Kate Gosselin reveals 'sickening' reason behind her return to nursing career

Kate Gosselin is revealing why she returned to her nursing career after leaving reality TV behind. The former "Jon & Kate Plus 8" star posted a TikTok video on Monday, Aug. 11, about her 12-hour day as a home health care nurse and took to the comments to respond to a fan who asked about her career change. "Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS," Gosselin replied. She continued: "Sickening but I was drug into court constantly and that costs A TON. Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren't for lawyers :(. It's okay. I'm helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping!" She shared in another comment: "Raised and supported 8 kids alone and now they have enough college money to go to college and beyond! I achieved my goal but have no personal retirement 😢" Gosselin launched a TikTok last month, sharing details about her life from her love of dogs to an inside look at her hair appointment. Collin Gosselin talks growing up on 'Jon & Kate Plus 8': 'We didn't get the choice' Gosselin and ex-husband Jon Gosselin catapulted to superstardom from 2007 to 2009 on their TLC show "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which documented the family of 10's complicated interpersonal dynamics in Pennsylvania. Then, after the Gosselins' bitter 2009 split, TLC relaunched the show featuring the nurse moving on solo from 2015 to 2017 on "Kate Plus 8." In addition to "Plus 8," Gosselin has starred on "Dancing with the Stars," "Celebrity Wife Swap," "Celebrity Apprentice" and most recently appeared on Fox's military training competition series, "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test", in 2023, although she was the first celebrity to leave. Kate and Jon Gosselin's children are 24-year-old twins Cara and Mady, and 21-year-old sextuplets: Aeden, Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel and Leah. Kate Gosselin is estranged from Collin and Hannah while Jon Gosselin is estranged from the remaining children. Collin has spoken out in recent years about his mom having him "institutionalized" and sending him to a care facility. Gosselin slammed her son's claims in a 2023 Instagram post, writing in a lengthy note that he had "mental health issues" and exhibited "violent tendencies" toward her and his siblings in the past. Kate Gosselin works grueling 12-hour nursing shifts after reality TV fortune disappears

Kate Gosselin is speaking out about her life now, which includes 12-hour days as a pediatric nurse. "Today was a busy day, it was another 12-hour day, and my patient and I did a bunch of things," Kate told her followers on TikTok this week. "We went on the swings together, we went to a birthday party, we played in the water, we spent a lot of time outside. My patient loves to spend time outside, and I, of course, did all of the medical care as well, feeding, bathing and all the things." She added, "And so now I work again tomorrow morning, so I have my dishes loaded into the dishwasher, my dishwasher running, and so I can go to bed and get up early and do it all over again," she continued. While several people praised her work ethic in the comments, one fan asked her what happened to all the income she earned working on the show. "Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS. Sickening but I was drug into court constantly and that costs A TON," she said in her response. "Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren't for lawyers. It's okay. I'm helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping!" The former reality star first gained national attention when she appeared on the hit TLC reality show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which chronicled how she and her then-husband, Jon Gosselin, managed their eight children, which included one set of twins and one set of sextuplets. The show was on the air from 2007 to 2009, before the couple's divorce in 2009 brought it to an end. Kate then starred in the show's spin-off, "Kate Plus 8," which showed what her life was like as a single mother. One fan in the comments section pointed out that the life she lives now seems much different than what her life was like on the show, and asked if she misses anything from her time on the show. "I miss our house in Pa. But mainly, I miss when the kids were little. Not the stress, just their cuteness. At the time it felt like the days were long…but in hindsight it sped by. And I'm sad :(," she wrote in her response. At the time their divorce was finalized, Kate was awarded sole physical custody of all eight of the couple's children. It was later revealed that one of the sextuplets, Hannah, lived with Jon, but that he had little to no contact with his other children. In 2018, Jon was awarded temporary custody of another one of the sextuplets, Collin, after he was allegedly diagnosed with a behavioral disorder and sent away by Kate to a separate school at the age of 12. She sent him to live at the Fairmount Behavioral Health System, a psychiatric hospital located in Philadelphia. In September 2024, Collin accused his mother of being "physically aggressive and verbally very abusive," during an interview with The Sun. "My mother had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement," he said. "She had a room put up with cameras in it, a tiny window in the corner and it was bolt-locked from the outside. It was like a containment room, and it had a mattress on the floor and that's how I lived." Following the interview, Kate's lawyer, Richard Puelo, told Fox News Digital, "She never wants to comment because she always knows that this gets taken out of context. She doesn't want to comment. Doesn't need to. The record speaks for itself." He added, "The facts belie the truth. Whatever took place, the ones that are truthful are the ones that took place… She has no comment because it's not going to change the past. And I don't believe she intentionally harmed any of her children in any way, shape or form." More recently, Collin shared an old family photo on TikTok featuring him and his siblings, writing an emotional caption about their fractured relationship, stating "Born to be a team, us against the world. Forced to do it alone, and wonder every day what our lives could've looked like." "Forced apart, pitted against each other. All the fame and money in the world, but what about kids being kids?" he wrote. "I will always love them more than anything. The tears I shed behind closed doors, thinking about the memories we could've shared. I love you guys."

