Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt Hired a Stepparenting Coach and We Love Her Honesty

The New York Times bestselling author and her husband, actor Chris Pratt, opened up about being in a blended family. Fact checked by Sarah Scott Actor Chris Pratt and his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt have been open about the joys and challenges of parenting, including diaper blowouts that most parents will relate to. Now they got real about parenting in a blended family and it's much-needed honesty. Pratt shares 12-year-old son, Jack, with his ex-wife, actress Anna Faris, and has three children with Schwarzenegger Pratt—Lyla Maria, 4, Eloise Christina, 3, and Ford Fitzgerald, 8 months old. While appearing on the Parenting & You with Dr. Shefali podcast on July 15, 2025, Pratt and Schwarzenegger Pratt discussed their roles as parents and the unique experiences they've had with mothering and fathering. Schwarzenegger Pratt, a New York Times bestselling author, opened up about hiring a stepparenting coach when her relationship with Pratt became serious. "I got that right when we got engaged," she said. "It's been incredibly helpful for me and also just in understanding my role as a stepparent." She went on to highlight the challenges and responsibilities that come with raising a stepchild. "Stepparenting, like parenting, has no handbook," she shared. "Stepparenting is extra confusing because you aren't a parent, you're not a nanny, you're not an assistant. You have responsibilities in all of those areas, but you're not either of them." Schwarzenegger Pratt's thoughtful and vulnerable reflections on parenting demonstrate a commitment to being the best supporter and mentor she can be for her children. But it also importantly highlights blended families which about 16% of kids in the U.S. are a part of, according to data from the Pew Research Center. Pratt seems to recognize the care and effort his partner is putting into their family. 'If a parent is in there doing the hard work of creating structure for a child and holding children accountable, and it's not a biological child, it can feel thankless," he said. "But it's a really, really important job." On Mother's Day in 2025, Pratt also shared a touching post honoring his wife on Instagram. "How do moms do it?" Pratt wrote. "Seriously. It's like running a circus, a hospital, and a five-star kitchen all at once. Our kids hit the jackpot with you, and so did I. We love you. Happy Mother's Day, Chief!"
