeyman politics -- when there's nothing real to show, invent an enemy,' he said. He accused the DMK of lacking moral standing to speak on caste-based census, education policy, or federalism. 'What did they do when they were part of the UPA government? Nothing. Today, they raise hollow slogans while clinging to Congress, the very party that removed education from the state list,' he added. Murugan also dismissed the DMK's rhetoric on issues like the Waqf Act, Hindi imposition, and Katchatheevu, saying the party was using these topics to deflect attention from corruption investigations. 'If you're innocent, why fear probes by the ED or IT? The law will take its course,' he said. He questioned the credibility of the resolution to declare Karunanidhi's birthday as Classical Tamil Day, arguing it reduced Tamil pride to a family legacy. 'To the DMK, Tamil Nadu is Karunanidhi Nadu,' he remarked. Slamming the party for selective outrage, Murugan noted the DMK's silence on sexual abuse cases in state institutions was selective. He concluded with a strong political message: 'The people of Tamil Nadu are ready for change. In 2026, the AIADMK-BJP alliance will secure a historic victory and end this era of corrupt, dynastic rule.'

CM Stalin inaugurates India's first exclusive Tuna fishing harbour in Chennai
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday reiterated his party's demand on retrieving Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka to put an end to the ordeals faced by Tamil Nadu fishermen. He said this after inaugurating an exclusive fishing harbour for Tuna fishing constructed at a cost of Rs 272.70 crore at Tiruvottiyur here. A release said this is the first such exclusive harbour for Tuna fishing in the country. The facilities available will help fishermen returning with tuna from deep sea to swiftly sell the catch to exporters without impacting the quality. It said around 6,250 people involved in fishing and related jobs in 12 fishing villages will benefit from the fishing harbour, which has the capacity to handle 70,000 tonnes of fish every year. He also inaugurated 12 other projects completed by the fisheries department across the state through video conference. These projects were implemented at a total cost of Rs 426.13 crore.

MK Stalin says retrieving Katchatheevu key to ending Tamil Nadu fishermen arrests
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday retrieved that retrieving Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka is the only lasting solution to protect the traditional rights of Tamil Nadu fishermen and end their the past four years alone, 1,083 Indian fishermen have been arrested, and 185 boats seized by the Sri Lankan Navy, Stalin said.'I've written 77 letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar urging their release,' he added, noting that DMK MPs and alliance members have raised the issue repeatedly in 'That is why 1354 fishermen were released while actions are still being taken to get the rest 23 released. 229 fishing boats that were seized by the Lankan Navy since 2018 have not been released', said MK his government's compensation efforts, the Chief Minister announced that financial aid for seized boats has been increased. Trolley boat owners will now receive Rs 8 lakh (up from Rs 5 lakh) and country boat owners Rs 2 lakh. For 2024-25, compensation has been paid to 73 seized trolley boats and 9 country boats. The daily stipend for the families of fishermen arrested or missing at sea has also been doubled from Rs 250 to Rs 500, he April 2, the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a special resolution calling for the retrieval of Katchatheevu. 'We are taking all necessary steps to protect our fishermen's traditional fishing rights,' Stalin said. Dhinakaran criticises DMK govt. for not fulfilling poll promises
Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Tuesday contended that the 'singular achievement' of the DMK government, which had completed four years in office, was to rake up issues, such as delimitation and Katchatheevu, with a view to deflect the 'dissatisfaction' of the public with the government's performance. In a statement, he listed some of the promises made by the ruling DMK during the 2021 Assembly poll that, according to him, had remained unfulfilled. Among these were the exemption from the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test, restoration of the Old Pension Scheme for government staff, and filling of vacancies in the government to tune of 3.5 lakh. In a post on his social media handle, Mr. Dhinakaran assailed the functioning of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation for having stopped the procurement of paddy from on-Cauvery delta districts in the State. He also criticised it for not having released ₹250 crore to the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) for paddy procurement, as it was farmers who had been eventually affected. He sought the intervention of the State government in this regard.