Kate Gosselin, 50, reveals she has gone BACK to her $30 an hour job... after spending her fortune on lawyers

Kate Gosselin has given the real reason why she is working 12-hour shifts following her reality TV stint. The 50-year-old TV personality - who gained recognition for appearing in the TLC series Jon & Kate Plus 8 - got candid with fans about her financial situation after uploading a TikTok video on Monday. Kate was previously married to Jon Gosselin from 1999 until their divorce in 2009. They share eight children: twins Cara and Madelyn, 24, and sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Joel, Aaden, Alexis and Leah, all 21. The star's time on TLC came to an end when Kate Plus 8 aired its final episode in 2011. In the clip, Kate could be seen doing dishes after working a long shift as a nurse in the pediatric field which earns about $30 an hour in most states. She later jumped to the comment section to respond to questions from fans. When one said they thought she would be 'set for life' after the TLC show, Kate replied, 'I wish. I spent sooooooo much money on attorneys. That killed us! :( so sad!' The media personality appeared to be referencing to her divorce from Jon which was finalized in December 2009. Her request for primary custody of their eight children was granted and she also gained ownership of their family home. But Jon later got sole custody of Collin and his sister Hannah back in 2018. Another follower asked Kate 'what happened with all the income from the show' while referencing to the star's long shifts. 'Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS,' she explained. 'Sickening but I was drug into court constantly and that costs A TON. Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren't for the lawyers :(.' However, Kate told the fan that it was 'okay' while adding that she is 'helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping!' The TV personality also gave insight into her job as a nurse and stated that she works in 'pediatric home health care.' 'Honestly? Kate replied with, '28 years. Wow. That made me feel super old to type that number.' She also revealed that some of her children will live with her at home in between semesters at college. In regards to what the mom-of-eight misses about her time on reality TV, Kate expressed, 'I miss our house in Pa. 'But mainly I miss when the kids were little. Not the stress, just their cuteness. At the time it felt like the days were long... but in hindsight it sped by. And I'm sad :(.' Late last year in October, a source claimed that Kate was 'hurting for money' and 'still trying to get a new show.' Kate officially launched her TikTok account last month in July and has since amassed around 184K followers. Her son Collin also recently joined the social media platform and made a heartbreaking claim last week as he reached out to his estranged siblings through an emotional message. The college student alleged in a post that he and his siblings were 'forced apart' and 'pitted against each other.' The college student alleged in a post that he and his siblings were 'forced apart' and 'pitted against each other; Collin seen above Collin included a throwback photo of himself with his brothers and sisters while adding the text, 'Born to be a team, us against the world...' A second slide showed the Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum in the driver's seat of a car and he wrote, 'Forced to do it alone, and wonder everyday what our lives could've looked like.' In the caption of the post, Collin also claimed, 'Forced apart, pitted against each other. All the fame and money in the world, but what about kids being kids? 'I will always love them more than anything. The tears I shed behind closed doors, thinking about the memories we could've shared. I love you guys...' Daily Mail has reached out to both Kate and Jon's reps for comment. Collin has notably been estranged from his mother Kate as well as most of his siblings for many years. However, he is close to his father Jon - who got sole custody of Collin and his sister Hannah back in 2018. One TikTok user questioned if Collin still has a close relationship with his sister Hannah, to which he replied, 'Yes I just her today! 'She was worried her car wouldn't pass inspection so I was looking at it for her. She's so funny and I love her sm. It makes my day whenever I see her, but we're both so busy with work, school etc.' Another typed, 'if you choose to have kids one day and be involved, you'll understand your mother more.' Collin responded to the fan by claiming that he suffered both 'physical and emotional abuse' by his mother 'while having to be an animal in her circus on tv.' He added, 'Being locked up, isolated, zip tied. Being sent away because I didn't fit into an equation. 'Having one visit from her after being completely cut off with no contact at 12 years old, in which the whole visit was her telling me how I deserved the situation I was in because I "destroyed our family." Yeah I'm sorry, but I will never "understand" that. I will break the cycle that she couldn't.' Last year in September, Collin claimed that his mother Kate 'zip-tied his arms and legs and locked him in basement as a child' during an interview with The U.S. Sun. And back in 2023 on Vice TV's Dark Side of the 2000s, he talked about being sent away at the age of 12 to an institution, and alleged that his mother, Kate, did so to prevent him from discussing how he was being treated at home. He also claimed last year that he was 'discharged' from the Marines due to Kate sending him to the behavioral institution in 2016. On TikTok, Collin also confirmed that he is in the process of writing a book, which he called 'an exciting opportunity.' Earlier this year in March, Collin announced his new career venture and revealed he established a power-washing company in Pennsylvania, which he has 'officially filed as an LLC.' The new career path came less than a year after he announced his discharge from the Marines, for which he blamed on his estranged mother Kate for sending him to a behavioral institution in 2016 when he was just 12.

From TLC to TikTok, Kate Gosselin appears to be entering her 'dog mom era'

"There's going to be a lot of dogs on it and kids, but mostly dogs and me," Gosselin said in one of her videos. Kate Gosselin has made her way to TikTok. The 50-year-old reality star, known for her TLC series "Jon & Kate Plus 8," appeared to post her first video to TikTok on July 13. The TikTok account has about 109,000 followers, as of Aug. 7, but remains unverified, which has confused some fans about its legitimacy. Gosselin posted a video on July 28 to clarify that the account is real and she is awaiting verification from TikTok. "There's going to be a lot of dogs on it and kids, but mostly dogs and me," Gosselin said in the video, which had more than 2.6 million views, as of Aug. 7. "I'm in my German Shepherd dog mom era. Is that how they say it? You know what I mean." The bulk of videos on the account feature one, or both, of Gosselin's German shepherds, Nanuq and Meika. Gosselin has also posted throwback photos of her children from their TLC days and clips giving a peek into her everyday life, like her morning routine and how she makes her protein shakes. USA TODAY was unable to get in contact with Gosselin's representatives for comment. What is the internet saying? TikTok users appear divided on Gosselin posting on the platform. Some old fans of the TLC series are excited to see her back on screen. "Nostalgia has officially hit my feed this week, and I am here for it! Excited to follow along Kate," a TikTok user commented on one of Gosselin's videos. Some, on the other hand, have mentioned the allegations that Gosselin's son, Collin Gosselin, brought against his mother last year. In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun last year, Collin alleged that his mother was "physically aggressive" and "verbally very abusive" toward him as a child. He also claimed that his mother would zip-tie him and lock him inside a room in the family's basement for days at a time. Collin's father, Jon Gosselin, backed up these claims. Jon and Kate divorced in 2009. In an Instagram statement made last year, Kate said that after "multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years," Collin had been admitted to a facility for the family's safety. "Does it not hurt you to post (Collin) knowing you don't talk to him?" one TikTok user commented, noting a desire for the two to reconcile. "I know you say there is more to the story, but I can't imagine what it is to make you completely cut a child off for good. Even a few words over the phone goes a long way." Richard Puleo, a lawyer who represented Kate, told The Sun she never did anything to "intentionally harm" Collin and did "whatever she did to protect herself and her family from some of his troubled behavior as a child." What has Kate Gosselin been up to since TLC? "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which later became "Kate Plus 8" after the divorce, aired for 11 seasons, concluding in 2017. In 2019, TLC aired a single season of "Kate Plus Date," a reality series in which Kate gets help from professional matchmakers to go on dates with 10 bachelors. How old are the Gosselin children now? As of Aug. 7, Madelyn "Mady" and Cara Gosselin, Kate's eldest daughters, are 24 years old and the sextuplets, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel, are 21. Their father claimed in a 2023 interview that he hadn't heard from his eldest daughters 'in over a decade' and hadn't spoken to Joel, Aaden, Leah and Alexis for five years.
